Re: [Bug 264345] Re: =(-8)^(1/3)

2008-09-03 Thread Martin Kretzschmar
I'm not an expert on computer arithmetic, but I would guess that this
can only be solved using symbolic algebra, or by storing rational
numbers as rationals, or by using complex arithmetic. Openoffice.org
most likely uses plain floating point arithmetic, so cannot solve
this.

[Bug 128329] Re: visual bug in gnome terminal

2008-02-17 Thread Martin Kretzschmar
I observed this bug on a week old Hardy install. My xorg.conf is
basically empty (generated by the alternate installer):

Section InputDevice
Identifier Generic Keyboard
Driver kbd
Option XkbRules xorg
Option XkbModel pc102
Option XkbLayout de
Option XkbVariantnodeadkeys
Option XkbOptionslv3:ralt_switch

Driver mouse
EndSection

Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
EndSection

Section Monitor
Identifier Configured Monitor
EndSection

Section Screen

EndSection

I never saw this before (breezy installation continuously updated to
hardy).

I have the same graphics chip, same screen resolution as the original
reporter. Different laptop though (Thinkpad T40p).

[Bug 56008] Re: gsfonts-x11 depends on uninstallable transitional package xutils

2007-11-16 Thread Martin Kretzschmar
This was not just about xutils being uninstallable (though that's what I
said in the first line of the bug report), if it was, I'd have filed it
against xutils, of course.

It was also about having a useless dependency. That problem still
exists.

IIRC past versions of the patch were considered non-upstreamable by
the patch authors (or readers?), doing evil things like removing

while Mozilla is running?). Sorry for the lack of details, maybe the
situation is totally different.

Here are a series of important questions Michael Albert thinks should be posed
to Chavez.

URL: http://www.zmag.org/sustainers/content/2006-12/14albert.cfm

Hello Hugo
By Michael Albert

Have you ever felt like there are things you want to know about what someone
thinks that would matter for the lives of many people and yet you have no way
to get the answers? You can't call the person on the phone and ask their views.
The person doesn't have a public phone number. You can't appeal to friendship.
The person doesn't know you. You can't use email. The person has no public
email address. In the case of some folks, of course, all that insulation from
the public is reasonable. Take Hugo Chavez, for example. For him to have a
public phone number or email address would be ridiculously dysfunctional. But
what if you have questions and you not only can't get direct answers, but you
also can't get your questions answered by way of intermediaries because those
routes are mazes that lead nowhere. Most often, then, pragmatism should trump
futile persistence. Move on. But what if the person whose views you want to
hear is not only incredibly open in his or her demeanor,
and incredibly thoughtful by reputation, but also part of a process committed
to seeking advocacy from all directions? And what if you think - whether you
are deluded in this or not - that your questions are right up the person's
alley, in this case Chavez or other folks participating in the Bolvarian
Revolution, and are key to your and others advocacy? If so, how about floating
your questions out into cyber space, hoping for the best. At the very least,
that's gotta be better than tossing a bottle with a note in it in the ocean,
even in a swift current.
Hugo Chavez says he wants to build twenty first century socialism. He decries
market

Industrial icons (standard for OOo running in Ubuntu/GNOME), the icons

Re: [Bug 66933] Recent Documents doesn't include files opened from within OOO

2006-10-19 Thread Martin Kretzschmar
GNOME changed the recent files mechanism which was previously based on
a freedesktop.org standard and now it's something different, and
there is no migration path at all. IMNSHO the guy who changed the
recent files code should have enhanced the panel (and only the panel)
to support both methods.

The new scheme requires linking to gtk+ unconditionally which isn't
possible for OOo.

This is not strictly OOo-only, all GNOME apps that used the old scheme
have to be ported one by one to the new scheme (it's not a simple
recompile). I don't expect that all GNOME apps in the repository have
been ported.

You might want to consider reassigning to gnome-panel (because it's
the only location where a workaround can be implemented, not because
it's the panel's fault)

[Bug 58123] Re: [Bug 58123] Re: Openoffice.org writer incorrectly displays single line spacing as 1.5 line spacing in Dapper PPC

2006-08-30 Thread Martin Kretzschmar
The OS X PDF doesn't use the font that the ODT specifies (PDF:
Helvetica vs. ODT: FreeSans), so one might think that differing fonts
are responsible for the spacing differences. Would be nice to have an
OS X PDF with the correct font to see if there are differences between
the platforms at all.

But even without a usable file for comparison, the spacing on dapper
looks wrong.

Looking at the undefined references, there seems to be some ABI
incompatibility between g++-4.1 and the new gcj-4.1.

The missing method names don't include return types. The symbols in
libgcj.so.70 (where java::lang::Class::initializeClass is supposed to
be), and pdf.a (where the others are) do however include the return type
in the mangled name (whereas the symbols in the old libgcj.so.7 didn't
AFAICS).

Cc'ing doko because this looks like a gcj guru is needed.

For me, removing the file helps only temporarily. With the file, I get
high cpu load immediately, without it only after some time.

[Bug 56008] gsfonts-x11 depends on uninstallable transitional package xutils

2006-08-11 Thread Martin Kretzschmar
Public bug reported:

xutils is not installable because imake was dropped from edgy.

(xutils has:Depends: imake (= 1:1.0.0) | xmkmf, xcursorgen, sessreg,
xfonts-utils
and there are no files in xutils itself)

xmkmf, xcursorgen and sessreg aren't necessary for gsfonts-x11, are
they? And there's already an xfonts-utils dependency in gsfonts-x11.
Shouldn't that be enough?

[Bug 52407] User-Agent string without Gecko breaks Gmail

2006-07-09 Thread Martin Kretzschmar
Public bug reported:

In edgy, firefox's user-agent string doesn't contain Gecko

Epiphany behaves the same.

That makes Gmail use the fallback basic html mode which is not as
responsive/ajaxy as the default view. Adding that string to
general.useragent.foo in about:config temporarily fixes it, but the
setting isn't permament (at least not in epiphany).

[Bug 24882] Re: OOo2 Gnome Integration Package breaks some hotkeys

2006-07-08 Thread Martin Kretzschmar
Just played with the (OpenSUSE 10.1-based) SLED 10 RC. It works there
because SUSE has changed the default input method from the upstream
Default (which provides the Ctrl-Shift-Unicode stuff) to XIM. Side
effect is that Ctrl-Shift-Unicode doesn't work in any gtk+ app by
default.

Relevant patch seems to be this:

diff -ru gtk+-2.8.9.orig/modules/input/imxim.c gtk+-2.8.9/modules/input/imxim.c
--- gtk+-2.8.9.orig/modules/input/imxim.c 2004-04-24 11:58:48.0

 static const GtkIMContextInfo *info_list[] = {

We could probably change the input method for openoffice.org-gtk
(without a gtk patch), by setting GTK_IMMODULE (to xim?) during OOo's
start (if it wasn't set by the user).

[Bug 24882] Re: [Bug 24882] Re: OOo2 Gnome Integration Package breaks some hotkeys

2006-07-03 Thread Martin Kretzschmar
Should probably be retested with gtk 2.10. From its release notes:

* The hexadecimal Unicode input feature has been reworked. It no longer
blocks the use of the sixteen Ctrl-Shift-hex digit key sequences. Now
  it only uses Ctrl-Shift-u.

That might fix Bold/Fett, but break Underline...
