Sorry, my netbook had become totally unusable (the keyboard was unresponsive on specific websites, the CPU invariably between 85% and 100% aetc etc) and I couldn't afford waiting for another kernel release in the unlikely hope that this would resolve the matter. I simple made a fresh re-install of LXLE 14.04.4 with kernel 3.13.0-91 and things now work smoothly. And yes, the issue started after the upgrade. I didn't have any problems with the 12.04.
