[Bug 1910981] [NEW] USB Keyboard Settings (Repeat rate and delay) Reset After Resume From Sleep

2021-01-11 Thread Mart
Public bug reported:

When using a USB keyboard, my custom Repeat Keys delay/speed settings
are lost when my laptop restarts or resumes from sleep/hibernation.

A temporary fix is to toggle repeat keys off and on again in the setting
dialog, but this only lasts for the current session.

Laptop: Apple Macbook Pro Mid 2014 running Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
Keyboard: Filco Majestictouch 2

[Bug 427168] Re: usb keyboard settings (repeat rate and delay) reset on plugin

2020-11-12 Thread Mart
I am also experiencing this bug on 20.04.1 LTS.

As with the previous comment, the internal keyboard of the laptop works
correctly with the delay/speed settings I've set. However my primary
keyboard, a USB keyboard, loses the delay/speed settings once the laptop
restarts or resumes from sleep/hibernation.

I can confirm that toggling repeat keys off and on again fixes the issue
temporarily for the current session.

I had the exact same problem and error reports (as the OP above) a
couple of weeks ago.

Running sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite
/var/cache/apt/archives/libuhd3.14.0_3.14.0.0-0ubuntu1~xenial1_amd64.deb
seems to have fixed it.

It is likely I suppose.

I also tried to uninstall "libvdpau1", but it didn't actually improve
anything.

I don't exactly have the one you described, but I do have
"libvdpau1:amd64" installed, it seems. Could removing that help?

As for changing output... To what? There's quite a few to choose from.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/dcguz4a22khrhs6/IMG_20160212_202436.jpg?dl=0
I hope it's unrelated, but my printscreen button doesn't work either (which is
why I took the picture with my phone).

2016-02-12 Thread Mart
By the way, just tried SMPlayer and had the same result. I don't know if
it helps at all.

Most videos work OK with the default player, but VLC seems to be the
only one (of the 3 mentioned here, at least) capable of not lagging
behind on the 4K video I just downloaded.

2016-02-11 Thread Mart
I forgot to add that I originally installled VLC through apt
sudo apt-get install vlc
when I had the problem, I uninstalled it and tried through Ubuntu Software
Center and the problem stayed the same.

I also tried to install
sudo apt-get install vlc-plugin-*
but it didn't help.

It isn't on top if there's no video playing.

[Bug 1537053] Re: vlc screen always on top, buggly.

2016-02-11 Thread Mart
I have exactly the same problem.

vlc --version:
VLC media player 2.1.6 Rincewind (revision 2.1.6-0-gea01d28)
VLC version 2.1.6 Rincewind (2.1.6-0-gea01d28)
Compiled by buildd on brownie.buildd (Mar 26 2015 02:41:27)
Compiler: gcc version 4.8.2 (Ubuntu 4.8.2-19ubuntu1)

I have a freshly installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
uname -a:
Linux mart-laptop-ubuntu 3.19.0-49-generic #55~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 22
11:24:31 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have a locally branded laptop, here are the specs (Estonian link
http://www.ordi.ee/EPood/Product.aspx?Query=i414CS+plus&ItemID=9920-2063&MC=ARVUTID&IC=9920):
Intel Core i3-6100U, 8GB DDR3, 14,0" FHD IPS, SSD 240GB, Intel VGA HD 520

As the video Mr Chen took shows, VLC is always on top, even the right
click menu gets hidden behind it.

I hope this gets fixed as I don't feel like moving to another
video/media player.

In addition, I've been having trouble updating my kernel. The process
fails in some way and when I do a restart, I am unable to use any kind
of input for the latest kernel. Neither the keyboard nor the mouse work.

The old kernel continues to work without problems other than this one,
though.

[Bug 1339939]

2014-07-14 Thread Mart
Hi,

I'm hitting this reliably on every resume on 3.15.5. (libdrm 2.4.54, mesa

relevant dmesg output :
juil. 11 17:28:23 Nemmerle kernel: [drm:i965_irq_handler] *ERROR* pipe B

Kwin crashes really bad after this happens...

Not sure if the pipe B underrun is related, as that happens even without
resuming.
This is on :

If I can help in any way, let me know...

[Bug 992070] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 hangs after lock screen appears from screen off

2012-05-01 Thread Mart van Ineveld
I tried to collect the desired info with the above command, but because I am
not the orginal reporter Launchpad does not allow me to report
The problem occurs however after the screen was locked (and shortly after
unlocking, for instance if clicking with the mouse or changing to another
workspace).
The behavior is fairly unpredictable, with one common denominator: the display
flickrs, and the GUI won't react anymore or very, very slowlly, and sooner or
later stops completely. A hard reset of the machine is neccesary. Even
ctrl+alt+del doesn work anymore.

