Re: [Bug 550222] Re: Firefox interface language set to LANG, ignores LANGUAGE
Being completely out of the programming in this case, my 5 öre is to say that it is not really good to have two global variables with almost same names, but slightly different meanings, and also same but slightly different meanings for their names. It could be a good idea to change both the variable names LANG and LANGUAGE to something more descriptive, I think. Martin 2010/10/5 Gunnar Hjalmarsson 550...@bugs.launchpad.net I have modified the GDM patch attached to bug 553162, and now that patch fixes the problem with programs, e.g. Firefox, that don't recognize $LANGUAGE. Even if the solution provided as an attachment to this bug works well, the code in the GDM patch is more elegant IMO. If you want to deal with this issue, without implementing the bug 553162 patches, and assuming that you want menus and messages translated into German, you can just add this line to the bottom of your ~/.profile file: export LC_MESSAGES=de_DE.utf8 -- Firefox interface language set to LANG, ignores LANGUAGE https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550222 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of a duplicate bug (576162). -- Firefox interface language set to LANG, ignores LANGUAGE https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550222 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 576162] Re: Firfox menu language selected by LOCALE and not be MENU-language
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 550222 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550222 Yes, I think it is the same bug as you refer in your next mail. Anyway, referring to your question - here is how to reproduce it: installed Ubuntu 10.04 using GNOME interface system - adminsitration - laguage support text tab (by the way, this is a misleading tab name, Locale or Dates, numbers and currency would be better) select another language than English for display numbers, dates, ... push apply system wide log out log on again Firefox does not diplay menus in English Best regards MArtin 2010/5/6 David Planella david.plane...@ubuntu.com *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 550222 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550222 Hi Martin, El dj 06 de 05 de 2010 a les 09:16 +, en/na Martin Andersson va escriure: Hi David The language settings are two things. One concerns with what kind of currency is being used, what kind of decimal point etectera. This is usually referred to as locale. The locale should be used only for how to display things like year-date-format, thousand separator, and so on. I understand what the different locale settings are, I'm just trying to determine how exactly you set them, so we can debug your problem. So could you: * Tell us how did you change them? With gnome-language-selector (i.e. System Administration Language Support)? * Give us the output of the 'locale' command on the terminal? The other thing is what language is used in menus, for example the Ubuntu desktop menus, but also the language used in applications like Open Office or Firefox. The language shown in menus should be the same used in the applications. If it's not, this is probably a bug. Recently gnome-language-selector gained the functionality to set a locale for the language of the applications differently from other regional settings (currency, date, etc.), and I'm just wondering if this is related to that. The reason why there are two different settings is that someone using Russian menus may want to use an american locale if they are working a lot US units like inches and feet. It might even be that someone wants to customize the locale settings. In my case, I prefer to English menus and Japanese locale to get currencies and separators right. But if I change the locale to be Japanese, also the menus of Firefox change to Japanese. It might be OK, but it is not a correct behavior. All the other menus in the desktop and so on remin in English. Only if changing to Japanese menus in the language settings, the menus should change. (I have seen this problem for many applications also in Windows XP but recently most apps are behaving correctly and not deciding the menus from the locale). Hope this helps Martin 2010/5/6 David Planella david.plane...@ubuntu.com Martin, Could you please explain us what do you mean with English menus and a Japanese locale? How do you set the two different languages? Thanks! [Bug 90830] Headphone autosensing/automuting not working as expected
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20 I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Si1520 laptop running an uptodate Feisty. If I use the latest Ubuntu kernel version (git as of: 2007-03-09) in feisty on this computer the autosensing/automuting of internal speaker and headphone jack does not behave as expected. This behavior can also be observed on the Amilo Pro v3205) Problem: When I plug my headphones in, the internal speakers get muted but no sound is outputted to the headphones. (I hear sound for a very short time (0.5 sec) in my hp, then all quiet). If I comment out the contents of the function cxt5045_hp_automute in sound/pci/hda/patch_conexant.c everything works as expected (hp in = Only sound in hp, hp out = only internal speakers). This leads me to believe that my computer have autosensing/automuting done in hardware (or something similar) and when the driver also do automuting the wrong mixer channels get muted. Note: The same behavior, but in reverse, can be observed with git ubuntu kernel versions before commit 5bb5522b65050a448245acdb42a63a590c385921 , i.e. I have sound in hp when they are plugged in, but with them unplugged no sound in hp nor internal speaker. lspci -vvn output for relevant hardware: 00:1b.0 0403: 8086:27d8 (rev 02) Subsystem: 1734:10ad Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast TAbort- TAbort- MAbort- SERR- PERR- Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 64 bytes Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 23 Region 0: Memory at dc24 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1- D2- AuxCurrent=55mA PME(D0+,D1-,D2-,D3hot+,D3cold+) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- Capabilities: [60] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable- Address: Data: Capabilities: [70] Express Unknown type IRQ 0 Device: Supported: MaxPayload 128 bytes, PhantFunc 0, ExtTag- Device: Latency L0s 64ns, L1 1us Device: Errors: Correctable- Non-Fatal- Fatal- Unsupported- Device: RlxdOrd- ExtTag- PhantFunc- AuxPwr- NoSnoop+ Device: MaxPayload 128 bytes, MaxReadReq 128 bytes Link: Supported Speed unknown, Width x0, ASPM unknown, Port 0 Link: Latency L0s 64ns, L1 1us Link: ASPM Disabled CommClk- ExtSynch- Link: Speed unknown, Width x0 Capabilities: [100] Virtual Channel Capabilities: [130] Unknown (5) ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Headphone autosensing/automuting not working as expected https://launchpad.net/bugs/90830 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
