[Bug 1898613] [NEW] errors when trying to install upgrade to the new release
Public bug reported: I don't know if it's an actual bug or not. Using Release 20.04. - An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. This was likely caused by: * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and try the upgrade again. If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. You are of course entirely correct. Hamburger menus are eye-wateringly poor fallbacks at the best of times, and it's frustrating for me too to see them all over the desktop. I say this to make the point that even though we care, we are simply not able to sustain a divergent UX. I loved the work we did on Unity, controversial as it was, and believe it was taking free software desktops in a good direction, we just couldn't afford it, and that was that. Perhaps in future you'll draw the distinction between the things people care about and the things they are able to change. We are, right now, bringing a very wide range of good things to bear in the field of desktop, appliances, clouds, containers. We just can't manage to have an independent desktop design and delivery program, which I know from experience is a huge amount of work. I'm grateful we can collaborate with existing open source teams, we ship GNOME by default but we also take *care* to help KDE, Mate, and several others with fewer hamburger menus. [Bug 1890795] [NEW] Wrong version of extension is being distributed
Public bug reported: Ubuntu release: 20.04 (Focal Fossa) Package version: gnome-shell-extension-dash-to-panel_31-1 The short story is that the version of this shell extension being distributed for Ubuntu 20.04 is actually incompatible. You can confirm this by looking at the changelog for the upstream project: https://github.com/home-sweet-gnome/dash-to-panel/releases/tag/v36 The long version... I had lots of problems with minimised windows suddenly reappearing and then being non-interactive, except for their title bar. Then, after the last round of updates, the application finder had major issues after opening. It didn't display properly and then left the desktop unusable by not closing properly. This prompted me to investigate and manually install version 38 of the dash-to-panel extension. That fixed all of the above issues. Eventually, I installed the package from the Groovy channel and found that it also works. ** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-dash-to-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890795 Title: Wrong version of extension is being distributed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-dash-to-panel/+bug/1890795/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It seems I may have spoken too soon... So I got the both the printer and the scanner working, however on next boot, it had reverted right back to only the being able to print. Any attempt to scan resulted in the "Can't communicate with the device" error message. [Bug 1881401] Re: HPLIP, hp-doctor, hp-check should support Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with its package base
In my case, I was experiencing the same issues with a fresh install of 20.04[1], for HP PhotoSmart 5520 (MFD). I was generally able to print, it was a bit more finicky than it had been previously, however scanning didn't work. Simple Scan noted an error message about being unable to communicate with the device. Running hp-doctor, or hp-check -t resulted the in getting same list of 'Missing Required Dependencies' as the OP did. After doing a bit of digging, I did the following: * Purged all HPLIP packages [2], e.g. sudo apt-get purge hplip hplip-data hplip-doc hplip-gui hpijs-ppds \ libsane-hpaio printer-driver-hpcups printer-driver-hpijs sudo rm -rf /usr/share/hplip/ sudo apt-get autoremove * Reinstalled the HPLIP packages from the repos (after having a failed run of the Automated Installer available on HP's website) [3] sudo apt-get install hplip hplip-gui After that, both printing and scanning worked without issue. Interestingly enough, running hp-doctor notes the same 'Missing Required Dependencies' as it did previously. I'm new to this forum and not sure what the status of this bug is. My situation: HP Spectre x360 laptop with the AX201 Wifi/BT chip. My wifi seems to work fine but I have "no bluetooth device" in Ubuntu 20.04 or 19.10. I'd really like to have my bluetooth working. The output of lshw shows the wifi as AC9462. [Bug 1691025] Re: Installing xpra on HWE-enabled LTS breaks system
I couldn't install xpra because it depends on `xserver-xorg-core`. When trying to install that I saw it wants to remove lots of packages. Good thing I decide to do a little more research because if I went on with fingers crossed, I would probably have gotten myself into the same broken Linux situation. Please also think about the people who don't do some more research and break their system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1691025 Title: Installing xpra on HWE-enabled LTS breaks system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xpra/+bug/1691025/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1882242] Re: June 4th network-manager update kills wireless networking
Thanks Sebastien. I'm beginning to suspect a faulty WiFi card. Wish there was some way to determine if that is the culprit.
