[Bug 2081864] [NEW] Upgrade from mantic to noble aborted. Broken packages

2024-09-24 Thread Marco
Public bug reported:

Hello ubuntu devs,

Trying to upgrade from mantic to noble but my system has broken
packages. About 93 now. Before they were almost 200

I tried removing some broken packages and made some mistakes on the way I guess.
The point is that I also have some fundamental packages in broken state. For
instance, python3 and I cannot remove it since it depends on grub-common.

The error from /var/log/dist-upgrade is:

# grep 'E:' main.log
2024-09-24 18:26:37,663 ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'E:Unable to correct
problems, you have held broken packages.'

I tried many things, I checked with dpkg --get-selections if I had hold
packages and I did not have.
My last try was to mark as "hold" grub packages:

# apt-mark showhold
grub-efi-amd64-bin
grub-efi-amd64-signed

Could you please give a hand on this one?

Thank you very much in advance!

[Bug 2067090] [NEW] settings menu labels disappeared after upgrade from 23.10 to 24.04

2024-05-24 Thread Marco Aurelio A. Barbosa
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 23.10 to 24.04 the labels of various items on the settings
menu simply disappeared. The buttons are still working but, since they are
empty, I need to click on each of them to find their function.

Changing between dark and light style doesn't change the behavior.

[Bug 2062960] Re: ubuntu 24.04 mailman3-web fails install on clean system

2024-04-26 Thread Marco van Zwetselaar
Can confirm this also occurs when upgrading from mantic to noble.

The issue appears to be caused by a breaking change introduced in
version 1.3.10 (2023-10-21)[1], which is the version of python3-django-
postorius in noble.

Adding "allauth.account.middleware.AccountMiddleware" to the MIDDLEWARE
list in /usr/share/mailman3/settings.py fixes the issue, but I then run
into other incompatibility errors. First there is this:

   File
"/opt/mailman/mm/venv_rel/lib/python3.9/site-packages/hyperkitty/lib/renderer.py",
 line 6, in
from mistune.plugins.extra import plugin_url
   ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'mistune.plugins.extra'

which appears to be an upstream issue[2] that is harder to solve on our
end because it requires a downgrade to of python-mistune to 2.x, whereas
noble ships with 3.0.2.

I briefly tested with the referencing code (in /usr/lib/python3/dist-
packages/hyperkitty/lib/renderer.py) patched out. The mailman3 web
application then does come up, but now spews periodic errors to the log
that suggest that a database migration should have run:

10:11:10 [Q] ERROR Could not create task from schedule
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/django/db/backends/utils.py", line
89, in _execute

psycopg2.errors.UndefinedColumn: column
django_q_schedule.intended_date_kwarg does not exist
LINE 1: ..._schedule"."task", "django_q_schedule"."cluster", "django_q_...

Here is where I stopped chasing this down, but there may be light at the
end of the tunnel: the Debian maintainer yesterday committed a snapshot
of the latest upstream[3], which is supposed to fix the allauth issue[4]
as well as several others.

For now, I'll try rolling back to the mantic packages, which worked
great (with patches for #2060293, #2060276, and #2060753). Owww this
package could really use some TLC :).

Cheers
Marco

  I assume Postfix (with smtp_tls_security_level = dane i.e.

- systemctl restart systemd-resolved

+ systemctl restart systemd-resolved

I am not sure if this could be considered a Postfix bug as well (it
could consider a SERVFAIL on a TLSA record the same as a negative), but
surely it seems to me the systemd-resolved stub resolver should not
  return the SERVFAIL here.

[Bug 2062173] [NEW] Apparmor denies updating namespace with ecryptfs

2024-04-18 Thread Marco Tanner
Public bug reported:

Noticed on Ubuntu 23.10. Started misbehaving on April 17th 2024.

$ snap info chromium
...
snap-id: XKEcBqPM06H1Z7zGOdG5fbICuf8NWK5R
tracking: latest/stable
refresh-date: today at 08:58 CEST
channels:
  latest/stable:123.0.6312.122 2024-04-15 (2821) 168MB -
...

When running chromium, it complains about not being able to open my home dir:
cannot update snap namespace: cannot expand mount entry (none
$HOME/.local/share none x-snapd.kind=ensure-dir,x-snapd.must-exist-dir=$HOME 0
0): cannot use invalid home directory "/home/tannerli": permission denied
snap-update-ns failed with code 1

AppArmor log shows that access to ecryptfs private folder was denied:

Apr 18 13:13:21 hostname kernel: audit: type=1400
audit(1713438801.579:437): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
class="file" profile="snap-update-ns.chromium"
name="/home/.ecryptfs/tannerli/.Private/" pid=32412 comm="5"
requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

I found out, that, under /var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles, while
snap.chromium.chromium has the line
owner @{HOMEDIRS}/.ecryptfs/*/.Private/ r,

the file snap-update-ns.chromium does _not_ have the line. Adding it and
reloading the profile allows chromium to start again.

