[Bug 2046843] Re: Gnome Packagekit crashes when entering a package name search in Ubuntu Noble
@valeryan-24 , gnome-packagekit is the same version - 43.0-2build3 in Ubuntu development branch 24.10 , so, maybe issue is in other related software, like packagekit? [Bug 1970248] Re: .deb files open with Archive Manager by default
GNOME 40 and newer doesn't use /usr/share/applications/defaults.list file, I think this is the main issue why deb files are opened by Archive Manager, for more info look at https://help.gnome.org/admin/system-admin-guide/stable/mime-types- application.html.en Quick fix could be to change the name of /usr/share/applications/defaults.list symlink to mimeapps.list , but I'm not 100% sure, because there is a line in /usr/share/applications/gnome-mimeapps.list application/x-deb=org.gnome.FileRoller.desktop The /usr/share/applications/mimeapps.list and /usr/share/applications/gnome-mimeapps.list files specify which application is registered to open specific MIME types by default. These files are provided by the distribution. To override the system defaults for all users on the system, you need to create a /etc/xdg/mimeapps.list or /etc/xdg/gnome-mimeapps.list file with a list of MIME types for which you want to override the default registered application. Files located in /etc/xdg/ take precedence over files found in /usr/share/applications/. Additionally, /etc/xdg/gnome-mimeapps.list takes precedence over /etc/xdg/mimeapps.list Btw, there is a bug #1559129 (Replace defaults.list by mimeapps.list) already reported few years ago by Ubuntu developer, but it seems someone forgot to fix that :( ** Also affects: desktop-file-utils (Baltix) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970248 Title: .deb files open with Archive Manager by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snap-store-desktop/+bug/1970248/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1876157] Re: Memtest86+ in Ubuntu 20.04 doesn't work, switch to Coreboot branch or package new release v5.31b is available since 12/04/2020
Lionel Debroux told at http://bugs.debian.org/943752 Date: Tue, 18 Jan 2022 23:08:44 +0100 https://github.com/anphsw/memtest86 is another memtest86+ fork which contains some interesting changes. Unlike both upstream and coreboot's fork: * in dmi.c, it's not affected by https://bugs.debian.org/1003906 , and it contains updated DMI struct definitions; * in spd.c, struct pci_smbus_controller smbcontrollers[] contains ~30 additional entries for Intel hardware; * in main.c and test.c, it has new latency analysis and Rowhammer tests; * etc. In config.h and lib.c , both forks have support for 4 serial ports, up from 2. On its side, the coreboot fork integrates multiboot changes, embeds a much newer and larger JEDEC ID list than both upstream and anphsw's fork, etc. Lastly, unlike both forks, upstream 5.31b has DDR5 entries in dmi.c's static char *memory_types[], a number of typo fixes, the beginning of a user-space unit test program for memtest86+ (which could be used as a starting point for fuzzing the DMI, SPD, ACPI, etc. parsing functions). It's a mess :) PS: I used the following mechanical changes to clean up a bit the large diffs between memtest86+ 5.31b and the anphsw / coreboot forks: perl -pi -e "s/v->/vv->/g" * perl -pi -e "s/isdigit/mt86_isdigit/g" * perl -pi -e "s/memcmp/mt86_memcmp/g" * perl -pi -e "s/memmove/mt86_memmove/g" * perl -pi -e "s/strncmp/mt86_strncmp/g" * perl -pi -e "s/strstr/mt86_strstr/g" * perl -pi -e "s/strlen/mt86_strlen/g" * perl -pi -e "s/error\(/mt86_error(/g" * perl -pi -e "s/print_mt86_error/print_error/g" * + 1 manual edition to test.h for renaming v to vv Many whitespace changes still appear in those diffs, despite passing the -b or -w flags to `diff`. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #1003906 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1003906 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876157 Title: Memtest86+ in Ubuntu 20.04 doesn't work, switch to Coreboot branch or package new release v5.31b is available since 12/04/2020 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/memtest86+/+bug/1876157/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

There is a fork and major rewrite of the Memtest86+: https://github.com/martinwhitaker/pcmemtest Unlike Memtest86+, PCMemTest can be used with UEFI as well as with legacy BIOS. I think Ubuntu and Debian should follow Mageia Linux distribution, where Memtest86 is replaced with PCMemTest, see Release Notes: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_8_Release_Notes#PCMemTest PCMemTest This is a fork and major rewrite of the Memtest86+ memory test utility. Unlike Memtest86+, PCMemTest can be used with UEFI as well as with legacy BIOS boot. PCMemTest replaces Memtest86+ as the memory test utility on all the Mageia ISOs. It may also be installed in a user's system. PCMemTest can be started from GRUB EFI mode like Linux kernel: menuentry "Memory Test (PCMemTest" { search --no-floppy --set=root --file /install/pcmemtest set gfxpayload=640x400,800x600,1024x768 linux /install/pcmemtest } -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876157 Title: Memtest86+ in Ubuntu 20.04 doesn't work, switch to Coreboot branch or package new release v5.31b is available since 12/04/2020 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/memtest86+/+bug/1876157/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1887507] [NEW] Please remove old libgtk2-perl from Recommends and drop dependency against gnome-icon-theme
