[Bug 1945342] Re: linux-image-5.4 should be a dependency for nvidia-340 drivers

2021-09-28 Thread Marco Boneff
** Description changed:

+ This is the first bug i file, so please bear with my inexperience :)
+
nvidia-340 kernel modules are not compatibile with the latest linux
- kernel (5.1* series). So when ubuntu-drivers-common detects and installs
- the nvidia-340 drivers it should also install the latest compatible
- kernel version of the linux 5.4 series.
+ kernel (5.1* series, which are default in the latest 20.04 point
+ releases and following ubuntu releases). So when ubuntu-drivers-common
+ detects and installs the nvidia-340 drivers it should also install the
+ latest compatible kernel version of the linux 5.4 series.
+
+ This happened to me when trying to install ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on an old
+ macbook 6,1 (white unibody macbook). Driver manager suggested nvidia-340
+ for my machine, but installation failed when building kernel modules
+ were incompatibile with the latest linux kernel.
+
+ I solved the problem by manually running sudo apt-install --install-
+ recommends linux-generic and by rebooting on an older version of the
+ kernel

[Bug 1876696] [NEW] Install button still actionable when snap install in progress

2020-05-04 Thread Marco Boneff
Public bug reported:

When installing a new snap from gnome-software, the "install" button
remains clickable while installing is in progress. If you press the
button once again, the store returns an error "Impossible to install
«%snap_name%»: snap "%snap_name%" has "install-snap" change in
progress".

Test Case
1. Open GNOME Software
2. Select a snap and click on the install button
3. Click again on the same button

Expected result:
- When the button "Install" is clicked once, it should become inactive (change
color and not be clickable anymore).
- the label on the button should change showing something like "install in
progress"
- (Desired, not forcefully required) A progress bar should indicate that
something is happening

Observed result:
Install button is always active and clickable.

[Bug 355209] Re: The Evolution plugin for Mail Notification doesn't work/exist

2017-11-03 Thread Marco Boneff
Again same problem in Artful (ubuntu 10.17 !!!) but this workaround is
not working anymore. This time, as I checked, the plugin is located in
/usr/lib/evolution but somehow I can't check the checkbox in Evolution
plugin list. I'm using Ubuntu 17.10 and MATE desktop.

[Bug 606822] Re: evoultion show that it success to connect to exchange but it can't open the mail folders

2010-10-13 Thread Marco Boneff
I confirm the behavior on my today installed Maverick (stable)
release... this thing really sucks and breaks overall good experience
that this ubuntu release provide... at least for people trying to use
ubuntu at workplace. The workarounds are partially working but the
opening command for the built-in notification applet can't be manually
changed and so the whole experience is compromised.

Please solve this problem as soon as possible and provide an application
update!

[Bug 528765] Re: Passwords longer than 8 characters crash GDM

2010-03-11 Thread Marco Boneff
I noticed the same described behaviour with my 8 character password:
When my session starts (automatic login) gnome-keyring asks me to enter a
password to unlock network-manager WEP key.
After having inserted my password, if i confirm it hitting the ENTER button GDM
and (and X) crashes and I have to login again.

I noticed that this happens only the first time I login after a normal
startup process. After the first crash and the second login, nothing
strange happens anymore. I also noticed that if I don't hit the ENTER
button (and i use the "ok" button clicking with the mouse) GDM doesn't
crash immediatly but it waits until the key ENTER is pressed. (I opened
the chromium web browser, i typed an URL address and i hit ENTER to
confirm... and GDM crashed).

I hope this description will be in someways useful

[Bug 269656] Re: AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP

2008-09-15 Thread Marco Boneff
my 2 cents

1) If Mozilla's team doesn't want to be reasonable and discuss this with
the ubuntu community, ubuntu should behave in the same way. treating
Firefox as every other open source project included in the distro.
Firefox wants an EULA we don't want? We can use Iceweazel/Icedove as
debian does... and put the firefox package in the restricted repository.
End of the story.

2) Of course I think having the official firefox in ubuntu is the best
solution, we're similar projects and we have to be able to discuss and
find solultions together in order to for excellence together. But we
don't want an EULA to bother end users, and we don't want Firefox to be
perceived as a "restricted" package in ubuntu. If we're speaking about
corporate image, i think not being recognized as a "fully free" open
source project from other leading open source projects could only affect
firefox's image, not ubuntu's.

3) If ubuntu's community will adopt another browser instead of firefox,
I strongly disagree using something different from IceWeazel (why we
have to ruin firefox brand twice? abrowser is simply not a name). I
would rather see an epiphany-based distro!

I have a similar problem in gutsy. When I try to unmount my Belkon USB Memory
Stick (1GB, fat16) or my cell phone memory card (SD m2 micro 4GB) nautilus
gives me this error:

This error came up after the upgrade from feisty, before everything were
perfect, I wonder why there has been this regression.
I really don't know what to do this problem is really critical for my daily

2007-09-30 Thread Marco Boneff
to avoid misunderstandings I'll try to clarify what's happening without
using the word "upstream":

As described and discussed here:
(https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/13996) official
mozilla builds of Thundebird (taken directly from Mozilla Thundebird
website) are showing in every locale 5 options in the configuration
wizard. As Wrwrwr said, some versions of Thunderbird packaged and
included in Gutsy show only three or four options in the configuration
wizard:

Ubuntu Gutsy locale packages showing 3 options:

en_GB
es_ES, es_MX
fr_FR, fr_CA
it_IT, it_CH

he_IL
hi_IN
zu_ZA

(example 1: (en_US):http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9611267/en_US.png)

NOTE:

Every official Mozilla locale builds of Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 (binaries

Re: [Bug 90464] Re: TIACX100 based wireless PCI card not recognized

2007-03-13 Thread Marco Boneff
Hi Ryan, thank you for everything you do for ubuntu!

Unfortunately I cannot give you the output of lspci because I just
removed feisty herd 5 to return to dapper (I'm using that computer for
my everyday work, so I cannot stay without connectivity until this bug
is fixed). Anyway, I remember the device was found and "named", but
not recognized as a PCI wifi card. So I wasn't able to use it
out-of-the box.

NO I didn't manually installed the drivers/firmwares... Actually I'm
expecting them to work out-of-the-box in feisty as it did in dapper
and ALL previous ubuntu versions (including warty). Installing those
drivers is trivial for people without experience (and maybe with a
poor english knowledge) and I think wireless connectivity is a basic
requirement for the average user which uses ubuntu on a laptop.

Thank you again for your work! I hope this bug will be fixed as soon
as possibile (I can't wait to try feisty) :D

Greetings from Switzerland

Neff

[Bug 90472] ATI Radeon IGP 320m misconfiguration after installation (text mode) make the system freeze before x load at startup

2007-03-07 Thread Marco Boneff
Public bug reported:

I wasn't able to install ubuntu in live mode (it worked with dapper and
all previous versions but not with edgy) I had to download the alternate
version as I did with edgy. However after the end of the setup process
Feisty and Edgy fail when loading X. I have to restart the distro in
debug mode and manually reconfigure my card with "dpkg-reconfigure
xserver-xorg". It seems that ubuntu is setting by default the "glx"
extension which seems not to be working with this device