[Bug 874293] Re: Spyder color 3 not being connected (USB)

2011-11-09 Thread Mart van Ineveld
I can confirm it's a problem with libmtp. From the argyll devloper:
"This libmtp opens every USB device to see if it is a "media" device.
This upsets the Spyder3."

The workaround is therefore simple: I removed libmtp from my system with
synaptic (as a result I lost banshee too), and since then Spyder3 is
working like before with ArgyllCMS on Ubuntu 11.10 (both 64/32 bits).

Of course libmtp should behave differently for a structural solution.

[Bug 887660] [NEW] Evolution keeps asking for my Google Calendar account passwords

2011-11-08 Thread Mart van Ineveld
Public bug reported:

While working on Ubuntu, Evolution keeps popping up a dialog for
entering the Google Calendar passwords (I use three calendar accounts
for me, my wife etc). This allthough Evolution should remember my
password. Closing Evolutiond does not help: the dialog keeps popping up
(several times a minute sometimes).

[Bug 874293] Re: Spyder color 3 not being connected (USB)

2011-11-08 Thread Mart van Ineveld
I used Spyder3 successfully in Ubuntu 11.04, buit it indeed isn working
anymore in 11.10. I use the fine ArgyllCMS software. I both tried
version 1.3.3 and 1.3.5 (64 bits and 32 bits on two different computers
with 11.10).

Just for the record my experience. I issue the command
$dispcal -yl -r -D5

[Bug 671923] [NEW] In XScreensaver unlock screen it is not possible to insert "€" sign

2010-11-06 Thread Mart Mangus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xscreensaver

When trying to unlock the screen (locked by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del or
coming from suspend/hibernate) XScreensaver asks for user password. But
in password field it is not possible to insert "€" sign (any other input
is showing one more "*" in password field). So, when user's password is
including "€" sign, then it is not possible to unlock the screen!

Using Estonian keyboard and "€" sign comes with keys AltGr+e and it
works in all other programs.

[Bug 554172] Re: CUPS and other system services not starting at boot

2010-07-28 Thread Mart van Ineveld
I have the latest kernel:
Linux version 2.6.32-24-generic (bui...@yellow) (gcc version 4.4.3 (Ubuntu
4.4.3-4ubuntu5) ) #38-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 5 09:20:59 UTC 2010

This version worsened the bug. Before cups randomly refused to start, but now
it never starts at boot time.
Further symptoms that apply to the same behaviour (these symptoms only now and
then occurred in the previous kernel, and now always):
- sound system is not working either
- Trying to reboot from Gnome does not work: the login screen is displayed.
Rebooting with "sudo reboot" works fine.

I have a SSD installed, and I suspect that that might be part of the
problem (the fast boot time).

[Bug 241307] Re: [Geode SC] [DBE60] kernels >= 2.6.22 fail to boot [A20 interrupt]

2010-07-15 Thread Mart Raudsepp
If the non-booting happens in combination with etherboot netboot, as found on
the DBE60 BIOS, then the problem of non-booting ever since 2.6.23 (perhaps
including 2.6.22 in some cases?) is probably related to some low-level loader
work in 2.6.23 (involving also the A20 code) in combination with the mknbi
created loader code or something along those lines.
If the tftp payload if created with WrapLinux instead of mknbi, we have seen
working fine boot of vanilla 2.6.34 kernel on DBE60.

A user found out that:
"Not 100% sure about the cause, but at least mkelf-linux of OpenSUSE mknbi
package seemed to hardcode the (empty) initrd option to the image, that stopped
the 2.6.22 kernel to start. Workaround was to give empty initramfs cpio file
upon image creation, but I found WrapLinux not to have this "effect" and used
it successfully instead..." - http://wiki.thincan.org/Talk:DBE60

Perhaps WrapLinux can be tested, and/or the mentioned workaround.

2010-03-24 Thread Arlen Christian Mart Cuss
I'm going to go ahead and take away the opinion I had of this some three

much more useful than whatever Bochs come up with themselves.

chilicuil; is there some overriding reason you can't use gdb to debug it
instead? As William says (said), they're mutually incompatible, so I
guess Debian made the decision to let bochs users use gdb to debug
instead.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 353933] Re: Bubbles appear on top of panel when using twinview

I can confirm the problem Jake is having, the problem still lies in the
fact that the panel on his right screen isn't detected properly. To fix
this issue I propose the following patch, that determines whether a
panel is a top panel not by looking at it's x and y positions relative
to the entire screen but relative to a particular monitor.

