[Bug 1952155] Re: 5.13.0-21 startup failed , show white noise screen (lenovo r9000x 4800h nvidia 2060)

2022-02-08 Thread Marc D. Tessier
Fixed by doing the following:
# sudo apt install linux-oem-20.04d

This installed kernel 5.14.0-1022-oem which does not have the bug.

[Bug 1952155] Re: 5.13.0-21 startup failed , show white noise screen (lenovo r9000x 4800h nvidia 2060)

2022-01-18 Thread Marc D. Tessier
Same white noise issue on Lenovo IdeaPad 3 AMD Ryzen 5 5500U Processor, Radeon
7 graphics, running 20.04.3.
Happens when booting to kernel 5.13.0-25.
Does not happen when booting to kernel 5.11.0-46.
As with overlord_tm, graphics work fine up to the point where the disk decrypt
occurs.

[Bug 1867447] [NEW] qemu-kvm crashes early during boot on Intel Merom CPU

2020-03-14 Thread Marc D.
Public bug reported:

Package: seabios
Version: 1.13.0-1

In a freshly installed (approx. 7 days ago), fully updated focal system
on x86_64, I tried to run a simple KVM VM with qemu-kvm, seabios and
configured by libvirt. It contained an approx. 7 days old ubuntu-server
install ISO for Ubuntu focal and a LV.

When starting the VM, it immediately goes into paused state. The log
reveals that it has crashed:

KVM internal error. Suberror: 1
emulation failure

The host contains an Intel Merom CPU (mobile successor of Intel Conroe).
Libvirt's attempt at guest CPU configuration resulted in:

-cpu Conroe,vme=on,vmx=on,cx16=on,x2apic=on,tsc-
deadline=on,hypervisor=on,arat=on,tsc-adjust=on,arch-capabilities=on
,skip-l1dfl-vmentry=on

No attempt at reconfiguring the guest CPU was successful.

I noticed, however, that the same software could boot the VM on a
different Computer with a Sandy Bridge CPU, that was modeled by libvirt
as:

-cpu SandyBridge-IBRS,vme=on,vmx=on,pcid=on,hypervisor=on,arat=on,tsc-
adjust=on,umip=on,md-clear=on,stibp=on,arch-
capabilities=on,ssbd=on,xsaveopt=on,ibpb=on,amd-ssbd=on,skip-l1dfl-
vmentry=on

Also, with version 1.12.0-1 of seabios from Ubuntu eoan, the VM boots
fine on the Merom CPU.

[Bug 1822672] [NEW] popularity-contest is probably broken

2019-04-01 Thread Marc D.
Public bug reported:

I was curious how statistics are submitted by popularity-contest, so I
checked:

marc@ellen:~$ sudo bash -x /etc/cron.daily/popularity-contest
[…]
+ for URL in $SUBMITURLS
+ setsid /usr/share/popularity-contest/popcon-upload -u
https://popcon.ubuntu.com/popcon-submit.cgi -f /var/log/popularity-contest.new
-C
+ logger -t popularity-contest 'unable to submit report to
https://popcon.ubuntu.com/popcon-submit.cgi.'
[…]

When run manually, the error is:

marc@ellen:~$ /usr/share/popularity-contest/popcon-upload -u
https://popcon.ubuntu.com/popcon-submit.cgi -f /var/log/popularity-contest.new
-C -d
Unable to parse url
Expected 'PeerHost' at /usr/share/popularity-contest/popcon-upload line 75.

The URL https://popcon.ubuntu.com/popcon-submit.cgi is set in /usr/share
/popularity-contest/default.conf

I noticed that /usr/share/popularity-contest/popcon-upload contains
hardcoded sequences of "http:", so I tried to manually run popcon-upload
with "-u http://popcon.ubuntu.com/popcon-submit.cgi;. Turns out, it
works:

marc@ellen:~$ /usr/share/popularity-contest/popcon-upload -u
http://popcon.ubuntu.com/popcon-submit.cgi -f /var/log/popularity-
contest.new -C -d

I suppose this is globally broken since the URL was changed to https,
but the script was not updated to support https.

