[Bug 777599] Re: Unity menu bar isn't hide when window is maximized

2011-07-04 Thread Luke Whitmore
Same problem here.

I'm using two monitors. The smaller of the two has the menu bar on its
left edge.

It's starting to drive me a bit crazy, as it obscures a valuable part of
the screen. Maybe it's possible to hide the menu bar manually? If not
- perhaps this would be a good feature?

[Bug 777599] Re: Unity menu bar isn't hide when window is maximized

2011-07-04 Thread Luke Whitmore
I think Firefox might have something to do with the problem, as it seems
that when I close it, the menu bar / launcher auto-hides.

I'm running Firefox 5.0.

Can anyone confirm this?

[Bug 340014] Re: Samsung NC10 fails suspend/Resume tests

2009-07-14 Thread Luke Whitmore
Hi

I'm still getting this error on a regular basis - especially when I
plug or unplug the power (and the power states change). It generally
leads to a system freeze and I loose work.

I'm currently running Jaunty with 2.6.30-020630-generic.

Is there anything I could do to prevent this error from occurring while
a fix is being developed?

[Bug 137688] Re: xchat doesn't remember minimize to tray setting

2009-04-20 Thread Luke Whitmore
I think I've found a permanent fix;

open ~/.xchat2/xchat.conf for editing
replace 'gui_tray_flags = 0' with 'gui_tray_flags = 1'

[Bug 137688] Re: xchat doesn't remember minimize to tray setting

2009-04-20 Thread Luke Whitmore
I'm experiencing the same problem. If I enter...

 /set gui_tray_flags 1

.. within xchat, closing the xchat windows will make the app minimise to
the tray; however this isn't remembered.

I'm using XChat 2.8.6 from the Jaunty repos.

Re: [Bug 344183] Re: [SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. NC10] suspend/resume failure

2009-04-15 Thread Luke Whitmore
I did the same - and haven't had the freeze since, but I hadn't equated the
two actions.

To get the hidden menu put the num-lock(fn+f11) and scroll-lock(fn+f12) on
while your in the BIOS, and then scroll to the side. A secret menu labelled
'intel' will appear.

th...@ginkel.comwrote:

I investigated this issue on my machine and somehow it seems that it can
be worked around (at least it worked for me the workaround suppressed
the error so far) using a hidden BIOS setting by changing the SATA mode
from Compatible to Enhanced. I posted some details on how to
 activate it at:
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/340014/comments/7

Disclaimer: This is an undocumented setting, use it at your own risk!

Do not enable AHCI, this will prevent GRUB from loading.

Re: [Bug 355915] Re: Gnome-panel hangs

2009-04-14 Thread Luke Whitmore
I've found that the problem occurs when I have a panel located on the
left-side of my gnome viewport.

After moving the panel back to it's initial location at the bottom of the
screen, the problem cleared up.

I ctrl+c in gdb but this exits from the gdb interface. It then seems

Could this be because a subcomponent of the gnome-panel system is hanging

2009-04-07 Thread Luke Whitmore
More info about the problem:

Seems to be related to the left half of the screen... panel widgets which
exist in the right hand of the screen are still accessible.

However no panel widget can be removed or moved.

I can trigger the problem by launching an application or accessing a dialog
from one of the installed widgets.

Sorry, haven't produced a backtrace yet; because the gnome-panel application
is automatically respawned I can't launch it using gdb... do you have any
advice on this?

2009-04-07 Thread Luke Whitmore
I read the wiki - it doesn't mention a 'stacktrace' .. only a backtrace. As
I mentioned earlier, I can't use gdb to run gnome-panel (to produce a
backtrace) because the program is restarted automatically as soon as I kill
it.

What do you suggest?

(Sorry, producing debugging logs is new to me.. might be to provide more
explanation)

Re: [Bug 355915] Re: Gnome-panel hangs

2009-04-07 Thread Luke Whitmore
From https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace:

I carried out the instructions under the 'already running programs'
sections.

I get to point 5.

The program will continue running. Perform any actions necessary to
reproduce the crash. If the program hangs but doesn't crash you can press
ctrl+c in gdb while the program is frozen and then continue with the next
step.

I ctrl+c in gdb but this exits from the gdb interface. It then seems
impossible to continue with the instructions listed.

Could this be because a subcomponent of the gnome-panel system is hanging
rather than the actual gnome-panel application? If this is the case, how
should I proceed?

thx

luke

would be interesting to know what is not clear there,
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash has Now you make a
Backtrace. which leads to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace which has
detailed explanation on how to get a backtrace of already running
software, did you try to do what is detailed there? what issue do you
 get?

[Bug 344183] Re: [SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. NC10] suspend/resume failure

2009-04-06 Thread Luke Whitmore
Same problem here. Brand new NC10 - I've been going to suspend
manually, but this time shut lid. On resume, I ended up with an ATA
problem and had to force a shutdown.

[Bug 202873] Re: alacarte crashed with IOError in on_edit_properties_activate()

2009-04-05 Thread Luke Whitmore
Crashed after trying to edit the menu in jaunty beta.

I've been having problems with quite a few apps which run using python
2.6 - I saw in the crash report that this version of python was
involved.