Public bug reported: Could you please remove old libgtk2-perl from Recommends and drop the dependency against gnome-icon-theme? libgtk2-perl and gnome-icon-theme is deprecated for gtk3 and replaced by adwaita-icon-theme. If I'm not wrong, gdebi only uses one icon from gnome-icon-theme, gnome-mime-application-x-deb, this icon is not available in adwaita-icon-theme. BUT, can be replaced by the package-x-generic (which is also available in other icon themes). On my machine this is the same icon as for the .deb and .udeb files. An explicit dependency against adwaita-icon-theme should probably be avoided as libgtk3 will already pull it. ** Affects: gdebi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gdebi (Debian) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #831050 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=831050 ** Also affects: gdebi (Debian) via https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=831050 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887507 Title: Please remove old libgtk2-perl from Recommends and drop dependency against gnome-icon-theme To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdebi/+bug/1887507/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1873756] [NEW] Please replace removed Ekiga VOIP software with Jami in Ubuntu Desktop guide Video calls section
Public bug reported: There are no Ekiga package in Ubuntu 20.04, it was removed from archive on 2018-11-24 by Steve Langasek: (From Debian) ROM; RoQA; unmaintained, depends on ptlib which depends on openssl1.0; Debian bug #911593 But in Ubuntu Desktop guide, in the section "Video calls", Ekiga is mentioned and recommended - there is a string: Ekiga I've found up-to-date modern VOIP communications software, which is even supports SIP - see https://jami.net So, please replace Ekiga with Jami, maybe with mentioning old name - GNU Ring: Jami (GNU Ring) As this string doesn't have any translatable words, it can be replaced in Ubuntu Desktop guide 'Video calls' section ASAP. I'm pasting description from wikipedia and several new features added in 2019: Jami (formerly GNU Ring, SFLphone) is a SIP-compatible softphone and SIP-based instant messenger for Linux, Microsoft Windows, OS X, iOS and Android. Developed and maintained by the Canadian company Savoir-faire Linux, and with the help of a global community of users and contributors, Jami positions itself as a potential free Skype replacement. Jami is free and open-source software released under the GNU General Public License. In November 2016, it became part of the GNU Project. Two account types are currently available, and many of each type can be configured concurrently. Both types offer similar features including messaging, video and audio. The account types are SIP and Ring. A SIP account enables the Jami softphone to connect to a standard SIP server and a Ring account can register (or use an account set up) on the decentralised Jami network which requires no central server. However, Jami still has to use bootstrap server to connect making it not a truly internet free communication platform as its claim. By adopting distributed hash table technology (as used, for instance, within the BitTorrent network), Jami creates its own network over which it can distribute directory functions, authentication and encryption across all systems connected to it. Packages are available for all major Linux distributions including Debian, Fedora, and Ubuntu. On 18 December 2018, Ring was renamed Jami. You can make audio and video calls with multiple people on Jami. This feature is functional on all platforms since November 2019. There is a button during calls that allows you to easily add new participants. Because Jami doesn’t rely on servers, the conference is hosted by the device of the person who initiates it. It mixes the audio and video feed from all participant and sends it back to them so everyone can see and hear each other. Screen sharing and media streaming You are able to change the source of the video feed you send your friends during a call, allowing you to share either your entire screen or only sections. You can also stream any audio and video media files, allowing your friends to see or hear them without having to transfer them first. These features are available on GNU/Linux, Windows and Mac and you can access them by right clicking on the screen during a call. ** Affects: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873756 Title: Please replace removed Ekiga VOIP software with Jami in Ubuntu Desktop guide Video calls section To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-docs/+bug/1873756/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1870203] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 beta install crashes in grub-install step, maybe UEFI boot related issue
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 20.04 beta (2020-03-31) install process crashes in grub-install step. It may be UEFI boot related issue, because Ubuntu live USB was started in UEFI mode, but hard disk contained Windows 7 OS installed in BIOS mode and there is no ESP partition on hard disk. I've selected advanced mode and choosed XFS file system for root. [Bug 1863001] Re: Incorrect LAYOUT is set when choosing Lithuanian in dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration and Ubiquity
This patch replaces not intuitive secondary lt(us) layout with us(altgr- intl), which uses majority of Lithuanian users as secondary layout. ** Patch added: "Patch against console-setup-1.194ubuntu2/debian/keyboard-configuration.config - fixes LT layout" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/console-setup/+bug/1863001/+attachment/5328000/+files/keyboard-configuration.config-LT-layout.patch ** Description changed: If user chooses Lithuanian keyboard layout during installation (Ubiquity) or dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration then incorrect layout is set in /etc/default/keyboard : XKBLAYOUT="lt,lt" XKBVARIANT=",us" This configuration is not intuitive, because people think, that sometimes Lithuanian keyboard works (when lt1 is selected in GNOME shell panel) and sometimes doesn't work (when lt2 is selected). So, majority of Lithuanian users are force to removed second lt(us) layout and add English (US) altgr-intl layout.
