[Bug 1295379] Re: IDE drive via USB to IDE/SATA connector not being recognized

2014-03-24 Thread MasterNetra
Added the requested details into description.

** Description changed:

In Ubuntu 13.10 and in 14.04 plugging in a IDE drive using a USB to
IDE/SATA connector no longer results in the drive being mounted or
  recognized.
+
+ 1. Steps I took:
+a. Plugged in the IDE drive into a functioning USB slot and turned on (as
usual).
+b. Waited for at least 5 minutes (in the past usually mounts within 2
minutes).
+
+ 2. What I expected to happen:
+ Is expected to auto-mount or at least show up in nautilus (mounted or not).
+
+ 3. What did happen:
+ system reacts as it would be when its checking it out but ultimately does
nothing about it. No mounting, nor does it seem to show up anywhere at all.
+
+ Notes: Older versions then even 13.04 (10.10 for example) still
+ recongize and mount it. So its not a hardware issue.
+
+ Edit: added in post sentence details as requested.

Re: [Bug 711397] Re: package firmware-b43legacy-installer 4.178.10.4-5 failed to install/upgrade due to unsupported hardware

2011-05-08 Thread MasterNetra
you have to have bcmwl-kernel-source from 10.10 installed, the 11.04
version is broke.
Download it from: http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/bcmwl-kernel-source
After you download it, remove 11.04's version from repo, I usually use
synaptic to search for it, then install the 10.10 version (You don't need to
bcmwl-kernel-source's dependencies from 11.04, those are fine). After thats
installed, go back into synaptic, find bcmwl-kernel-source again and this
time, select it, and goto "Package > Lock Version" to prevent it being
upgraded back to the broken natty version. After all that, restart your
computer and it should be working again.

[Bug 711397] Re: package firmware-b43legacy-installer 4.178.10.4-5 failed to install/upgrade due to unsupported hardware

2011-04-26 Thread MasterNetra
Here is a work around for ya, use 10.10's bcmwl-kernal-source:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/bcmwl-kernel-source

Remove the old one, and after you install the one from maverick be sure
to hop on synaptic, find bcmwl-kernal-source again and goto "Packages >
Lock Version" after you have found and highlighted it. This is to
prevent any accidental upgrades back to natty's version which would once
again break it.

Once all is done you could restart, or just wait patiently for it to
refresh and connect/supply nearest wifi locations.

"http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1700897&highlight=BCM4312+Natty&page=2";
 Post 14.
(Worked for me, I have a bcm4312.)

and she is behaving as she should now. Don't understand how it decided
to setup like that... I'm 100% certain I didn't select its option when I
set it to not encrypt home at install...hmm will have to test run some
installs...

2010-11-01 Thread MasterNetra
** Description changed:

I'm duel booting Maverick & Windows 7. And did a re-install of Ubuntu
10.10 And set it to not encrypt my home directory but did have it set to
ask for a password at login screen. But after reboot to my surprise it
keeps jumping to the desktop without ever going to the login screen. I
checked my user options and checked the Don't ask for password option,
which isn't checked. So if it was working right it should be going to
the login screen and not directly to the desktop. This wasn't a issue
with a encrypted home directory and this is the first time I did a
Ubuntu 10.10 install without encrypting the home directory.

Also its fully updated and still does it.
+
+ *Update*
+ I selected the "Don't ask for password on login" option then restarted to
test to see if it was in reversed. Same result. Skipped login and went to
desktop.
+ I then unselected it then restarted in case unselecting it after it was
selected my get it working right, but on load it once again skipped the login
screen and went to desktop. So it seems to be completely broken for unencrypted
home directories.
+
+ I'll try adding another user and see if I can get it to behave
+ correctly.

[Bug 570529] Re: package b43-fwcutter 1:012-1build1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 4

2010-04-27 Thread MasterNetra
Offline when I attempted this. It was attempted in a attempt to get my
wireless up and running as a hard line is out of the question and while
installing the bcmwl kernel, followed by the STA driver in Live-CD works
for some reason it cannot do this after install it claims it can't get
all the dependencies which doesn't make sense to me as it could while in
Live-CD mode. I was under the impression that fwcutter would of been
able to retrieve what was needed from the firmware or something, perhaps
I'm mistaken as this not my area of expertise.

[Bug 559513] Re: Wireless driver failure. b43

2010-04-18 Thread MasterNetra
It worked during Live-CD but not after install. Despite drawing from the
CD's repo it couldn't install bcmwl-kernel-source, kept claiming it had
to get some dependencies from the internet. I think it was Patch it
couldn't get all the dependencies for. I reinstalled to see if it was
some corrupt install but same result. Be nice if we could specify at
install wither or not propriety drivers are used so that if we choose
them the drivers are automatically used instead of needing to fiddle
with this type of stuff unnecessarily

2010-04-18 Thread MasterNetra
Thanks. Though for a Distro thats aiming to be user friendly having it
setup to where you have to do this instead of having it completely
available in the system is not New User friendly and is something that
helps hold Ubuntu back from being number one. Mandriva, PCLinuxOS, and
Fedora have no issues with this.

[Bug 559513] [NEW] Wireless driver failure. b43

2010-04-09 Thread MasterNetra
Public bug reported:

This has been a issue over multiple releases. I have a broadcom wireless
card and by default Ubuntu has never been able to use it. Without re-
installing the driver from live-cd (which it can't do in Lucid Beta 2).
And as you know doing so in a life cd is pointless as you need to
restart.

I've supplied the dmesg log contents via attachment.

2010-03-31 Thread MasterNetra
The Black screen system freeze happened randomly with all other distros
thought it has only just happen after a restart from this inciddent so
it maybe a one time faulty restart as it was indeed a bit buggy (with a
empty cd being mounted where there was none, but after I was forced to
do a hard reset the false mount disappeared so the Black screen freeze
maybe just a one time show.

[Bug 546270] [NEW] Video crashes to black screen from gnome-screensaver-preferences

2010-03-24 Thread MasterNetra
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Initially I was able to startup gnome-screensaver-preferences without
issue but when I selected the Ant Spotlight for a screensaver and the
ant in the preview almost made a full turn with its light facing you,
the screen would go completely black and can't do anything but
hardboot...well almost, after a crash I set the power button to switch
off the system and sense then if I hit the power button just after it
black screens the system shuts down as it is supposed to. But now if I
load up the screen saver preferences the ant spotlight is select by
default and as a result video crashes again a few seconds after
screensaver preferences is loaded.

[Bug 533644] [NEW] [i845] GPU lockup 3f96c350bc4a864ddc683ad516e250f6

2010-03-06 Thread MasterNetra
Public bug reported:

Seems to lockup randomly, This occurs even with other distros though
Lucid Alpha 3 has been the first that allowed me to recover with
everything else the visual and input would just freeze and hang until a
hard reset. I hope this gets fixed.

[Bug 254056] Re: installing fonts in ubuntu sucks

2009-02-15 Thread MasterNetra
Or...the fonts folder could simply be visible and there by default? The
install option for font extensions would be nice too i suppose. Because
as it stands installing fonts can easly leave people scratching their
heads if they don't know how to install them already. :/ If ubuntu is
going to be user friendly this is one of the things that should be done.
