[Bug 1905529] [NEW] kwin_x11 still running after logging out

2020-11-25 Thread Mark Fraser
Public bug reported:

Recently upgraded to Kubuntu 20.10 with KDE 5.19. If I log out from one
user and try to log back in, I am unable to. I am then also unable to
shutdown the computer.

When I logged in over ssh, I noticed that the process kwin_x11 was still
running under that user.

[Bug 1902976] Re: PulseAudio doesn't work when pipewire is installed (ie. KDE)

2020-11-06 Thread Mark Abbott
Something changed. I have only ever plugged in one wire from my
speakers, but out of curiosity I plugged the other two in and it started
working just fine... in 5.1 sound. I don't know if the upgrade changed
some setting in the background, but it is sorted out and better sound.

[Bug 1902976] Re: PulseAudio doesn't work when pipewire is installed (ie. KDE)

2020-11-06 Thread Mark Abbott
I can confirm that once I upgraded to Kubuntu 20.10, not sound has been
produced through the speakers.

Pulseaudio is 1:13.99.2-1ubuntu2, as noted above

Removing pipewire and restarting did not solve the issue.

[Bug 795997] Re: 8086:4238 [HP EliteBook 8540w] wifi led indicator blinks

2020-11-03 Thread Mark
The blinking light bug still exists in Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS 64bit.
Computer: HP Elitebook 8640W

The wifi on-off indicator light keeps blinking blue-red after a fresh
install.

The fix proposed by "Thomas Wagner (tomas-wagner) on 2012-07-27" does
fix the problem.

[Bug 1901372] [NEW] cram3 crashes with "invalid literal for int"

2020-10-24 Thread Mark Eichin
Public bug reported:

```
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/cram3", line 7, in
sys.exit(cram.main(sys.argv[1:]))
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/cram/_main.py", line 197, in main
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/cram/_cli.py", line 83, in testwrapper
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/cram/_test.py", line 167, in test
ret = int(cmd.split()[1])
ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 10: b'$?'
```

https://github.com/brodie/cram/issues/28 suggests that it's "tests with
stdin lines" but my not-yet-reduced example doesn't have any of those.
Interestingly, though `--verbose` doesn't change anything, using
`--debug` does make the error not occur (at the cost of vast amounts of
output.)

[Bug 1900157] Re: nautilus crashes xserver on rapid mount and unmount of network shares or google drive

2020-10-19 Thread Mark-Daniel Lüthje
Thank you for your reply. It's not closing of nautilus that causes the crash.
Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open nautilus
  2. Connect to a networkshare (e.g. Google Drive, Samba share)
2.1 If it's a samba share, set a bookmark in nautilus
  3. Now connect and disconnect the different shares several times
  4. After 1 to 5 iterations gnome-shell freezes and xserver restarts

under fossa/20.04 (but groovy/20.10 is the exact same version, 2.1.2-5.1

2020-10-07 Thread Mark Voorberg
I can confirm that installing the 5.8.14 kernel works on the Thinkbook
14.

Find the mailine kernels here:

https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D

Download these files:

linux-headers-5.8.14-050814_5.8.14-_all.deb
linux-headers-5.8.14-050814-generic_5.8.14-_amd64.deb

linux-modules-5.8.14-050814-generic_5.8.14-_amd64.deb

Copy them all to an empty folder and run:

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

After installation, reboot & enjoy!
-Thanks all

[Bug 1898613] [NEW] errors when trying to install upgrade to the new release

2020-10-05 Thread Mark Hosselton
Public bug reported:

I don't know if it's an actual bug or not. Using Release 20.04.
-
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This was likely caused by:
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If you want to
investigate this yourself the log files in '/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain
details about the upgrade. Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'.

[Bug 1880799] Re: Error: cannot import name 'compatible_tags'

2020-09-21 Thread Mark Ferrell
According to the above linked issue, this is a distribution bug, not a
local configuration or an upstream bug.

The bug goes away when the user removes the vendor package and installs
an upstream version.

[Bug 1896098] [NEW] Lenovo P1G3 - unable to select system speakers when headset plugged into audio jack

2020-09-17 Thread Mark Pearson
Public bug reported:

I suspect this is a pulseaudio or alsa bug.

