[Bug 314961] Re: Kernel Panic with iwl3945 ucode
I am using the same card and have the same problems. In Intrepid, I switched from NetworkManager+WEP+kernel 2.6.27-11 to Wicd+WPA2Enterprise+kernel 2.6.27-13 (I read that it could solve the problem). Although I got far less kernel panics than with the first combination (I even thought it was solved), I still got kernel panics. Also, I recently switched from Intrepid to Fedora 10 to see if it could solve the issue (also seemed to be working for some people), and I got a kernel panic in 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.i686, NetworkManager 0.7.0.99+WPA2Enterprise (far less frequent than in the original scenario with Intrepid+NM+WEP too). [Bug 336001] Re: NetworkManager causes system freeze, lock up, kernel panic
I am also experiencing this issue, but I don't have any clue on where the problem could be. On the other hand, there are a lot of similarities with what Bull Eaton said: I also get these lockups with an Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG (VAIO SZ4), and I use NetworkManager but with a WEP wireless network. When it locks, that seems to happen when there is some load in the computer (I usually get these problems scrolling websites very fast on Firefox, but I get lockups when Firefox is not running, too), my Caps Lock and Scroll Lock LEDs blink intermittently. I think the importance should be the highest possible for these type of bugs, it makes my Ubuntu system completely unusable and unreliable (system freezes, potential data loss). -- NetworkManager causes system freeze, lock up, kernel panic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/336001 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 330355] Re: Latest Kernel stops Dell Mini 9 wired ethernet
I have made the logs you requested and I discovered an interesting thing. Dell provides an utility for Ubuntu to disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or both (Airplane mode). In order to get the logs, I disabled Wi-Fi (Bluetooth was already disabled, although I think it is quite irrelevant, I note it just in case), rebooted, and wired connection was working! I tried disabling Wireless networks from NetworkManager but wired connection was still not working. The logs on Wi-Fi enabled, Bluetooth disabled, wired connection NOT working (ended in .log2). I can't post more information because yesterday I had to format my laptop, sorry but I really needed to. But I think I have more info, I remember changing this, that could have triggered the error: Login Window Preferences / Security / Configure X Server / Command. I wanted to include "-dpi 96" option but I could have failed to put it in the correct order so xorg could not start. I can't confirm this was the change but it is very likely, so I think it is a good start. Like Timo Aaltonen, I also don't agree this is an xorg issue. When I submited this bug report, I selected Ubuntu as a package (because it is unknown to me) and I haven't changed it to xorg. I think is not xorg's fault, but Ubuntu's new "failsafe" (or however it is called) method that appears when something goes awful with X and cannot start with current configuration.
