[Bug 715504] [NEW] Can't get to Samba share in Nautilus but can in CLI

2011-02-08 Thread Matt Burkhardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

If I go to the CLI, I can type in

smbclient //UBUNTU/Documents

and it comes back and asks for my login, then I can see everything but
if I bring up Nautilus, I get an error message. Although if I step down
into a directory using the CLI, it seems to fix my issue with Nautilus

Just started with 10.10 - I have had this network share ever since 9.04

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10
Package: nautilus 1:2.32.0-0ubuntu1.3

[Bug 494141] Re: CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart)

2010-11-28 Thread Matt Burkhardt
I've been running Ubuntu LTS Versions since 6.06 and doing the upgrades.
I'm currently at 10.04 and I've got this exact same problem.

I've tried adding in the fix listed in Comments #18 and #25 (the same
fix), but that doesn't work at all - meaning Samba does not load at all
and running smbtree gives me nothing.

I have also tried putting the /etc/rc2.d/S50cups and move it to S05cups
- but still doesn't work.

I'm not sending the cups.conf file because I'm not on Maverick and it
runs just fine if I stop and start cups then smbd

Samba has been running fine with CUPS the last 3 1/2 years on that box
with all the LTS updates applied and this last set broke a couple of
things - but mostly CUPS / XSANE related. Any help or pointers
appreciated

I've got a little more data on this - the box that I'm having problems
with is a Dell Inspiron and I also have an older Toshiba - Rhythmbox
works just fine off that one and also connects and plays from the DAAP
share, so it must be some weird problem with hardware or a driver on the
Dell.

[Bug 510921] [NEW] No sound from daap share

2010-01-21 Thread Matt Burkhardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I'm able to put a CD in a drive and listen to a CD, but when I listen to
my DAAP share, it downloads a list of all the music, it looks like it's
playing the songs, but it doesn't make any noise.

It's an intermittent problem - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Sorry Leann for taking so long.

I'm running 9.10 and I'm still having the problem. I tried booting with
the reboot=b option and that didn't help out either. I'm now running
Linux kernel 2.6.31-16

[Bug 474707] [NEW] [TOSHIBA TECRA M1] late resume failure

2009-11-04 Thread Matt Burkhardt
Public bug reported:

Just hoping it reports it correctly - this is an automatic bug report

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from
resuming properly. The resume processing hung very near the end and will have
appeared to have completed normally.

[Bug 471046] [NEW] 9.10 Karmic upgrades removes Wireshark (as root)

2009-11-02 Thread Matt Burkhardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wireshark

When the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, the process removed Wireshark (as
root) from the list of menu options and left Wireshark. I ended up
having to do a little digging to recreate the right command to get
Wireshark to run as root. Otherwise, it does not list any capture
devices.

[Bug 196749] Re: migrationtools don't work except from their installation directory

2009-05-25 Thread Matt Burkhardt
Just did an apt-get install migrationtools for 8.04 server LTS and the
link in /etc/migrationtools/migrate_common.ph points to
/usr/share/migrationtools/migrate_common.ph which doesn't exist. I had
to read through this to find the file in
/usr/share/perl5/migrate_common.ph

Had to copy that file over to the /usr/share/migrationtools folder and
edit

Could you package this so that copying of files between folders is not
needed?

[Bug 355400] Re: OpenLDAP doc page is horrible

2009-05-21 Thread Matt Burkhardt
After almost a full week - I've discovered a few of the things that are
wrong with the documentation.

First, it talks about using the cn=config tree which is NOT
automagically created for you with the installation. You need to go to
http://www.zytrax.com/books/ldap/ch6/slapd-config.html to create and
populate the tree. It's been available since openLDAP 2.3 and should be
used for that

Since I didn't have the cn=config tree, I didn't have the credentials
set up to access them - probably should have gotten a different error
message.

I'm just going to continue adding items until I get this working!

[Bug 355400] Re: OpenLDAP doc page is horrible

2009-05-21 Thread Matt Burkhardt
Yeah - noticed that after I got a few more steps into it. I'm using
8.04 LTS and I found somewhere deep down that Intrepid automagically
installs the cn=config. I'm trying to find some documentation that
helps set up the openLDAP with Samba being the PDC. I might go to 9.04
because this is a new server install and that might be easier to do.

Thanks

[Bug 355400] Re: OpenLDAP doc page is horrible

2009-05-15 Thread Matt Burkhardt
I too have been having a terrible time install openLDAP - first on a
brand new 8.04 LTS server and now on another one (it's a development
box).

I do

sudo apt-get install slapd ldap-utils

then

sudo dpkg-reconfigure slapd

Saying No to Omit OpenLDAP server configuration? (which is confusing -
why not Continue openLDAP server configuration? then have the answer
default to Yes)

DNS Domain Name as

imparisystems.local

Organization name as (What is this? What should it be?)

admin

Password / twice (my supersecret password)

Database backend to use HDB

Do you want the database to be removed when slapd is purged? No

Move old database? Yes

Allow LDAPv2 protocol? No

The configuration then comes back with

Stopping OpenLDAP: slapd.
Moving old database directory to /var/backups:

Description: provides a software installation daemon
PackageKit allows to perform simple software management tasks over a DBus
interface e.g. refreshing the cache, updating, installing and removing software
packages or searching for multimedia codecs and file handlers.

The work is done by backends which make use of the package manager shipped by
the corresponding distribution. PackageKit is not meant to replace advanced
 tools like Synaptic.

 The main benefits are:
 * unified interface on several distributions
 * fine grained privilleges by using PolicyKit
 * independecy from a running desktop session during the processing

Re: [Bug 267371] Re: Damaged OpenOffice files from samba shares

2009-01-19 Thread Matt Burkhardt
Okay - I'm no Linux geek, but trying...

I do have gvfs installed - I have Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on the server and can
not update it so I can't run the newer Samba and I'm running Ubuntu 8.10
on all of the PC's which has 2.6.27-9-generic kernel on it. I would
like to make as few changes as possible to get this to work - what do
you need me to do?

I figure that the nodfs option is for mounting - but where does that
happen? What should I change the mount command to?

Thanks!
