I believe that these two are fixed since long ago in the Debian package,
so it should be the same for Ubuntu.

one, there were major releases since this bug was reported.

(It was marked as private for the first 2 years of life, I am not sure
why).

[Bug 993773] Re: Error in RTShaderSystem

2012-05-15 Thread Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo
Traditionally in Debian systems, not all options are enabled by default
if they happen to contain or require non-free pieces of code; or some
other problems. For example, Adobe Flash or some drivers are not
supported or are kept in non-free. I would hardly call Firefox faulty
and that shouldn't be shipped in a release for not being able to show
some pages with flash content.

I don't know what's Ubuntu policy on that, but anyway I'm not involved
in Ubuntu -- they just happen to import my package directly. If they
ship a version of a software without 100% coverage that everything works
perfectly, it's probably due to lack of manpower. Help is welcome.
Every software company or group release software with problems
sometimes, even if they only ship core-OS software and not the gazillion
of software that Debian, Ubuntu and other distros support; and most of
them are mostly (or completely) run by volunteers.

Other than that, OGRE is quite functional for many purposes, and
especially for games that we plan to use inside Debian. If you
want/need a especial version, it's very easy to recompile and get things
working. Just install libCg, download the source deb, and re-run
debian/rules.

Cheers.

[Bug 993773] Re: Error in RTShaderSystem

2012-05-05 Thread Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo
Hi,

CG is disabled in the OGRE package of Debian (and consequently in
Ubuntu, since they take my package directly) to avoid the complications
and packaging burdens of nvidia CG libraries being non-free.

I also seems that the Debian package nvidia-cg-toolkit is badly outdated
and nobody takes care of it, so even if desired, activating it would
take some effort and would need to resurrect the nvidia-cg-toolkit
package to be useful.

So, in summary, I have no intention to enable support for it in the
Debian package. Maybe somebody will be interested in modifying the
package to include CG support it in Ubuntu, I don't know.

It's easy to take the deb-src package and recompile it in your system,
if you're interested in CG support. If you have the CG libraries
installed and recompile, probably they're even auto-detected and OGRE
builds support for it automatically.

Cheers.

2012-01-20 Thread Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo
I think that the problem is that the submitter is using some .deb not
from the project. It's impossible to avoid this kind of problems, since
it's not possible to forbid .deb packages in the wild to contain files
named the same.

Newest Ubuntu gets the latest package 1.2.11 from Debian anyway, so this
bug is not going to be fixed in any other way.

So I think that it's safe to close this bug report.

Can you please test 1.7.3-4? Should be directly installable in

packages that you have currently installed in your system. Take from
one of these places (maybe it takes a while to be available):

  http://snapshot.debian.org/package/ogre/

  http://cdn.debian.net/debian/pool/main/o/ogre/

+ogre (1.7.3-4) unstable; urgency=low

+ * Disabling some hardening and linking options, they were causing severe
+problems for some users with the application aborting during initialisation
+(Launchpad bug LP: #913523), confirmed in Debian. I think that the main

+because of compilation failures after disabling the previous one (+pie).

[Bug 913523] Re: Segfault on Root::Initialise

2012-01-09 Thread Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo
What do you mean that is linked properly or with undefined references
in the debug?

If you want the debugger to show debug info also for those other
libraries, you will need to install their corresponding debug versions.
The debug package of OGRE doesn't pull/depend on the -dbg packages of
all of the libraries that OGRE depends upon.

[Bug 913523] Re: Segfault on Root::Initialise

2012-01-08 Thread Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo
Hi Kai,

I do not use Ubuntu, but I am the maintainer of the OGRE packages in
Debian and Ubuntu seems to get them directly (as they do with other of
my packages), so I keep an eye on bug reports and everything.

First of all thanks for reporting. Second, please apologise for my lack
of experience with some stuff -- it's one of my first packages with
multi-arch enabled, and it's the first time that I see debug symbol
files made with hashes.

I also maintain sdl-mixer and sdl-net, both also imported in Ubuntu
without further changes, and I didn't get reports about them. They're
quite popular, so even if they're also very young (6 days in Ubuntu, ~19
in Debian) bug reports can come quicker than with OGRE. So I am not
sure about what can cause the problem, I followed the same procedure for
both. However, one of the noticeable differences is that OGRE is C++
while SDL are in C.