Our test team reported this:
1. Prepare Padme-3 machine and Install Ubuntu_20.04 OS .
2. Boot system.
3. Play audio or video file.
4. Open Settings > Sound.
5. Hot attach headset.
6. Notice that headset is selected as output device in sound settings and sound
can be heard from headset => EXPECTED
7. While playback, select Internal Speaker as output device => KEYPOINT
9. Notice:SUT havo no sound from Internal Speakers => PROBLEM

I was able to confirm this - it seems with the headphones connected that
I can't select the system speakers. If I don't have headphones connected
I can switch between dock audio and system speakers correctly - so it's
just related to the audio jack

Thanks
Mark

You are of course entirely correct. Hamburger menus are eye-wateringly
poor fallbacks at the best of times, and it's frustrating for me too to
see them all over the desktop. I say this to make the point that even
though we care, we are simply not able to sustain a divergent UX. I
loved the work we did on Unity, controversial as it was, and believe it
was taking free software desktops in a good direction, we just couldn't
afford it, and that was that.

Perhaps in future you'll draw the distinction between the things people
care about and the things they are able to change. We are, right now,
bringing a very wide range of good things to bear in the field of
desktop, appliances, clouds, containers. We just can't manage to have an
independent desktop design and delivery program, which I know from
experience is a huge amount of work. I'm grateful we can collaborate
with existing open source teams, we ship GNOME by default but we also
take *care* to help KDE, Mate, and several others with fewer hamburger
menus.

[Bug 1890795] [NEW] Wrong version of extension is being distributed

2020-08-07 Thread Mark Summers
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: 20.04 (Focal Fossa)
Package version: gnome-shell-extension-dash-to-panel_31-1

The short story is that the version of this shell extension being
distributed for Ubuntu 20.04 is actually incompatible. You can confirm
this by looking at the changelog for the upstream project:
https://github.com/home-sweet-gnome/dash-to-panel/releases/tag/v36

The long version...

I had lots of problems with minimised windows suddenly reappearing and
then being non-interactive, except for their title bar.

Then, after the last round of updates, the application finder had major
issues after opening. It didn't display properly and then left the
desktop unusable by not closing properly.

This prompted me to investigate and manually install version 38 of the
dash-to-panel extension. That fixed all of the above issues.
Eventually, I installed the package from the Groovy channel and found
that it also works.

[Bug 1887313] [NEW] Filename prefixed with "Disc 1"

2020-07-12 Thread Mark Smith
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04
Sound Juicer 3.24.0-2

Operation:
Rip a single-disc album, with the "File name" preference set to "Number -
Title".

Expectation:
The filename should be something like "01 - My Song.mp3"

What actually happens:
The filename generated will be something like "Disc 1 - 01 - My Song.mp3".

The "Disc 1" part it not necessary (or sensible) in single-disc albums
(i.e. most of them). It would be better to either have it only included
on multi-disc albums, or have a different filename formats which include
and exclude the "Disc n" part.

[Bug 1881401] Re: HPLIP, hp-doctor, hp-check should support Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with its package base

2020-07-12 Thread Mark Burns
It seems I may have spoken too soon...

So I got the both the printer and the scanner working, however on next
boot, it had reverted right back to only the being able to print.

Any attempt to scan resulted in the "Can't communicate with the device"
error message.

Interestingly, *something* appears to automatically detect both the
printer and scanner, as both the Gnome Control Center and Simple Scan
list my device.

However, this apparently doesn't extend to HPLIP toolbox.

I have attached a copy the output from hp-check -i

[Bug 1881401] Re: HPLIP, hp-doctor, hp-check should support Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with its package base

2020-07-07 Thread Mark Burns
In my case, I was experiencing the same issues with a fresh install of
20.04[1], for HP PhotoSmart 5520 (MFD).

I was generally able to print, it was a bit more finicky than it had
been previously, however scanning didn't work. Simple Scan noted an
error message about being unable to communicate with the device.

Running hp-doctor, or hp-check -t resulted the in getting same list of
'Missing Required Dependencies' as the OP did.

After doing a bit of digging, I did the following:

* Purged all HPLIP packages [2], e.g.

sudo apt-get purge hplip hplip-data hplip-doc hplip-gui hpijs-ppds \
libsane-hpaio printer-driver-hpcups printer-driver-hpijs
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/hplip/

sudo apt-get autoremove

* Reinstalled the HPLIP packages from the repos (after having a failed
run of the Automated Installer available on HP's website) [3]

sudo apt-get install hplip hplip-gui

After that, both printing and scanning worked without issue.

Interestingly enough, running hp-doctor notes the same 'Missing Required
Dependencies' as it did previously.

[Bug 1691025] Re: Installing xpra on HWE-enabled LTS breaks system

2020-06-14 Thread Mark Jeronimus
I couldn't install xpra because it depends on `xserver-xorg-core`. When
trying to install that I saw it wants to remove lots of packages. Good
thing I decide to do a little more research because if I went on with
fingers crossed, I would probably have gotten myself into the same
broken Linux situation. Please also think about the people who don't do
some more research and break their system.
