Same problem here. I'm using two monitors. The smaller of the two has the menu bar on its left edge. It's starting to drive me a bit crazy, as it obscures a valuable part of the screen. Maybe it's possible to hide the menu bar manually? I think Firefox might have something to do with the problem, as it seems that when I close it, the menu bar / launcher auto-hides. I'm running Firefox 5.0. Hi I'm still getting this error on a regular basis - especially when I plug or unplug the power (and the power states change). It generally leads to a system freeze and I loose work. I'm currently running Jaunty with 2.6.30-020630-generic. I'm experiencing the same problem. If I enter... /set gui_tray_flags 1 .. within xchat, closing the xchat windows will make the app minimise to the tray; however this isn't remembered. I did the same - and haven't had the freeze since, but I hadn't equated the two actions. To get the hidden menu put the num-lock(fn+f11) and scroll-lock(fn+f12) on while your in the BIOS, and then scroll to the side. A secret menu labelled 'intel' will appear. I've found that the problem occurs when I have a panel located on the left-side of my gnome viewport. After moving the panel back to it's initial location at the bottom of the screen, the problem cleared up. More info about the problem: Seems to be related to the left half of the screen... panel widgets which exist in the right hand of the screen are still accessible. However no panel widget can be removed or moved. I can trigger the problem by launching an application or accessing a dialog from one of the installed widgets. Sorry, haven't produced a backtrace yet; because the gnome-panel application is automatically respawned I can't launch it using gdb... do you have any advice on this? I read the wiki - it doesn't mention a 'stacktrace' .. only a backtrace. As I mentioned earlier, I can't use gdb to run gnome-panel (to produce a backtrace) because the program is restarted automatically as soon as I kill it. What do you suggest?
