2020-09-10 Thread Marco Parillo
Loaded the VM with GG.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/staging-frameworks
All updates appeared to apply cleanly
Restarted the VM using the Application Launcher > Leave sequence.
Briefly tested krunner to launch kinfocenter which showed KDE Frameworks 5.74.0
Launched from the kicker application launcher: System Settings, System Monitor,
Libre Office Writer, Konversation, Konsole, Dolphin, Kate, Discover, and
Firefox.
All apps appeared to behave normally.

[Bug 1876876] Re: SRU tracking bug for plasma 5.18.5 in Focal

2020-05-14 Thread Marco Parillo
LGTM:

Method:
Updated with Discover. Click on Software Sources, Enter your sudo password,
Select Updates Tab, Click on Pre-Released Updates, Close, Reload, View Updates,
Check for Updates, Update All, Re-boot (click from Riscover).

Result. No errors shown by Discover. Krunner worked, launching
kinfocenter, correctly reporting Plasma 5.18.5. The Application Launcher
worked, launching konsole, which verified plasmashell -v and apt
confirmed the Discover result of no updates remaining.

All major apps appeared normal: System Settings, ksysguard, Dolphin,
Libre Office, Kate, Firefox, Discover, and konsole.

[Bug 1794494] Re: SRU tracking bug for KDE's Plasma 5.12.7 for bionic

2018-11-22 Thread Marco Parillo
Grabbed an old VM, not updated since installing 18.04.1. 307 pending
updates. I did not remember selecting -Proposed on that VM, but Discover
wanted to update to, among other things, Plasma 5.12.7. I got the
notification that a restart would be required, and after re-booting my
VM, kinfocenter reported Plasma 5.12.7, KDE FW 5.44.0, and Qt 5.9.5.
Discover had a black box for Pre-released updates, unlike the check
marks for Important, Recommended, and Unsupported updates. Changing the
black box to a check mark and reloading Discover's cache still gave me
no updates. Same with apt full-upgrade (nothing to do). So, I
successfully tested Apps include: krunner, the Application Launcher,
Discover, System Settings, System Monitor, Konsole, Kate, Firefox, and
LibreOffice writer. No issues.

[Bug 1779456] Re: SRU tracking bug for KDE's Plasma 5.12.6 for bionic

2018-07-02 Thread Marco Parillo
It looks good to me. I started an 18.04 Proposed VM (Pre-released
updates checked in Discover). Applied updates using Discover, and re-
booted. Krunner launced kinfocenter which reports KDE Plasma 5.12.6, FW,
5.44, and Qt 5.9.5. The Application Launcher successfully launched
System Settings, Konsole, Dolphin, Discover, and System Monitor, and I
launched Kate from Dolphin. Everything passed the five second test.

2018-05-28 Thread Marco Parillo

I started a Kubuntu 18.04 VM with -proposed enabled.
I started Discover, and saw an update to 5.12.5.1 was available.
Applied updates. Discover suggested a re-boot, so I re-booted my VM.
After a re-boot, I started Discover again.
I typed 'latte' (without the single quotes) in the search box and pressed enter.
No Crash.

All good.
I enabled Proposed (Pre-release Updates) to my VM using Discover, and rebooted,
and tested:
 - Discover Launched from the notification widget and successfully applied a
system update
 - Alt F2 launched Krunner and I successfully invoked kinfocenter
 - Kinfocenter Successfully returned KDE Plasma 5.12.5 KDE Frameworks 5.44, and
Qt 5.9.5
 - Alt F1 launches the Kicker Application Launcher, and I successfully launched
konsole and ran an apt command under sudo
 - The Super key also launches the Kicker Application Launcher, and I
successfully launched System Settings
 - I used the RMB to successfully add the Analog Clock and Weather Widgets, and
configured the weather widget successfully.

[Bug 1754825] Re: [FFe] KDE Frameworks 5.44.0 into the Bionic Archive

2018-03-10 Thread Marco Parillo
I ran sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/staging-frameworks
Then sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y

The update looked clean, and I re-booted my VM using the kicker
Application Launcher Leave > Reboot sequence (which sometimes does not
work in major Plasma upgrades).

After Rebooting krunner successfully launched kinfocenter, which
reported Plasma 5.12.3, Frameworks 5.44, and Qt 5.9.5. The kicker
Application Launcher successfully launched Discover, Dolphin, Kate,
Konsole, System Monitor, and System Settings, and all appeared to work
fine.

[Bug 1687444] Re: Zesty SRU tracking bug for KDE's Plasma 5.9.5

2017-08-24 Thread Marco Parillo
Looks good to me.

