[Bug 1971168] Re: [snap] Files on local network shares are not opened / written

2024-07-06 Thread Markus W
Re #103
Just tested the new package from proposed together with Firefox 127.0.2. Things
appear to work just as expected now and I can no longer reproduce the issue.
Haven't found any side-effects in other places either so far.

Looks like this is now finally fixed in 22.04 with only a few weeks left
before the upgrade to 24.04 rolls out ;)

[Bug 1971168]

2022-05-11 Thread Markus W
(In reply to Al Savage from comment #6)
> [...] it may not be limited to FF, snaps, or even Mozilla, since my Chrome
> install behaves similarly.

You are right, this is actually affecting other applications, too. I get
the exact same behavior described in the steps to reproduce when using
Chromium installed via snap: Local files open fine, opening files on
network shares does not trigger any reaction.

Should this issue here remain open?

[Bug 1971168] Re: [snap] Downloaded files not saved when saving to local network share

2022-05-09 Thread Markus W
I've updated the bug to reflect that multiple applications are affected
by this. On my system I can reproduce the issue with Firefox and
Chromium, both installed via snap.

** Also affects: snapd (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce:

- 1. Run Firefox as a Snap package in Ubuntu 22.04
+ 1. Run Firefox or Chromium as a Snap package in Ubuntu 22.04
  2. Have a SMB file server available where the network shares can be mounted
just by clicking on the share in Nautilus file manager (smb:// protocol,
usually mounted dynamically via `/var/run/user/.../gvfs/...`)
  3. Have one such share mounted and writable
- 4. Open any website containing images in Firefox
+ 4. Open any website containing images in Firefox / Chromium
  5. Right-click on an image and select "Save Image As..."
  6. In the file save dialog, navigate to the mounted share
  7. Assert content of network share is visible and browsable from within the
save dialog
  8. Select "Save" at any folder in the network share

  Actual behavior:

  * File is not saved to selected network share location
  * No download entry is created
  * No error is shown

  Expected behavior:

  * File is saved to selected network share location
  * No error is shown

  Additional information:

  * When saving to a folder on the local machine instead, saving works
correctly as expected
  * In contrast to files, new folders that are created from within the save
dialog are saved correctly on the network share
+ * Similar situation when trying to open a file with Ctrl + O on a network
share from Firefox / Chromium. After double-clicking e.g. an image file in the
file dialog, the file dialog closes but nothing happens otherwise. Opening an
image on a local folder works fine.

** Summary changed:

- [snap] Downloaded files not saved when saving to local network share
+ [snap] Files on local network shares are not opened / written

[Bug 1933996] Re: Alt-tab stops switching windows [JS ERROR: TypeError: window is null _createWindowClone@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/altTab.js:29:27]

2021-10-01 Thread Markus W
This bug should be fixed with
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/2003
I cannot reproduce the issue anymore when this change is applied on my system.

Can someone initiate that this fix is backported into Ubuntu 21.04?

[Bug 1847570] Re: PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login

2019-11-09 Thread Markus W
One additional aspect to note is that some desktop monitors reconnect to
the system when returning from power-save mode. In my case the sound
selection is changed to HDMI/DisplayPort whenever this happens. Changing
the sound setting back 10+ times a day is extremely annoying.

`Alt + Shift` was set by default with the (in my case) upgrade to 18.04. I
never set this alternative shortcut myself and there is no way to change it
without additional tools. In fact, the entire bug report is about this
alternative shortcut being an issue with the current default value.

[Bug 1762952] Re: Switching backwards between applications with Alt + Shift + Tab not possible when using multiple keyboard input methods

2018-04-23 Thread Markus W
There is another aspect to this issue: It also becomes impossible to
execute application-level keyboard shortcuts that contain Alt + Shift,
such as `Alt + Shift + R`.

What is actually executed: Alt + R and Input method is switched

What should have executes: Alt + Shift + R and Input method is unchanged

It really needs to be possible to remove or change the `Alternative switch to
next source` hotkey `Alt + Shift`.

[Bug 1762952] [NEW] Switching backwards between applications with Alt + Shift + Tab not possible when using multiple keyboard input methods

2018-04-11 Thread Markus W
Public bug reported:

Version: Ubuntu 18.04 Final Beta with default Gnome Shell included in
18.04

Steps to reproduce:
1. Define two keyboard input methods in Settings -> Region & Language -> Input
Sources
2. Open several applications
3. Observe that application windows can be iterated with Alt + Tab
4. Once application window iteration was begun with Alt + Tab, try to iterate
backwards with Alt + Shift + Tab.
5. Try to change keyboard input method switching hotkeys in Settings -> Region
& Language -> Input Sources -> Options.
6. Observe that Keyboard shortcut for "Alternative switch to next source" is
set to "Alt + Shift" and that keyboard shortcuts can only be changed in
Settings -> Devices -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts.
7. Observe that the shortcut for "Alternative switch to next source" is not
available for configuration in Settings -> Devices -> Keyboard -> Keyboard
Shortcuts.

Actual state:
* Performing step 4 does not select the previous app in application switcher
but instead changes keyboard input method.

Expected state:
* The shortcut for "Alternative switch to next source" can be changed and / or
deactivated in Settings -> Devices -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts.

Notes:
* The above was working fine in Ubuntu 17.10. I assume "Alternative switch to
next source" did not exist in that version of Gnome Shell.

[Bug 1579543] Re: Firefox 46 is missing network shares in file selector

2016-05-09 Thread Markus W
An interesting observation I made is that accessing the network share
itself still works.

For example, Firefox rembers per domain which folder the last download
from a site was saved to. So, for a domain where I previously saved to a
network share, I am still able to save to and navigate within a share
when I start a new download for one of these domains. However, once I
browse to a local location, I cannot return to the network share using
the UI.

[Bug 1579543] [NEW] Firefox 46 is missing network shares in file selector

2016-05-08 Thread Markus W
Public bug reported:

Expected behavior:
Firefox file selection windows show network shares mounted via Nautilus (i.e.
gvfs SMB mounts).

Actual behavior:
File selection window only shows local folders.

dialog is shown).
* Observe the locations shortcuts offered in the left side of the selection
window.

Version information:
* Vanilla Ubuntu Firefox package with Firefox 46.0.
