[Bug 1841148] Re: Kernel 4.15.0-58 breaks Intel Ethernet Connection for I219-V and 82579V using e1000e driver

2020-01-21 Thread Martijn Brinkers
It looks like the bug was reintroduced in release 4.15.0-71.80. If I
revert to version 4.15.0-70-generic the network connection is stable
again. With newer releases my network connection constantly drops
(similar to the initial bug report).

According to release notes for 4.15.0-71.80 some changes to e1000e were
applied:

 * Add Intel Comet Lake ethernet support (LP: #1848555)
- e1000e: Add support for Comet Lake

[Bug 1841148] Re: Kernel 4.15.0-58 breaks Intel Ethernet Connection for I219-V and 82579V using e1000e driver

2019-08-26 Thread Martijn Brinkers
According to changelog for linux_4.15.0-58.64 the following changes were
applied for "Intel ethernet I219":

  * Intel ethernet I219 has slow RX speed (LP: #1836152)
- SAUCE: e1000e: add workaround for possible stalled packet
- SAUCE: e1000e: disable force K1-off feature

  * Intel ethernet I219 may wrongly detect connection speed as 10Mbps
(LP: #1836177)
- SAUCE: e1000e: Make watchdog use delayed work

http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/l/linux/linux_4.15.0-58.64/changelog

I cannot find kernel version 4.15.0-56 on 18.04. I do however assume
that these fixes are also included with 4.15.0-58.

2017-12-19 Thread Martijn Brinkers
I have a similar problem on Ubuntu 14.04. The only workaround that works
was the one provided by "Alexander Stohr", i.e., install openntpd (which
failes), then remove the symlink /usr/sbin/openntpd -> ntpd and then
reinstall openntpd.

v3.5-rc6-quantal hangs at the startup screen. However switching back and

fixes the wait and allows you to login immediately.

Some problem but in my case with a freshly installed Ubuntu 12.04 using

I right-click and select Update manager again nothing happens. I can

Some more information.

I could not start the update manager from Dash either. If I clicked the
update manager from Dash, nothing happened.

update-manager was actually somewhere in the background:

$ sudo ps aux | grep update

/usr/bin/python /usr/bin/update-manager --no-focus-on-map

After killing the update-manager process I was able to start the update
manager from Dash.

I get similar crashes with evolution in Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid.

When I startup evolution and open my contacts I get the message

The Evolution address book has quit unexpectedly.
Your contacts for file:///home/martijn/.evolution/addressbook/local/system will

If I restart evolution the contacts seem to be accessible but when I try

[Bug 334851] Re: Evolution contacts crashes upon first access

2009-02-26 Thread Martijn Brinkers
It's probably caused by a lot of factors :)

I had a system crash with Ubuntu 8.10 and reinstalled Ubuntu 8.10. I did
however managed to make a copy of the .evolution directory which I tried to
restore. Somehow evolution kept on complaining that the database was corrupt so
I removed all indexes and folders.db. Evolution reindex the mbox files and
regenerated a folders.db. There are still a few problems left like crashing
contacts.
The evolution data was imported previously from an machine upgraded from Ubuntu
7.10.

before my system crash evolution was working fine

[Bug 270461] Re: Alpha-5 alternate installer fails

2008-12-19 Thread Martijn Brinkers
Same problem here. The same system installed 7.10 and 8.04 without any
problem.

[Bug 306003] [NEW] smartctl short test hangs at 90%

2008-12-07 Thread Martijn Brinkers
Public bug reported:

It seems that after upgrading to 8.04 smartctl short test seems to hang
at 90% (ie it never finishes).

The following test hangs at 90%:

sudo smartctl -t short /dev/sda

Output from smartcrl -a /dev/sda

Self-test execution status:  ( 249) Self-test routine in progress...
90% of test remaining.

according to this report
http://smartmontools.markmail.org/message/afuajgivzxhjjgzd?q=test+90%25
a recent kernel fixed it

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 179150] Re: error when opening the K3b program: System locale charset is ANSI_X3.4-1968

2008-05-07 Thread Martijn Brinkers
I did a clean install of Hardy (realeased version) and experience
similar problems.

For example running man:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc$ man ifconfig
man: can't set the locale; make sure $LC_* and $LANG are correct

locale command returns

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc$ locale
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=en_US.UTF-8
LC_TIME=en_DK.UTF8
LC_COLLATE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8
LC_PAPER=en_US.UTF-8
LC_NAME=en_US.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=en_US.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=en_US.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_US.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

I have reconfigured/reinstalled locale but that did not work.

2008-05-07 Thread Martijn Brinkers
installing language-pack-en seems to have fixed it. Somehow no
language pack was installed.

[Bug 147798] Re: kernel general protection fault when copying a lot of files over Samba

2007-12-01 Thread Martijn Brinkers
The crash seems related to a network driver and 4 GB of memory.

See http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/6/25/356

Seems to be 'fixed' in newer kernels

[Bug 172419] Re: firefox freezes and turns gray

2007-11-28 Thread Martijn Brinkers
I have been plagued with this bug as well. Firefox grayed out almost constantly
when I opened new windows. At first I thought is was caused by Flash but
disabling flash didn't solve it. After disabling all Firefox add-ons I noticed
that Firefox worked without any flaws. I discovered that as long as I do NOT
enable the Google bar add-on Firefox is stable again. The add-ons I have
enabled are Flash, Webdeveloper, Addblock and Ubufox.
I am not sure if this is actually a bug in the Google add-on or that there is
some other bug floating around that just happens to be 'activated' on my system
when I have enabled the Google bar add-on but I can reproduce the problem any
time I enable the Google bar add-on.
