[Bug 1512434] Re: Removing package libxslt1.1 causes unexpected behaviour

2016-11-03 Thread Lupius
Have you even read the list of packages it's trying to remove? You just
suggested that the entire Ubuntu GUI core depends on a non-essential
libxslt package.

Not to mention the huge list of extra packages to be installed for
removing a single package.

[Bug 1446435] [NEW] Timed wallpaper does not respect local timezone or configured start time

2015-04-20 Thread Lupius
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Trusty came with the two timed wallpaper configurations by default:
/usr/share/backgrounds/contest/trusty.xml
/usr/share/themes/Adwaita/backgrounds/adwaita-timed.xml

I've been experimenting with them and found the following issues:
1. Modifying the starttime values havs no effect on the wallpaper schedule.
2. Similarly, modifying the system time zone has no effect on the schedule.
3. As a result, the wallpaper schedule always begins at midnight GMT.

[Bug 1379630] [NEW] libgl1-mesa-dri in Ubuntu 14.04 causes Cinnamon to launch into software render mode

2014-10-09 Thread Lupius
Public bug reported:

I tried both release and proposed versions of libgl1-mesa-dri
(10.1.3-0ubuntu0.1 and 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.2). They both produce the same
error as shown below:

$ LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo

[Bug 1320267] [NEW] pkgProblemResolver logs cryptic, unactionable errors

2014-05-16 Thread Lupius
Public bug reported:

I've been having trouble upgrading Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04 due to broken
dependencies reported by pkgProblemResolver. Researched all over the
internet for a definitive solution and could not find any. The most
commonly offered solutions are of drastic measures such as removing 3rd
party PPAs, blindly remove *possible* offending packages, manually
changing Ubuntu PPAs to the newer release channel, or even a clean
install from an ISO.

I could not for the life of me find any documentation that actually
explains what is being logged by pkgProblemResolver. For example take
the following block:

Broken libclutter-1.0-0:amd64 Breaks on libcogl12 [ amd64 ] 1.14.0-2 ( libs
)
  Considering libcogl12:amd64 55 as a solution to libclutter-1.0-0:amd64 52
  MarkKeep libclutter-1.0-0 [ amd64 ] 1.14.4-3 - 1.16.4-0ubuntu2 ( libs )
FU=0
Holding Back libclutter-1.0-0:amd64 rather than change libcogl12:amd64

I'm a senior software engineer with 4+ years experience of using Ubuntu
as a dev environement, and this error log is complete gibberish to me. I
want to understand exactly how the dependency is broken in the first
place and how the resolution logic arrived at MarkKeep, so that I can
have a systematic approach for addressing these errors without resorting
to any of the earlier mentioned drastic measures.

[Bug 1279762] Re: upgrade to 14.04 from 13.10 failed - cinnamon fails to upgrade

2014-05-16 Thread Lupius
 uninstall cinnamon
 upgrade to 14.04
 add cinnamon nightly-build ppa
 re-install cinnamon

Why is not possible to have ubuntu-release-upgrader look into the right ppa in
the first place? I'm think:
add cinnamon nightly-build ppa
configure ubuntu-release-upgrader to use the ppa
upgrade to 14.04

Won't have to reinstall cinnamon then.

[Bug 1012277] Re: Closing laptop lid should not blank external monitor

2014-05-01 Thread Lupius
This bug still affects Ubuntu 14.04. I tried the workaround by
Installing xscreensaver and disabling it, but all that does is showing
the mouse cursor on the blank screen.

Use case:
1. Connect laptop to external monitor.
2. Show information on external monitor.
3. Close lid on laptop.
4. Keep showing information on external monitor.

2012-03-04 Thread Lupius
I'm having similar problem with my Sony DR-BT101, it seems to connect
fine, it appears in the sound applet, however when it's selected as
output there isn't any sound.