[Bug 1816267] [NEW] nm-tray has odd dependency on -dev package

2019-02-16 Thread Marc D.
Public bug reported:

Package: nm-tray
Version: 0.4.1-0ubuntu1

Package nm-tray depends on libkf5networkmanagerqt-dev. I found this
quite unusual, as -dev packages are typically required to build stuff,
not to use it.

The Debian version does not have this dependency.

The applet works even if I force-purge libkf5networkmanagerqt-dev.

I found no mention of this in the changelog or other documentation, so I
believe the dependency is an error.

SPDY is obsolete, but the current apache packages support http/2 without
any extra packages.

The .xinputrc file was from January 2016, so this still is a regression
introduced with the upgrade mentioned in the description.

[Bug 1790388] Re: gnucash crashes when navigating ledger

2018-11-09 Thread Marc D.
I experimented a bit and found that removing the user .xinputrc file
solved the problem for me.

Its active contents were:

run_im xim

I do not remember ever having generated the file, although that is
possible.

According to im-config, my input method was xim, after deleting the
config and logging out of and back into X it now is fcitx.

[Bug 1756457] [NEW] dicomimageviewer won't start without missing dependency default-jre

2018-03-16 Thread Marc D.
Public bug reported:

The package pixelmed-apps contains a program dicomimageviewer.

That program won't start, with the following output:

[Bug 1140716] Re: [regression] 3.5.0-26-generic and 3.2.0-39-generic GPU hangs on Sandybridge

2013-06-07 Thread Marc D.
I installed this one today from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v3.8.13.1-raring/ but still got a GPU hang:

Linux marc-work 3.8.13-03081301-generic #201305311535 SMP Fri May 31
19:36:22 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Jun  7 15:15:29 marc-work kernel: [18343.103883] [drm] capturing error event;
look for more information in /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state

Attached is the i915_error_state file.

But this time I could at least switch to the console and back to X and
it worked again. Before this i used the current image in raring
(3.8.0-23.34) and then the whole system hung, I wasn't even able to go
to the console.

[Bug 525046] Re: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (tg3): transmit queue 0 timed out

2010-10-27 Thread Marc D.
I also experienced this problem a few times. Running 10.04 LTS here. At
some point my wired network connection just suddenly stops working,
restarting networking, using Network Manager to connect/disconnect, or
physically removing/inserting the cable doesn't help, I have to reboot
the whole machine. The leds on the NIC are flashing though, indicating a
connection.

[Bug 375655] Re: evolution filtering freezes with panel notification enabled

2009-11-09 Thread Marc D.
I get the same here with Evolution 2.28.1-0ubuntu2 on Ubuntu 9.10. At
some point receiving mail (using IMAP4 here) just stops working (checked
mail as well using webmail and I received new mail which doesn't show in
Evolution) and it hangs on the filtering new messages. When I try to
quit Evolution it just hangs completely, and I have to kill it
(evolution --force-shutdown). Then after starting Evolution again the
new mail shows up again.

[Bug 316726] Re: startup crash after 2.24.3 update

2009-01-13 Thread Marc D.
Same message here when starting. I'm using the MS Exchange connector
(evolution-exchange), which is still at 2.24.2-0ubuntu1 while the rest
of the evolution stuff is at 2.24.3-0ubuntu1. Maybe this one should also
be updated?

When I ran evolution offline and with --disable-eplugin it started but
as soon as I selected my inbox on the exchange server it crashed with
the same error.

[Bug 231336] [NEW] Cannot login after adjusting time

2008-05-17 Thread Marc D.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When my PC boots up sometimes the CMOS is reset (probably something
wrong with the CMOS battery). After the Ubuntu login screen it displays
a popup saying that the system time is probably not correct, offering
you the option to adjust it or ignore it. When I click ignore it logs in
fine. But when I choose to adjust it shows the time and date settings
dialog (but without a border, and in the upper-left of the screen).

Expected: after adjusting the settings and clicking close the dialog
closes and logs me in to the system

What happened: after adjusting the settings and clicking close the
dialog closes, but nothing happens (I only see my desktop background).
Killing X, and logging in ignoring the warning works fine.