I downloaded 64-bit 17.04 this morning to a fresh VM. Fully updated,
rebooted, then added Pre-release updates via Discover, updated and re-
booted again. No immediate breakage.

krunner works, and invoking kinfocenter, I see KDE Plasma 5.9.5, FW
5.31, and Qt 5.7.1

The Kicker Application Launcher works and has favorites. Firefox,
Dolphin, Kate, System Settings, Discover, Konsole, and System Monitor
all launched and seemed OK. LibreOffice Icons are OK, but I only had a
problem with them on real HW (and it has been some time ago that I have
been able to duplicate the problem).

[Bug 1655631] [NEW] Internal Microphone works on 16.04, but not on ZZ

2017-01-11 Thread Marco Parillo
Public bug reported:

My microphone (built in, or using the plug-in jack) works just fine in
16.04 with the Kubuntu backports PPA, but not in ZZ. This is in two
partitions on the same laptop. I think System Settings multimedia looks
the same in both 16.04 and ZZ.

Since it is the same piece of HW, and with the backports, I assume the
app layer is almost identical between 16.04 and ZZ, I wonder if it is
lower down in the stack.

[Bug 1627348] Re: Live DVD boots to black screen with mouse pointer

2016-09-26 Thread Marco Parillo
I was able to F1, and type startx, but Plasma did not load
fully. I could also sudo poweroff and that worked.

[Bug 1529450] Re: [master] AttributeError: 'PageKde' object has no attribute 'get_secureboot_key'

2016-01-12 Thread Marco Parillo
[05:37] btw, I found a "fix" for the xenial install failure. I
will post in a second for snele reference. And to answer snele question, 16.04
also has the sddm failure.
[05:37] To fix xenial install issue
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1529450
AttributeError: 'PageKde' object has no attribute 'get_secureboot_key')
[05:37] Launchpad bug 1529450 in ubiquity (Ubuntu) "[master]
AttributeError: 'PageKde' object has no attribute 'get_secureboot_key'"
[Critical,Triaged]
[05:37] Grab a 15.10 iso and mount it (Disk image mounter in
dolphin works great).
[05:37] Copy /casper/filesystem.squashfs to a temp directory
[05:37] navigate to the temp dir and run sudo unsquashfs -x
filesystem.squashfs
[05:37] renme squashfs-root directory to 15.10
[05:37] grab the same filesytem.squash file from the 16.04 and
perform the same operation
[05:37] copy the /usr/lib/ubiquity/plugins/ubi-prepare.py from
the 15.10 sub folder to the same loacation in the 16.04 folder.
[05:37] then run the following command on the 16.04 folder sudo
mksquashfs squashfs-root filesystem.squashfs -b 1024k -comp xz -Xbcj x86 -e boot
[05:37] make a std bootable 16.04 bootable usb and copy the new
filesystem.squashfs file to the /casper directory on the 16.04 iso.
[05:37] Install as usual.
[05:37] Not sure why, but when I make my squash file, it's ~300
to 400mb smaller than the original.
[05:37] Note: unsquashing and resquashing must be performed as
root on the 16.04 file to maintain correction permissions.

[Bug 1460325] Re: plasma desktop background doesn't resize when VMWare resizes

2015-08-27 Thread Marco Parillo
Does this still occur? I see Kubuntu now matches the original Fedora 22
KDE Spin:

apt-cache policy open-vm-tools-desktop
open-vm-tools-desktop:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2:9.10.2-2822639-1ubuntu3
  Version table:
 2:9.10.2-2822639-1ubuntu3 0

[Bug 1464330] [NEW] Release Upgrade Stalls on Kubuntu Upgrade to Wily

2015-06-11 Thread Marco Parillo
Public bug reported:

I get as far as my last screen shot
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WilyUpgrades/Kubuntu) and something
flashes something briefly about two downloads but then nothing seems to
happen.

[Bug 1460325] Re: plasma desktop background doesn't resize when VMWare resizes

2015-06-06 Thread Marco Parillo
I ran this from real HW (sorry, different computer this morning, so it
is not installed).

apt-cache policy open-vm-tools-desktop
open-vm-tools-desktop:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2:9.4.6-1770165-8ubuntu1
  Version table:
 2:9.4.6-1770165-8ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ wily/main i386 Packages

Do you know the equivalent command in Fedora? Perhaps there is a
different version of open-vm-tools-desktop there?

[Bug 1460325] Re: plasma desktop background doesn't resize when VMWare resizes

2015-06-06 Thread Marco Parillo
On Fedora 22 KDE Spin, Apper reports that open-vm-tools-desktop is 9.10.0-4.fc22
I wonder if Fedora's 9.10.0 is ahead of Ubuntu's 9.4.6 and this can be resolved
by packaging the newer release.

https://github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools/commit/f815ec597079716da64d51465f2a33c65427053b
seems to say that master stable is 9.10.0
