[Bug 1930754] Re: e1000e extremly slow

2021-08-02 Thread Sebastian Luna-Valero
Hi Yuan-Chen

I tried:

"echo on | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/devices/\:00\:16.0/power/control"

I also tried unloading mei* kernel modules.

However it didn't solve the isssue.

Here is the requested info:

But it didn't help.

I am currently using the wireless adapter until a find a solution.
Sadly, the only solution provided by technical support was to re-install
Ubuntu, which I will do when I find free time.

Many thanks,
Sebastian

[Bug 1930754] Re: e1000e extremly slow

2021-07-15 Thread Sebastian Luna-Valero
Thanks All for your great help. I am also affected by this issue with my
Dell 5420 equipped with a I219-LM card (just arrived home yesterday).

I came across the AskUbuntu thread from Dell Community forums:
https://www.dell.com/community/Latitude/Dell-latitude-5420-5520-intel-ethernet-on-ubuntu-20-04/m-p/7889980

After the "sudo ethtool -C rx-usecs 6000" command I keep seeing
rx_errors and rx_crc_errors with:

sudo ethtool -S | grep -i err

Do you know why?

Many thanks,
Sebastian

[Bug 1931773] [NEW] ubiquity-frontend-kde: the secure boot configurations are not in the disabled state when "installing third-party drivers" is unselected

2021-06-12 Thread Luna
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Enable secure boot;
2. Open ubiquity kde_ui and go to next screen after the keyboard one.

Observed behavior:
The third-party drivers checkbox is unselected and the secure boot
configuration is not disabled like in ubiquity-frontend-gtk, suggesting that
secure boot should be configured even if the third-party drivers option is
disabled. I tested here and configured the secure boot without checking the
drivers option and ubiquity didn't show any warning.

[Bug 1930122] [NEW] When installing Kubuntu, the password inputs don't appear when choosing "physical volume for encryption"

2021-05-29 Thread Luna

Summary:

  grub version: 2.04

** Description changed:

+ When using full disk encryption, there are some problems in the
+ decryption screen:
+
  1. If you press enter (accidentally or not) while typing the password
and start typing again, GRUB will "leak" your password in the screen
while entering GRUB rescue. While decryption is in progress, keyboard
should not register anything aside from keyboard shortcuts.

  2. Why just one incorrect attempt makes the GRUB enter in rescue mode?
  Three attempts is a standard.

  3. There is no message indicating that decrypting is in progress. You if
don't press enter correctly, you won't know if the decryption started or
not. This affects directly problem 1.

  4. Password characters doesn't appear in the screen as asterisks while
you typing. This is very useful to check if the system registered two
  characters instead of one.

  5. Backspace doesn't work.

  6. There isn't a blinking underscore to show if the PC is frozen or not.

[Bug 1915598] Re: Use calamares as kubuntu installer

2021-05-20 Thread Luna
Calamares doesn't have an option to leave /boot unencrypted (the way
Kubuntu/Ubiquity does currently), which causes some problems:

https://github.com/calamares/calamares/issues/1311#issue-556802034
https://github.com/calamares/calamares/issues/1311#issuecomment-834167109

An option will be add and the pull request is yet to be made. I think
the switch should happen only after the implementation of this option.

[Bug 1926909] [NEW] When decrypting the disk, every keystroke is registered as a character of the password. Even with backspace this happens

2021-05-02 Thread Luna
Public bug reported:

Even Control + Alt + Del doesn't work, the Control is registered as a
character of the password just like backspace. It seems that this can be
triggered by pressing the Fx keys to get the text-based decryption
screen and then going back to the GUI decryption screen. I tested here
in a VM and if I press F1, the text-based screen ppears; if I press F2,
the GUI appears, the F3, the text-based and so on). The only way to
workaround this issue is force rebooting the computer using the physical
button.

[Bug 1926563] [NEW] Include an option to encrypt /boot

2021-04-28 Thread Luna
Public bug reported:

Currently, Ubiquity doesn't have an option to encrypt /boot, which
enhances security (some distros have this by default like KDE Neon and
Manjaro). Encrypting /boot can be done with the command line, though, by
creating the partitions scheme and setting up LVM. However, having this
option in Ubiquity would be handy.

Same issue here. Two machines upgraded to Focal. unison version is
2.48.4 on both machines. Yet I get the error message as in the bug
description. For recompiling the packages I need some advice how to do
that.

[Bug 1789244] Re: Sound driver does not appear to show [Intel HDMI/DP LPE Audio]

2019-12-28 Thread Luna Shirogane
Hello,

I also have the Thomson NEO10 netbook (Atom-z8350) and struggled to find
a Linux where sound would work, after getting everything to work fairly
well. I eventually found that sound works in Ubuntu 19.10 with Kernel
5.3, anything lower (19.04, Mint 19.3) had the issue. It seems kernel
5.3 has made some enhancements to sound compatibility. :D

With only 2gb ram and running live, Ubuntu would freeze after about 5
minutes though so I ended up using Lubuntu 19.10 instead, which can
still freeze if you have too many firefox windows open but is much more
manageable. Neither detected my linux-swap partition automatically
though so you might want to set that up somehow or make a swapfile
either way (or not run the iso live like I'm doing) if you have the 2gb
ram version of the NEO10.