- Reboot PC
- Go into the BIOS setup and change the date to some date in the past (for
example 2000)

[Bug 78169] Re: Sun Java 6 Web Start Menu Entry missing -viewer command line argument

2008-04-23 Thread Marc D.
This bug has come back in sun-java6-bin 6-06-0ubuntu1! According to the
changelog:

  * javaws.desktop: Add `%u' to the Exec key, remove -viewer option.
Closes: #436645.

It looks though like the -viewer argument has been removed from the
wrong file: it was removed from the desktop shortcut
(/usr/share/applications/sun-java6-javaws.desktop), while it should have
been removed from the file association (/usr/share/application-registry
/sun-java6-web-start.applications). Now when you start webstart from
Applications-Internet-Sun Java 6 Webstart nothing happens and in the
.xsession-errors file you see the usage of javaws.

Now it happened again. Haven't seen it for 2 months or so. Haven't been
able to reproduce it.

[Bug 187969] Re: Cannot select default keyboard layout in gnome-keyboard-properties

2008-02-15 Thread Marc D.
I still have the problem that I cannot select a default one from gnome-
keyboard-properties (the radio button is not selectable, see
screenshot). The only way to change my layout now is by clicking on the
keyboard switch applet (USA changes to Nor then). I did a Reset to
defaults from there, added my Norwegian keyboard layout but still no
luck selecting it as the default.

[Bug 187969] Re: Cannot select default keyboard layout in gnome-keyboard-properties

2008-02-15 Thread Marc D.
Vytas: thanks for the info. I tried dragging my desired layout to the
top and that seemed to work. It would be more logical though if one
could just select it as the default, even in a global layout but that's
a minor thing indeed.

[Bug 187969] Re: Cannot select default keyboard layout in gnome-keyboard-properties

2008-02-04 Thread Marc D.
Same here: after reboot the layout is US. When switching the keyboard
layout by clicking on -USA- on the keyboard switch applet it displays a
question (with tooltip: Keyboard Indicator ((null))) mark but the
keyboard layout still seems to be the same. When I go to the keyboard
settings the only keyboard layout there is Norwegian but it\s not
selected as default. No errors is my .xession-errors here.

[Bug 187969] [NEW] Cannot select default keyboard layout in gnome-keyboard-properties

2008-02-01 Thread Marc D.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Gnome: Preferences - Keyboard - Layout tab

What happened: I cannot select the radiobutton for the default layout anymore.
I had to remove the selected layout (US) with the Remove button and add my
own layout (Norwegian) to get it to work.
Expected: I can add another keyboard layout and use the Default radio button
to make it the default

[Bug 10239] Re: dhcp3-client: Does not send hostname to server by default

2008-01-29 Thread Marc D.
Update: I now have a fresh installation and after adding the line send
fqdn.server-update on to dhcient.conf (the default one after
installation) it works here, I can lookup my IP via nslookup hostname
again. Without it it doesn't work.

[Bug 105579] Re: Evolution-exchange crash when using autocomplete of mail addresses from Exchange Global Address List

2007-04-16 Thread Marc D.
Same here (running Evolution 2.10.1-0ubuntu2 under Feisty), connected to
an Exchange server and using the global address list. The last time it
crashed under Feisty I had to restart X since everything seemed to hang.

Actually it also crashed frequently when it tried to autocomplete an
address under the Evolution versions in Dapper and Edgy.

[Bug 10239] Re: dhcp3-client: Does not send hostname to server by default

2007-04-16 Thread Marc D.
Just checked: I don't have any DHCP related errors in the log file.

When I did a nslookup hostname or nslookup hostname.domain.com it
returned an old IP address I had a few weeks ago. Then I did sudo
dhclient -r eth0 to release, replaced hostname in dhclient.conf with
the actual hostname followed by a sudo dhclient eht0. Then I did a
nslookup again and then nslookup couldn't resolve it anymore.

When I use this instead:
send fqdn.fqdn hostname.domain.com;
send fqdn.server-update on;
it does work, but I don't want to send a fqdn since I use my laptop at other
sites too.

Weird indeed..
