[Bug 1947756] Re: indicator-cpufreq gtk

2021-11-13 Thread Mario Di Nicola
I was able to make the python script work by editing the following file:

/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/indicator_cpufreq/indicator.py

... and adding the following lines just below the comments that end on
line 17:

import gi
gi.require_version("Gtk", "3.0")
gi.require_version('AppIndicator3', '0.1')

[Bug 1857810] Re: osspd no longer works: ERR: failed to connect context, state=5 (Bad state)

2020-05-10 Thread Mario Di Nicola
You may not need to run pasuspender on some machines. My ASRock 970 MB
doesn't need pasuspender to work. However on my ideapad 320 the slave
will not open without pasuspender.

[Bug 1857810] Re: osspd no longer works: ERR: failed to connect context, state=5 (Bad state)

2020-05-10 Thread Mario Di Nicola
I have a workaround for this issue. First make sure that packages
pulseaudio-utils and osspd-alsa are installed, the run update-
alternatives and choose ossp-alsap as the option:

$ sudo update-alternatives --config ossp-slave

There are 2 choices for the alternative ossp-slave (providing
/usr/lib/osspd/ossp-slave).

  SelectionPath Priority Status

  0/usr/lib/osspd/ossp-padsp 70auto mode
* 1/usr/lib/osspd/ossp-alsap   60manual mode
  2/usr/lib/osspd/ossp-padsp 70manual mode

Then use pulseaudio utility pasuspender in-front of your program:

$ pasuspender /path/to/your/program

[Bug 1820088] Re: GIMP doesn't start in disco dev

2019-04-26 Thread Mario Di Nicola
I had libgegl-0.4-0 from Otto's PPA that was claiming to be newer than
the version in Disco. I used Synaptic to force downgrade to the Disco
version, now everything works fine. It could be this or you have an old
version of libgegl in /usr/local/bin from another install.

2019-04-14 Thread Mario Di Nicola
I have a similar problem with an Nvidia GeForce GT 730 card and the
Nouveau drivers. On kernel 5.0.0-8 everything is normal with a quick
boot time and the correct resolution of 1920x1080, however on 5.0.0-11
the system is very slow to boot and 1024x768 is the only resolution I
have.

My screen does lock when going to sleep, by I have gnome-screensaver
installed instead of xscreensaver. XFCE checks which screensaver you
have and calls that version prior to suspend for the lock screen. I have
this setup on my desktop and laptop, both work without issue.

[Bug 1431149] Re: XFCE 4.12 Black screen after wakeup from suspending by closing the laptop lid

2018-04-08 Thread Mario Di Nicola
I don't have light-locker installed, using GDM3 instead, and just
upgraded to Bionic, but this bug appears to have reared it's ugly head
again. The solution however of changing IgnoreLid to true in UPower.conf
clears up the problem. Hats off to piotr-wroclaw for figuring this out.

This solution also doesn't affect any of the other desktops I have
installed, which is Gnome 3 and Unity. All three desktops now suspend
and resume correctly as expected when closing the lid. Just remember to
reboot so the settings take affect.

[Bug 431091] Re: libstdc++5 removal breaks non-ubuntu applications

In the duplicate thread Sanjaya made a comment that the dell DRAC

support one of their chief partners products? Sounds very foolish to me
since Canonical would like to expand their markets into servers,
especially with Dell.

[Bug 431091] Re: libstdc++5 removal breaks non-ubuntu applications

2010-01-05 Thread Mario Di Nicola
That's very poor and arrogant answer about not support these libraries
since many commercial third party applications rely on them whether they
are ancient or not. By not including the libraries or having some
package available for them you're basically telling users to fend for
themselves or switch to a distro that has such support.

Ubuntu is not going to garner any commercial support if you refuse to
support commercial applications that use those libraries, it's that
simple. I expected this type of behavior from someone like Microsoft or
Adobe, but not from Ubuntu.

I'm also getting a kernel panic with the r8168 module on resume. The
solution was to add a file in /etc/pm/config.d/ with the following
contents:

SUSPEND_MODULES=r8168

Now the system doesn't cause a kernel panic, but getting the module to
reload automatically after resume is an issue. I made a small script in
/etc/pm/sleep.d to get it loaded and according to lsmod it's loaded, but
the interface isn't working. I have to manually remove and reload the
module to get the interface up again.

[Bug 160413] Re: Wake on LAN (WOL) not working with r8169 driver

2009-09-04 Thread Mario Di Nicola
@concertedrxn

Success!!! I have been able to suspend/resume without a kernel panic and
have the interface working. I reconfigured my script in /etc/pm/sleep.d
to instead start|stop networking services using pm-utils hooks (see
attached). This along with the suspend_modules file fixed the problem.

[Bug 236837] Re: Axel-kapt uses all memory and CPU resources

2009-05-15 Thread Mario Di Nicola
I justed updated to Jaunty then changed my desktop to Gnome and the
problem is actually worse. Without the patch the system basically goes
into a loop consuming all resources. I'm currently using an Intel 8500
Quad Core CPU and utilization goes to about 95% on all 4 cores. The
system becomes so unresponsive that X is completely useless and
switching to a terminal, logging in, and trying to kill kaptain is
literally at a snails pace.

With the patch everything seems to function as it should sans your
choice of terminals. I would suggest that the patch be introduced anyway
or the package pulled since the system lockup is now very severe.

[Bug 72609] Re: K3b temporarily ejects disk before verification

2008-05-29 Thread Mario Di Nicola
I have encountered this same issue using k3b in Hardy Heron x86_64.
After the write is complete, k3b commands the drive to eject the tray.
I'm only guessing it sends another command to load the tray so it can
begin verification. Unfortunately the tray fails to close. Loading the
tray manually has no effect. k3b at this time is frozen, driving the
CPU% between 50% and 100%, and will not respond to any mouse clicks. I
then have to kill k3b from within System Monitor.

I have the exact same problem using x86_64 Kubuntu Hardy.

[Bug 219285] Re: Hardy Heron: screen turns off, Xorg 100%

2008-05-25 Thread Mario Di Nicola
The system is still remotely accessible: the webserver is still OK, and
I can login using ssh (from another machine). It turns out Xorg is at
100% CPU load (see top below). I thought a sudo kill -9 pid of Xorg
would solve the problem, but that killed the remote SSH and HTTP access.
I then had to cold-boot the system using the power switch.

Having the exact same problem with my Kubuntu 64-bit install when coming
out of suspend mode but the difference is that I have a Nvidia GeForce
6200 using the restricted drivers and an AMD Athlon 3400+ processor.
Before I upgraded to Hardy under Gutsy suspend worked fine after adding
the nvidia parameter to the white-list in the /etc/default/acpi-
support file plus some other minor changes. I did purge the acpi-support
package then again added the nvidia parameters to the white-list again
with no success. The problem occurs with or without Compiz graphics
enabled.