I'm nowhere near experienced enough to tell whether this line should be
added by default or something else went wrong on my machine.

[Bug 2060753] [NEW] mailman3-web needs DEFAULT_AUTO_FIELD setting

2024-04-09 Thread Marco van Zwetselaar
Public bug reported:

Installation of mail3man-web (0+20200530-2.1) in mantic produces a list
of 14 warnings that look like this:

WARNINGS:
django_mailman3.MailDomain: (models.W042) Auto-created primary key used
when not defining a primary key type, by default 'django.db.models.AutoField'.
HINT: Configure the DEFAULT_AUTO_FIELD setting or the
DjangoMailman3Config.default_auto_field attribute to point to a subclass of
AutoField, e.g. 'django.db.models.BigAutoField'.

This would only be a minor nuisance, except that the application sends
this list of warnings in an email to the site administrator _once every
minute_.

The issue can be resolved by adding this line to

[Bug 2060276] [NEW] mailman3-web 0+20200530-2.1 fails to install

2024-04-06 Thread Marco van Zwetselaar
Public bug reported:

Installing mailman3-web on mantic fails with:

  File "/usr/share/mailman3-web/urls.py", line 20, in
from django.conf.urls import include, url
ImportError: cannot import name 'url' from 'django.conf.urls'
(/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/django/conf/urls/__init__.py)
dpkg: error processing package mailman3-web (--configure):
installed mailman3-web package post-installation script subprocess returned
error exit status 1

The error is due to deprecation of url in django.conf.urls, see here:
https://github.com/Tivix/django-rest-auth/issues/659

The fix is to replace it with re_path from django.urls. Patch for
/usr/share/mailman3-web/urls.py is attached.

[Bug 2060293] [NEW] mailman3-web needs Q_CLUSTER retry setting

2024-04-06 Thread Marco van Zwetselaar
Public bug reported:

Installation of mailman3-web (0+20200530-2.1) on mantic produces this
warning:

Creating config file /etc/mailman3/mailman-web.py with new version

/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/django_q/conf.py:139: UserWarning: Retry and
timeout are misconfigured. Set retry larger than timeout,
failure to do so will cause the tasks to be retriggered before
completion.
See https://django-q.readthedocs.io/en/latest/configure.html#retry
for details.

This refers to the 'retry' and 'timeout' fields of the Q_CLUSTER
dictionary configured in /usr/share/mailman3-web/settings.py.

That file sets 'timeout' to 300, but has no setting for retry. The
documentation linked above states that the built-in default is 60
seconds.

Though Django reports this as a warning, clearly this configuration will
cause bugs such as tasks being executed multiple times (up to 5 retries
could be started while previous tasks may still finish).

The fix is to add a 'retry' setting to the settings file. Assuming that
the 300s timeout was deliberately chosen upstream, then setting the
retry interval to 360 would be sensible (= retry one minute after
timeout). A patch is attached.

[Bug 1965749] [NEW] Issues when connecting 2 DP external monitors

2022-03-21 Thread Marco Marino
Public bug reported:

Hello Team,
I have a Dell XPS 15 9500 laptop with the Dell WD19S Docking station and Ubuntu
20.04 LTS.

Actually, I have many problems with external monitors. Let me explain:

The WD19S docking station has 3 outputs for monitors: 2 Display Port and
1 HDMI port.

The ideal configuration for me is to use the 2 DisplayPort connectors
with 2 external monitors AND the display of the laptop.

Problem 1:
If I use ONLY the HDMI port, the resolution of the external monitor is 3840 x
2160 (16:9) and this works without any problem.

If I connect the same monitor using a single DisplayPort connector, the
resolution is 2560 x 1440 (16:9). Also, the size of the screen is
different: with HDMI the monitor is 28'' but when I use the DisplayPort
connector the size is 27''

Monitor is Samsung U28E570D

Problem 2:

When I connect two monitors with DP the gnome utility becomes crazy (see
attached image, ) and only one monitor works.

Note: I'm using two equal monitors: Samsung U28E570D

Thank you!
Marco

[Bug 1962157] Re: [SRU to impish] Mitigate KNS load on KDE servers

2022-03-02 Thread Marco Parillo
Successful test.

I installed the proposed pocket knewstuff packages with Discover >

Then refreshed and upgraded and rebooted. Afterwards:

[Bug 1959825] Re: Can't upgrade linuxptp with chrony installed

2022-02-10 Thread Marco Davids
Workaround:

Fetch the .deb from the repositatory and put it in a temporary place.