Thanks for your response.

The clock applet once and awhile froze my desktop (that is: the panel),

I think it has something to do with the contents of the clock applet
dropdown (locations or tasks or something. Maybe a connection to some
server is too slow and the applet is freezing the panel?). I saw on the
internet that I am not the only one with this kind of experience.

The last couple of weeks I experienced no problems however. But I do not
feel comfortable yet about this one issue.

[Bug 204775] Re: selecting gnome panel intlclock causes top bar and many other things to not respond

2008-07-14 Thread Mart van Ineveld
This same bug occured on my Ubuntu system (8.04). It was gone for a couple of
months (weeks?). But now it is back suddenly. I always apply the lates updates
to my system.
If I click on the Clock applet, the desktop freezes. It can be solved bij
opening a terminal (for instance with Ctrl+Alt+F2), and killing the gnome-panel
process. After refreshing the panels on the original desktop everything works
fine again.
It seems that one of the most recent updates reintroduced this bug?

If you want more information, please let me know.

[Bug 236828] [NEW] Gnome desktop freezes with desktop applet

2008-06-02 Thread Mart van Ineveld
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I clicked on the Clock applet, the Gnome desktop froze when Evolution was
running.
Now I clicked it (the Clock applet) without Evolution, and then a dialog
appeared asking me if the application was allowed access to the Google Calendar
password in the keyring. I accepted "Always allow", and since then clicking on
the Clock applet shows the calendar like it should have before.

2008-04-14 Thread Arlen Christian Mart Cuss
Perfect!

Well, almost. No screens appear - I believe this is because I also
*happen* to be suffering from (proposed) bug 216696 - i.e. X detects no
monitors as being available. I'm hoping it's not a complicating factor.

Either way, given these packages gnome-display-properties no longer
crashes, and appears to work fine (given the situation).

Thank you! :)

[Bug 216696] [NEW] failing to detect available resolutions, cannot use proper ones (regressed)

2008-04-13 Thread Arlen Christian Mart Cuss
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Hi there,

This appears to be a regression in the latest hardy. All was working
well, I upgraded (~400 packages). My monitor's maximal resolution is
1680x1050, which I used. Post-upgrade, it's now at 1280x768. Due to an
unrelated[?] problem, I can't even open gnome-display-properties to
change it, but querying xrandr gives this:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 768, maximum 1280 x 1200
VGA-0 disconnected 1280x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm
x 0mm
DVI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
S-video disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  1280x768 (0x50) 80.1MHz
h: width 1280 start 1344 end 1480 total 1680 skew0 clock 47.7KHz
v: height 768 start 769 end 772 total 795 clock 60.0Hz

The monitor is attached by DVI. xrandr says otherwise, which is curious.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200]
(rev 01)
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200]
(Secondary) (rev 01)

Attaching X logs. It appears confused about the (non-)presence of the
output devices.

[Bug 216676] [NEW] gnome-display-properties crashed on opening with SIGSEGV in rw_mode_get_width()

2008-04-13 Thread Arlen Christian Mart Cuss
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I recently upgraded to the latest hardy - beforehand all was working
well; using `radeon' kernel module for my ATI card. Post-upgrade, the
screen resolution changed to 1280x768 (from 1680x1024 or thereabouts -
widescreen monitor). So, I went to gnome-display-properties.. but it
segfaulted. At first, I imagined this to be quite similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-desktop/+bug/204872, but
I am using the latest as was suggested to be the fix (1:2.22.1-0ubuntu5
is the version I'm running). Also, I'm using an ATI card as opposed to
NVidia. compiz was enabled when I started out; disabling does not fix.

gnome-control-center 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu2
libgnome-desktop-2 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu5

Anything else? This seems to be quite a problem.

[Bug 204872] Re: gnome-display-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in rw_screen_list_outputs()

2008-04-13 Thread Arlen Christian Mart Cuss
Hi. Where/how can we get this latest version, 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu5? The
pool appears to have only 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 as far as I can see, but it
may be that I don't know where to look.

This problem's just run into me as I recently upgraded my hardy install.
I'm using ATI, however! Any ideas?

[Bug 125302] Re: kvm-ifup fails to bring up tap0 in feisty

2008-02-01 Thread Arlen Christian Mart Cuss
I had a similar problem (Gutsy/AMD64, 2.6.22-14-generic, kvm
1:16-1ubuntu2), in that tap0 wasn't visible (ifconfig -a) on my host,
and kvm reported "can't add tap0 to bridge eth1: Operation not
supported" when starting.

