[Bug 868904] Re: Redshift fails to start with session due to geoclue failure
Thank you @Fred and @valent! This has been bugging me for ages. Though I lived with it by hardcoding my location, it was still really annoying when traveling. I prepared a debdiff for saucy adding a dependency on geoclue-hostip. But I also took a look for geoclue-ubuntu-geoip bugs and sure enough, I found LP bug 1239082 which seems to confirm that it is broken in general. So I'll upload this first debdiff, as adding a dependency on geoclue- hostip does solve the problem alone, and perhaps the ubuntu-geoip provider will be fixed later. ** Patch added: redshift.saucy.debdiff https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/redshift/+bug/868904/+attachment/3879553/+files/redshift.saucy.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/868904 Title: Redshift fails to start with session due to geoclue failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/redshift/+bug/868904/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 868904] Re: Redshift fails to start with session due to geoclue failure
Here's another debdiff with a patch to add the dependency _and_ change the default provider in source from #define DEFAULT_PROVIDER org.freedesktop.Geoclue.Providers.UbuntuGeoIP #define DEFAULT_PROVIDER_PATH /org/freedesktop/Geoclue/Providers/UbuntuGeoIP to: #define DEFAULT_PROVIDER org.freedesktop.Geoclue.Providers.Hostip #define DEFAULT_PROVIDER_PATH /org/freedesktop/Geoclue/Providers/Hostip I'm not sure this proves anything but I also noticed that UbuntuGeoIP is not on Freedesktop.org's list of providers: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/GeoClue/Providers/ Really, redshift should have some sort of dependency on a working provider regardless. geoclue-ubuntu-geoip was only there on Unity-based desktops because it happens to already be pulled in by indicator- datetime and unity-webapps-service. The dependency was always missing, it just happened to work as long as geoclue-ubuntu-geoip was there and still working. ** Patch added: redshift.saucy.chgdefault.debdiff https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/redshift/+bug/868904/+attachment/3879574/+files/redshift.saucy.chgdefault.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/868904 Title: Redshift fails to start with session due to geoclue failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/redshift/+bug/868904/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1067106] Re: possible to run out of space on /boot partition when installed using auto recipe full-disk-encryption
** Description changed: When choosing full disk encryption in the quantal version of Ubiquity, the resulting /boot partition seems small. In my test installation /boot came to 228MB. Here is the process I used: - download wget source - modify line in debian/rules to make udeb binary /usr/bin/wget (not wget.gnu) - build binaries - download d-i source - put new wget-udeb into build/localudebs - modified build/pkg-list/base to include wget-udeb (I'm told this was needless) - build binaries - install KVM machine using build/dest/netboot/mini.iso - drop to shell and confirm that calling `wget` runs GNU wget. - witness eventual failure retrieving packages (bsdutils is the first to fail every time. syslog below.) When I went back and did the same thing with a stock version of wget- udeb added, the install worked. Again, I dropped to shell and confirmed it was busybox responding to `wget`. This doesn't seem right. We know that debootstrap works fine with GNU wget. That's probably the most common way it's used. The other strange part is that only some of the packages fail to download; many others are retrieved just fine. ** Attachment added: syslog-wget-install.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wget/+bug/1172101/+attachment/3711461/+files/syslog-wget-install.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1172101 Title: wget-udeb should install to /usr/bin/wget instead of /usr/bin/wget.gnu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wget/+bug/1172101/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1172101] Re: wget-udeb should install to /usr/bin/wget instead of /usr/bin/wget.gnu
** Description changed: In the Ubuntu raring (13.04) version of wget, there is a wget-udeb which installs its binary executable to /usr/bin/wget.gnu. This is presumably done in order to not break any setups that depend on busybox's wget implementation. However, since the primary reason wget-udeb exists in Ubuntu (wget-udeb is not built in Debian afaik) is because of the lack of SSL support in d-i and busybox-wget, it seems logical (to me) that it should overwrite the busybox wget symlink. You're choosing to opt-in to GNU wget, so you're already rebuilding d-i/debian-cd and therefore know you're somewhat on your own. Unless there is a common use case I'm not considering where you want SSL support for something else, but somehow depend on the busybox - implementation of wget for all things apt. + implementation of wget for the debootstrap portion of the install. What I expect to happen: 1) modify d-i source to include wget-udeb 2) rebuild d-i and point my sources to HTTPS repositories 3) install Ubuntu without fear of the traffic being snooped in transit What happens instead: 1) modify d-i source to include wget-udeb 2) rebuild d-i and point sources to HTTPS repositories 3) install fails because d-i calls /usr/bin/wget which points to busybox (which has no SSL support) Thanks for your time! [Bug 1172101] Re: wget-udeb should install to /usr/bin/wget instead of /usr/bin/wget.gnu

[Bug 857983] Re: The Pointing Devices menu item is missing after upgrading to Oneiric