I also don't know what's the problem with the -dbg package. There are
11 *.so* files in libogre-1.7.3 and also 11 debug files, so in principle
there's nothing missing... but I am not sure how's the process for the
debugger to get symbols with this new way of hashing, so maybe it's not
finding the symbol file correctly.

What debugger are you using. Did you ever use Valgrind? Maybe you get
more info about problems happening before the actual segfault hinting to
some other issue (e.g. missing plugins).

Also, can you please tell the previous version where it's known to work
for you?

And finally, do you have any other files installed in the system that
you think that may be interfering (e.g. installation of OGRE also in
/usr/local)?

Regards.

[Bug 696909] Re: CGALBoolean plugin missing-for Boolean Operations

2011-01-10 Thread Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo
Hello Anand,

Nice listing, thank you very much.

1) Regarding the Ubuntu-Windows ones...

CARVE and Collada are not packaged into Debian (nor Ubuntu, I suspect),
so other than packaging them myself, there's nothing that I can do. I
already maintain several packages and I don't have time for more, but in
addition I know people who has been fighting with Collada for months
without being able to get anything done -- it seems to be a tricky
package.

Regarding the camera ones, in the code there are GLXCameraToBitmap and
WGLCameraToBitmap, probably the first is the Linux/Unix implementation
of OpenGL and the second the Windows one. VirtualCameraToBitmap seems
to be related to those, perhaps a base class. In any case, it's
desabled by default even on Linux, so I guess that the authors have some
powerful reason to leave it disabled (they are unstable, maybe don't
even build, etc).

The same with BundledAqsisRenderManEngine, it's disabled by default.

2) Regarding the comparison All-Plugins-Ubuntu ones...

I think that the modules related to image formats are present somewhere, for
example when deciding the materials to use for meshes. At least, all libraries
are present at build time and the modules containing those plugins are there:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 637K Jan 7 21:35 /usr/lib/k3d/plugins/k3d-jpeg-io.module
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 88K Jan 7 21:35
/usr/lib/k3d/plugins/k3d-openexr-io.module
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 867K Jan 7 21:35 /usr/lib/k3d/plugins/k3d-tiff-io.module
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 701K Jan 7 21:35 /usr/lib/k3d/plugins/k3d-png-io.module

Regarding the rest of them, Qt modules are probably experimental (the
main interface, NGUI, is based on GNOME/GTK libraries); and most of
those modules are special cases not to be found in menus. For example,
I verified that the Welcome plugin is the dialog appearing when
launching the program, which says: Welcome to K-3D Version 0.8!.

3) Conclusion

So that's it, it's nice to have the listing there to keep an eye on
what's missing. If anyone now sees the list and feels that needs some
specific plugin, he or she can ask me and I'll review the request,
investigate if it's possible to enable the specific plugin after all,
and do it :)

Thanks for your help, and if you notice anything else amiss please notify me
again!

[Bug 696909] Re: CGALBoolean plugin missing-for Boolean Operations

2011-01-07 Thread Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo
Hello Anand,

No, that will not suffice: the program has to be rebuilt (and if you are
new to Ubuntu, probably you don't know how, however there are guides
around). The instructions were mostly directed at Ubuntu packagers,
which might want to modify the Debian package that I create.

However, there is a deeper problem: the CGAL libs that this module
depends on, are in a separate repository (multiverse, for non-free
software, software which has licensing problems of some kind). I don't
know if K-3D can stay in universe repository if it depends on software
in multiverse. In Debian, the names are different but the idea is
similar, and in principle K-3D cannot be distributed with this module
enabled without important consequences and modifications (it's more
complicate than I thought in the 1st reply). I just contacted the
(main) author of the K-3D software to know if we can do something about
this.

Note: I am the Debian maintainer for this package, and at the moment
Ubuntu imports directly the package into Ubuntu repositories, so maybe
I'm not completely right when interpreting some Ubuntu policies about
this matter.

Cheers.

[Bug 696909] Re: CGALBoolean plugin missing-for Boolean Operations

2011-01-05 Thread Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo
You can get that module enabled by adding the following to build-depends in the
control file:
  libcgal-dev (= 3.6), libmpfr-dev (= 3.0), libgmp3-dev

In Debian repositories that would render the package to depend on non-
free libraries (CGAL) and would require significant changes, that's why
this is not enable.

Is this CGALBoolean module very important? If so, I can try to work out
some solution, enabling a separate package containing modules depending
on non-free libarries.

Are the any other missing features? I'm looking forward to feedback
from real users of the package.