Then do (as root):

dpkg-deb -R linuxptp_3.1.1-2_amd64.deb tmp

(edit DEBIAN/control, remove the 'Provides')

mv linuxptp_3.1.1-2_amd64.deb linuxptp_3.1.1-2_amd64.deb_org

dpkg-deb -b tmp linuxptp_3.1.1-2_amd64.deb

and install the new, modified .deb

[Bug 1959367] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freeze after few seconds on an hp 15-dw1069nl

2022-01-28 Thread Marco Ciampa
Also I am not sure of from which version the problem did show up since
it was not me that did the upgrade that triggered the problem. If you
can grab one of those hp laptops that seems that they are _very_ common
(my friend bough it from Mediaworld) perhaps you can bisect and find the
point when exactly this problem arose. I also thought that the wifi
kernel module could be blamed of all this because of the strange
behaviour of the drivers dialog that reports that it does not work but
actually it seems to work fine... strange hu?

2022-01-28 Thread Marco Ciampa
I tried a few, with the same results (5.4.0-96-generic and
5.13.0-27-generic signed and unsigned for sure). I started to think that
it was because of something external of the kernel when I noticed that
with the "oem" series of kernels the problem just vanished. I tried some
of the "oem" series but it seems that all works right away. Hope this
has some meaning for you...

[Bug 1959367] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 freeze after few seconds on an hp 15-dw1069nl

2022-01-27 Thread Marco Ciampa
Public bug reported:

Some days ago I helped one of my friends who bough an HP laptop
(15-dw1069nl ... Intel i7-10510U - nvidia GM108M(GeForce MX130)). I
installed Ubuntu 20.04 on it without problems (not checked every details
thought). He said that the problem happened after an update. After a few
secs after it boots, it freezes. No way to do anything. I tried myself
... it happens even in the emergency console (i.e. without X...)! I
tried reinstalling Ubuntu 20.04 myself. Yes, it fixes it...but true,
until the next update! After the update... count 1 to 5 after the boot
and it is completely frozen.

For the time being I resolved installing an oem kernel version
(linux-image-oem-20.04d -> linux-image-5.14.0-1020-oem and fixed nvidia driver
after install of package linux-oem-20.04d which installed the missing kernel
headers files...
BTW:

- the driver panel says that wifi does not work (RTL 8169) but actually it
works flawlessly
- the screen brightness keys do not work (but the sound keys do work). It's
probably only the keys, since using the cursor, luckily, you can regulate the
screen backlight. xev report no key press at all...

I am reporting this mainly for a heads up to the Ubuntu dev folks because I,
somehow - but I do not know exactly how - resolved, and probably the same
problems happen to the whole hp 15-sw10xx series...
Please note that I have not direct access to that machine. So I may can
additional tests in the future but not easily/immediately.

[Bug 1952223] [NEW] Grub reinstall failure ubuntu 20.04 in a system that didn't have an EFI partition

2021-11-25 Thread Marco Pereira
Public bug reported:

This is an UBUNTU 20.04. All my partitions were ext4 and the installer
complained that I didn't have an EFI partition. I deleted the /boot
partition and divided into 100 Mb EFI and 900 Mb /boot.

I also tried to have the 1000 Mb /boot to be all EFI.

Either way the installer didn't install.

[Bug 1951117] [NEW] jvm-lts crashing during tomcat session replication

2021-11-16 Thread Marco Ferretti
Public bug reported:

I have setup a test environment with two tomcat9 (tomee-plume-8.0.6) nodes
running behind an apache 2.4 with mod_jk.
At the startup everything's fine, the application deploys and apache is happy
about the workers.
I open a session to the application by visiting localhost/app; mod_jk directs
to node1, the java session is opened and the application is accessed. As soon

[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled

2021-11-10 Thread Marco De Felice
Hi Adnrea,

I tried to boot with your kernel, but could'nt because it was not
finding zfs modules and asked me to load zfs modules manually. I don't
know zfs enough to do what is being asked, but I do have a zfs encripted
filesystem so I cannot boot without zfs.

(btw dpkg -i *.deb with your deb files reports that linux-
headers-5.13.0-22-generic depends on linux-headers-5.13.0-22 and is left
unconfigured)

[Bug 1893302] Re: SDDM freezes on system boot

2021-11-01 Thread Marco
I'm on UbuntuStudio 20.04 and had similar issues with lightdm I then
switched to sddm and exactly run into the same bug sporadically:

Nov 01 14:33:12 marco sddm[1007]: Auth: sddm-helper exited with 9
Nov 01 14:33:12 marco sddm[1007]: Greeter stopped.

The mouse still works but the sddm screen is basically unresponsive.

Is there any news on this?

[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled

2021-10-21 Thread Marco De Felice
I have the same issue on my ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 Type 20TA with the latest
firmware.

Just wanted to add that the proposed workaround of disabling psmouse
(via boot options or via disabling in bios) is not working for me.

Also tried the kernel at
https://people.canonical.com/~mschiu77/lp1941773/I/ but this too is not
working.

