OK, in fact - I can confirm that it works with ubuntu the preloading in the skype wrapper. If you store the session via gnome, skype is loaded via the real binary instead of the script. Nothing is showing up. It's possible to set up the vpnc connection with nm-applet and then use it from knetworkmanager, but this might be a problem for unexperienced users.
