[Bug 2000001] Re: Wifi 5/6 dropped randomly if ipv6 is enabled - Bug dhcp6!!!

2024-04-27 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
I really need to ask:

Have you narrowed down which package causes the issue? If yes, can you
please un-tag packages that are unrelated to the issue?

If you're just generally commenting on the relevance of enabling IPv6 on
standard Ubuntu installations, tagging all packages that perform network
configuration is the wrong approach.

[Bug 1945645] Re: cups-pdf prints blank pages

2021-10-02 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Thanks. That confirms my suspicions.

Debian already has a patch for CUPS-PDF (pending import into Ubuntu)
that removes the warning about deprecated Ghostscript options.

However, it seems that Ghostscript 9.54 brought in even more unexpected
changes that somehow break CUPS-PDF. This will require additional
investigation.

Till, the last changes at Debian only make Ghostscript's warning about
deprecated options disappear. As far as I can tell, either Ghostscript
or CUPS are the cause. See Debian #990210.

[Bug 1089115] Re: updated cups-pdf generates only a one page blank pdf

2021-05-01 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
This report seems to involve upgrading from an older release that used
the old PPD file. The package's maintainer scripts do not attempt to
automatically change the PPD to the new one. This must be done manually
as per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-
pdf/+bug/1236120/comments/12

[Bug 1772588] Re: Remove obsolete X11 drivers from the archive

2020-04-06 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Good. Just to emphasize, Geode doesn't make sense on distros where the
base level for i386 is 686-PAE, since none of the Geodes have PAE (most
Geodes are i586, except for Geode LX which is 686 without PAE).

Re: [Bug 1772588] Re: Remove obsolete X11 drivers from the archive

2020-04-03 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
As I have previously commented, the geode driver is NOT obsolete. It
should not be removed at Debian, where i386 is still 686 without PAE.

Please ammend the Debian bug report accordingly.

[Bug 873942]

2018-08-11 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Thanks for the patch.

This does a fair job of avoiding an explicit crash whenever DDC is
unavailable.

When that happens, restricting available modes to those that AMD
considers safe i.e. Panel-friendly modes, is indeed a promising
strategy.

However, that strategy doesn't guarantee that the selected mode is
something that the connected VGA monitor can handle. It's a shot in the
dark and the mode we try, 1920x1440, is a large enough size (and an
uncommon enough resolution) that we cannot consider that shot in the
dark to be a safe one.

Thinking out loud, 800x600, 1024x768 or 1280x1024 would probably be
safer modes to attempt whenever DDC is unavailable, pretty much in that
order.

The Geode LX is an i686 without PAE. It is still supported by the Linux
kernel.

However, the Geode KMS driver that someone had started working on was
never merged into the kernel tree. This means that xf86-video-geode
won't work without the X root wrapper and it cannot be used with GNOME
or any other DE that depend upon KSM-enabled drivers. It still works
fine with e.g. LXDE however.

Re: [Bug 1670373] Re: Sync cups-pdf 3.0.1-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2017-03-10 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
I just had a look.

Those errors tend to happen when -lcups is omitted from the GCC
options, yet the option is there, and the Build-Depends is there to
match.

I'm now wondering whether there are differences in how the CUPS
bindings are packaged in Ubuntu, versus Debian, since it builds fine
on Debian on all arch.

[Bug 1389891] Re: error during upgrade: cannot create /dev/shm: file exists

2014-11-06 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
This is my ubuntu+1 chroot, upgraded from release to release for the
past 7 years or so.

Yes, it appears that /run/shm has gone missing. That would explain
everything.

As a matter of curiosity, which ones of /run/shm or /dev/shm is the
current default standard? I'm wondering whether there might have been
changes of strategy upstream, as to which one of those two is expected
to exist, that could have left me with a dangling symbolic link.

[Bug 1389891] Re: error during upgrade: cannot create /dev/shm: file exists

2014-11-06 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
CADT has spread to Debian and lead to FHS-deviant release goals. That
definitely explains the confusion.

Anyhow, since the target is is the Ubuntu chroot, I solved this by re-
creating /dev/shm, removing /run/shm and calling it a day.

I'll leave it to you decide whether enforcing something similar in
postinst would make sense for Ubuntu or not. :)

iPXE only works with Coreboot on specific hardware platforms and only if
SeaBIOS (a free software BIOS implementation) is included in the
firmware build. It is not a universally supported option.

[Bug 1166786] Re: cups-pdf.conf should mention required AppArmor change

2014-09-20 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Actually, this is already documented in the README that ships with the
package as imported from Debian:

   CAVEAT (UBUNTU)

AppArmor prevents outputting PDF documents to non-default directories
so /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd must also be edited, whenever the
above defaults get changed in /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf.

However, I'm not sure whether Ubuntu ships all the included documentation when
it rebuilds the packages it has imported.

[Bug 1368158] Re: [MIR] xserver-xorg-video-geode, recommended by xorg 1.16

2014-09-11 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
AFAIK the package used to be a part of Main.

However, its usefulness since Precise is doubtful, considering how
Ubuntu optimizes the i386 archive for i686-PAE. Basically, unless Ubuntu
miraculously decides to support non-PAE x86 hosts again, building the
Geode module for Ubuntu is pointless.

[Bug 487826] Re: Etherboot floppy boot terminal appears to load image and failed with 'Issuing RESET:' on 9.10

2013-11-20 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
As pointed out earlier, both mkelfimage and mknbi have become broken
over time. The only clean solution left for older clients that don't
support PXE is wraplinux. Making wraplinux bootstrap an iPXE blob should
work for BIOS-based clients, but not for e.g. Coreboot-based clients.