I have a zsys encripted filesystem, when I boot normally I get the same
error others are getting.

When I boot with modprobe.blacklist=psmouse I can go past the previous
error and get to the point where the system asks for the password to
decrypt the filesystem, but then I get a different error (picture
attached)

[Bug 1945308] [NEW] Resolution during installation

2021-09-28 Thread Marco Colnaghi

During installation the graphical system starts in too low resolution.

Launching TRY UBUNTU and setting a good screen resolution
allows to proceed, but at some time screen switch back
to a low resolution which makes difficult to see entire dialogs and to proceed
with installation.

This requires to set screen resolution a couple of times during
installation.

This bug happens during virtualbox machines install.

[Bug 1852985] Re: X Error of failed request: BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length error)

2021-08-28 Thread Marco Altieri
I can confirm that `sudo apt purge fonts-noto-color-emoji` solved the problem
for me too.
I am on Ubuntu 20.04.

[Bug 1938983] Re: missing modules after 5.11.0-25-generic update

2021-08-07 Thread Marco Scacchi
It seems in the kernel three those files are not missing:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/i915
Maybe the linux-firmware package needs to be repacked as well?

2021-07-31 Thread Marco Witte
This https://lkml.org/lkml/2021/7/12/2926 also worked for an Fujitsu U7411.
However no touchpad at this moment, but the network part is working.
Hope this finds it's way to the next kernel.

[Bug 1938076] [NEW] sporadic system freeze after log in

2021-07-26 Thread Marco
Public bug reported:

With kernel

Linux version 5.4.0-77-lowlatency (buildd@lgw01-amd64-028) (gcc version
9.3.0 (Ubuntu 9.3.0-17ubuntu1~20.04)) #86-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Thu Jun 17
03:26:36 UTC 2021 (Ubuntu 5.4.0-77.86-lowlatency 5.4.119)

in Ubuntustudio I got two system freezes (video frozen, mouse and
keyboard without function) some seconds after login in the last days.

In the journal I see in both cases a kernel error referring to drm_kms:

[Bug 1934592] [NEW] Skanlite fails with "sane_start= Invalid argument"

2021-07-04 Thread Marco Sulla
Public bug reported:

I have a Canon TS6350 connected to the WLAN to the Lubuntu 20.04.2. I
installed the official updated Canon drivers.

Skanlite is able to connect to the printer with or without encryption
(port 80 or 443). When I press the button, Scan, the scan is done by the
printer. At the end of the scan, Skanlite reports me "sane_start=

[Bug 1933104] [NEW] Static linking is broken on C interface

2021-06-21 Thread Marco Manino
Public bug reported:

On a fresh install of ubuntu (any version), installing libgeos-dev is
not enough to compile any program using this library with static
linkage. The main problem is that libgeos depends on libgeos++. If
dynamic linking is used, everything is fine since:

> ldd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgeos_c.so
linux-vdso.so.1 (0x7ffca45f6000)
libgeos-3.9.0.so => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgeos-3.9.0.so
(0x7ff637841000)
libstdc++.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
(0x7ff637628000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x7ff63743c000)
libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
(0x7ff637421000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6 (0x7ff6372d3000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x7ff637a78000)

So libgeos_c.so brings in libgeos symbols, too.

If static linkage is used, this does not happen, but a link error
occurs.

In fact,

> geos-config --static-clibs
-L/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu -lgeos_c -lgeos -lm

But:
> dpkg-query -L libgeos-dev
/.
/usr
/usr/bin
/usr/bin/geos-config
/usr/include
/usr/include/geos
/usr/include/geos/export.h
/usr/include/geos_c.h
/usr/lib
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgeos_c.a
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/libgeos-dev
/usr/share/doc/libgeos-dev/AUTHORS
/usr/share/doc/libgeos-dev/NEWS.gz
/usr/share/doc/libgeos-dev/README.Debian
/usr/share/doc/libgeos-dev/README.md.gz
/usr/share/doc/libgeos-dev/copyright
/usr/share/man
/usr/share/man/man1
/usr/share/man/man1/geos-config.1.gz
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgeos_c.so
/usr/share/doc/libgeos-dev/NEWS.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libgeos-dev/changelog.Debian.gz

and:

> dpkg-query -L libgeos++-dev | grep libgeos
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgeos.a
/usr/share/doc/libgeos++-dev
/usr/share/doc/libgeos++-dev/copyright
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgeos.so
/usr/share/doc/libgeos++-dev/NEWS.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libgeos++-dev/changelog.Debian.gz

As you can see, no 'libgeos.a' can be found in libgeos-dev, since it is
part of lbgeos++-dev, which is not part of the libgeos-dev dependencies
anymore (it was!). For this reason, any compilation attempt using the
result of `geos-config --static-clibs` will fail with:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgeos
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