However, after my host finished booting and everything network related
had finished initializing, tap0 had appeared, and I can configure them
both to communicate without issue.

[Bug 175942] Re: rhytmbox never starts up the first time

2007-12-13 Thread Mart van Ineveld
I started rhythmbox as a command in bash, and it neither showed up with
a window, nor crashed. No activity could be noticed. The system monitor
showed rhythmbox as a sleeping process.

After terminating the process with Ctrl+C, i inspected /var/crash, but there
was no rhythmbox file te be seen (totem seems to have crashed some time):
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rhythmbox
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -a /var/crash
  . .. _usr_bin_totem.1000.crash

So, thereafter i started rhythmbox again from bash, but two times, as follows:
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rhythmbox&
  [1] 7322
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rhythmbox
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$
  ( rhythmbox:7322): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_container_foreach: assertion
`GTK_IS_CONTAINER (container)' failed

  (rhythmbox:7322): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_container_foreach: assertion
`GTK_IS_CONTAINER (container)' failed

  (rhythmbox:7322): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_container_foreach: assertion
`GTK_IS_CONTAINER (container)' failed

  (rhythmbox:7322): Gtk-WARNING **: ShowWindowTray: missing action
TrayShowWindow

  (rhythmbox:7322): Gtk-WARNING **: ShowNotifications: missing action
TrayShowNotifications

  [1]+ Donerhythmbox
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

The second instance of rhythmbox showed up as expected in a normal window. The
first instance never showed any activity, but stopped "executing" after closing
the second instance in a normal way, as shown above.
There was again no crash file to be seen in /var/crash (did not know this
directory existed, very helpfull information)

Hope this helps.

[Bug 131615] Cannot increase backlight to full brightness

2007-08-10 Thread Mart
Public bug reported:

I cannot increase the backlight on my Acer 5102WMLi laptop to full
brightness.

The brightness of the backlight appears to stop at approximately 50%,
although this is just a guess. If you increase the brightness during the
boot process, you can successfully reach full backlight brightness and
it will stay like this as long as you do not attempt to increase or
decrease the backlight brightness. If you do try to increase or decrease
the backlight brightness, the backlight immediately changes to
approximately 50%. The only way to get back to full backlight brightness
is to reboot the laptop and increase the brightness back to full
brightness during the boot process.

Steps to reproduce:

- Boot Ubuntu (Gutsy Tribe 4 or Feisty, although may also affect earlier
releases)
- Hold the Fn (Function) key and press the 'Increase brightness' key multiple
times. Notice that the brightness of the backlight only increases slightly and
you are unable to reach full brightness.

Also note:

- Once the '50% brightness' limit is reached and you attempt to increase
the brightness further, the backlight flickers as if the 'value' for the
brightness of the backlight is being set again rather than ignored.

[Bug 88426] Re: kmenuedit does not save changes.

2007-05-08 Thread Mart
I am happy to announce that I have managed to fix this bug! ;)

Problem: kmenuedit does not save newly created desktop menu items.

Cause: The directory which holds the user .desktop files
(~/.local/share/applications) is owned by the root user and group after
a fresh installation of Kubuntu Feisty Fawn Final. This directory should
be owned by the user, not root.

Solution (Fix): The temporary fix is the following command in a console: "sudo
chown -R : ~/.local/share/applications"
should be replaced with the system usern/group name of the current
system user and also note the colon trailing immediately afterwards. If your
system user/group name is Mart (as in my case), the command would be: sudo
chown -R mart: ~/.local/share/applications
The command sets both the user and group ownership of the
~/.local/share/applications directory to your system user and group
respectively. This command must be ran as root so triple-check the command is
correct before executing it!

The permanent fix is to have the ~/.local/share/applications directory
user and group ownership set to the system user and group respectively
on a fresh installation of Kubuntu Feisty Fawn.

Notes: ~/.local/share/mime is also owned by root. Although this doesn't
effect this bug, it might be causing other problems. Should the mime
directory also be owned by the system user/group?

[Bug 88426] Re: kmenuedit does not save changes.

2007-05-08 Thread Mart
We are experiencing this bug on all our Kubuntu Feisty Fawn machines.

Our temporary fix is using desktop shortcuts but we eagerly await a fix.
The importance of this bug is fairly high for us as it is effecting the
productivity of day-to-day tasks.

I have made the following observations:

- Folders are saved but items are not.
- After a name is specified for a new item, it is immediately lost.
- Running kmenuedit as root (via sudo) appears to save the items for the root
user.

Does kmenuedit read the name from the newly-created .desktop item? If so
it probably suggests that the .desktop item isn't being created at all
for non-root users. Could this be a permission problem?