@seb128, Thanks! I understand the hesitation on quantal, but yes, I'd still like to see this change in q as well. Due to the shortened support cycle of raring there are commercial accounts (particularly the one that raised this issue with me) that will want to stay with quantal longer than they would have previously. Public bug reported: Xaw-based X apps don't work well with the launcher in Unity. Tested on raring, quantal, and precise; same results in each case. Steps to reproduce: --- - Launch affected app (xcalc, xeyes, xclock, x3270, xsysinfo, etc) from dash or terminal. - The icon will appear in the launcher and respond as expected. - Right-click on launcher icon and choose Lock to Launcher. - The icon will now jump to the top of your launcher, becoming the first app icon under the Ubuntu button. - Close app. - Click launcher icon to relaunch app. It will glow like it's going to launch, but never does. - Launch app again from dash or terminal. - A second (identical) icon will appear in launcher. ** Affects: bamf (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1089034 Title: bamfdaemon doesn't handle Xaw-based apps correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bamf/+bug/1089034/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 857983] Re: The Pointing Devices menu item is missing after upgrading to Oneiric
This also leads the icon to not show up or work properly in the Unity launcher. It comes up with a generic question mark icon. If you right-click and attempt to lock it to the launcher, it will jump to the top of the list by itself. If you then quit the program and try to run it from the pinned icon, it will fail to launch entirely (though the icon will glow as if it's going to launch). I tested on quantal, but the result should be the same for precise and raring (identical source packages and therefore .desktop files). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/857983 Title: The Pointing Devices menu item is missing after upgrading to Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpointing-device-settings/+bug/857983/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Unfortunately this doesn't work for x3270 using the following .desktop file: $ cat /usr/share/applications/ibm-3270-emulator.desktop [Desktop Entry] Name=IBM 3270 Terminal Emulator Comment=Terminal connection to IBM mainframes using 3270 emulation Exec=/usr/bin/x3270 Terminal=false Icon=ibm-3270-emulator Type=Application Categories=Network;X-ibm-terminal; Not sure why they would be any different. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1089034 Title: bamfdaemon doesn't handle Xaw-based apps correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bamf/+bug/1089034/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1077095] [NEW] Please blacklist IBM Notes

[Bug 929635] Re: [snb-m-gt2] Blank screen after login or after connecting second monitor
Hey Joe, Good news! It looks like the fix is there. I installed the kernel above (note: on quantal) and tested: a few boots and more than a few attach reattach sequences. Everything worked perfectly. [Bug 929635] Re: [snb-m-gt2] Blank screen after login or after connecting second monitor
Although now I see that I'm getting an occasional flicker on the external display (with normal quantal). Sometimes 1 minute apart, sometimes longer. No log entry. [Bug 929635] Re: [snb-m-gt2] Blank screen after login or after connecting second monitor
Hi Joe. I worked around my issues last cycle by switching to a 1920x1200 external monitor (worked around blank screen after lightdm) and the attach-reattach issue by switching to VGA (from HDMI). But since you asked, I went back and checked again on quantal (i.e. back to the 2048x1152 and HDMI). Looks good! Works in general, and attach- reattach works perfectly so far. Do you need help trying to determine what could be SRU'd to precise? Or would this fall under go to the enablement stack ? The only real issue I have left is the fact that if I boot with the external display attached, that's the only display that will work at all. But that's LP #946311. @Dennis, I think, the mode set issue on Ivy Bridge is a separate issue. I would file a new bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/929635 Title: [snb-m-gt2] Blank screen after login or after connecting second monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/929635/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1068889] [NEW] nscd should not cache netgroups by default
Public bug reported: Netgroup caching is a rather new feature of nscd. It only entered the eglibc source tree late last year and the first upstream release of nscd to include netgroup caching was on March 21, 2012 [1]. Thus, it's is a feature that is not likely deployed at any significant scale anywhere currently. And so it has poor general test coverage. We have reports that this feature either segfaults nscd [1] or that even when it doesn't crash, the feature still doesn't work [2]. The enabled setting is inherited from upstream, but I think at least for precise, we should default to disabled.
