[Bug 676413] Re: Video playback performance drops substantially after suspend/wake cycle (Lenovo X201 i5 w/ Intel GMA HD)

2011-05-27 Thread Martin Karpinski
This bug also appears in Lucid.

To all of those that are having this problem, does Flash video
performance still stutter in fullscreen if you disable Compiz? If it
plays smoothly, then that's both a workaround and a clue. This bug has
nothing to do with intel video drivers, or nvidia. From this layman's
perspective, it looks like it's either a kernel bug, a compiz bug, or a
flash bug.

For me (and likely for others for whom my workaround works), this bug is
reproducible 100% of the time after suspending TWICE. Suspending only
once from a fresh reboot does not reproduce the bug for me. Hibernate
doesn't impact flash performance at all. I have no idea when this bug
first appeared, since I always used to shut down the machine completely
at the end of the day.

I'd really like to get this bug fixed. Should I file a new bug report,
or can we proceed from here? Also, should I try the debugging method
mentioned in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ??

[Bug 638765] Re: udisks wakes up unmounted drives from standby with smart polls

2010-12-31 Thread Martin Karpinski
I'm running Lucid. I can confirm that my WD Elements external USB HDD
constantly wakes up when udev checks the SMART data.

The exact moment the drive wakes up corresponds perfectly to the time
that Disk Utility reports as the minute that the SMART data was updated.

Was this somehow fixed in Maverick yet or not? Strong incentive to
upgrade, if it has been.

Thanks Nico! Your workaround worked.

Never underestimate the power of getlibs ;)

Now, am I to undestand that, at least in my case, the error message

was caused by libgail being a 32bit library and not compatible with

If you are just using those three extensions, we can rule out
Firegestures, which I never believed to be the problem.

[Bug 370603] [NEW] Firefox crashes in Ubuntu 9.04, seemingly at random

2009-05-01 Thread Martin Karpinski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Sorry for providing very little information, but Firefox is crashing
randomly. I've had Firefox crash under the following circumstances:

-- opening a link in a new tab via Firegestures
-- performing a status update on Facebook, and having a second Javascript
window open to enable me to find a Youtube video via the Facebook gui
-- visiting lifehacker.com (the page was already loaded completely, and all I
did was move the mouse cursor)
-- opening a new tab via CTRL-T (if I remember correctly, these crashes happen
without warning)

I'd only been using Ubuntu 8.10 for a few days before 9.04 came out, so
I can't provide feedback as to how it performed under 8.10.

It would be very hard to reproduce these types of crashes, since under
normal usage they would happen once every few days. I'm a heavy internet
user, and so I get one every day or two.

Running:

Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 AMD64
Firefox 3.0.10+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1

Firefox Extensions (have not tried to disable):

Adblock Plus 1.0.2
DownThemAll 1.1.2
Firegestures 1.1.6.2
FlashGot 1.1.8.6
NoScript 1.9.2.4
Stealther 1.0.6
Tab Mix Plus 0.3.7.3
TabCounter 1.0.3
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.7
Xmarks 3.0.2

I've used most of these extensions together in Vista for quite a while
now with no problems whatsoever. Please let me know if I can provide any
additional information. I know this isn't much to go on.

[Bug 367809] [NEW] gnome-app-install searchbox no longer displays results on subsequent searches under certain conditions.

2009-04-27 Thread Martin Karpinski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-app-install

When using the Add/Remove Applications GUI, if you type an app name
that is NOT on the list into the search box, further searches for any
apps, even ones that are installed, will yield no results.*

I believe this bug to be reproducible:

Songbird is not on the list of apps. Type in Songbird and you will
naturally get no results. Now type a known app, Firefox. This search
will yield no results.

To my knowledge, the GUI worked perfectly in Intrepid, but is broken in
Jaunty. Using AMD64 'buntu. Package version 0.5.24-0ubuntu1

* You can sometimes mitigate this by clicking on a software category and
then clicking all, but this does not always work.
