[Bug 396252] Re: Firefox 3.5 (Shiretoko): middle-click on link opens _two_ tabs

2009-11-11 Thread Matt Collins
Sorry to bump this again, but it seems the root cause is the same for
bug #370855 ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
terminal/+bug/370855 ) but there has been no activity on that (or
anything else I can find) for quite a while.

clicks) in ubuntu?

[Bug 396252] Re: Firefox 3.5 (Shiretoko): middle-click on link opens _two_ tabs

2009-11-08 Thread Matt Collins
I also just started getting this. I can't see any patterns with
websites, and it occurs whether or not my plugins (ABP, Noscript,
firegpg, flashgot, torbutton) are enabled or disabled. A new user
account also had the same problem.

This is on karmic, 2.6.2.6.31-14-generic, and firefox 3.5.4.

Hm, just then, pasting the output of uname -r into here (select,
then middle-click in the text box) pasted the info twice... and pasting
into another application in the same way sometimes pastes twice. I don't
think this is a bug in firefox.

[Bug 418108] Re: Dual head opens applications on main display, regardless of expected display

2009-08-26 Thread Matt Collins
Not gnome-panel's fault as I originally thought, but glib2. Is 'Fix
committed' a suitable status?

** Package changed: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) => glib2.0 (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Fix Committed

Yup, it appears that the patched libglib2 in that second link works
perfectly. Now its just a case on getting that version into the main
ubuntu repo...

[Bug 418108] Re: Dual head opens applications on main display, regardless of expected display

2009-08-26 Thread Matt Collins
I've just been linked to a fedora buglisting...
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506220 suggesting glib is
the culprit. Further searches on glib found this...
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+question/77380 so
I'm going to try the update mentioned there (a patched glib2) and report
back.

[Bug 418108] [NEW] Dual head opens applications on main display, regardless of expected display

2009-08-24 Thread Matt Collins
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

$ apt-cache policy gnome-panel
gnome-panel:
  Installed: 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7
  Candidate: 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7 0
100 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Setup: Laptop (ASUS A6Jc) with nVidia 7300Go. Main display (laptop
screen) @1280x800 + Second display @1440x900. Displays configured using
nvidia-settings as two separate X-displays (no xinerama) with the second
display to the left of the laptop display. xorg.conf attached.

I also experience bug #128735 ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-
panel/+bug/128735 ) and I think it's related (only one instance of
gnome-panel allowed etc)

Opening applications from the main display works fine. I can open and
program listed in the menu, or any location listed in 'Places', and the
window appears on the main display as expected. On the second display,
however, most applications/locations opened from that menu still appear
on the primary display. Exceptions include wine's 'Browse C:\ Drive'
which opens on the correct display.

However, if I open something using a hotkey (for example, I have a
hotkey for the terminal - win+t) it opens on the correct display (the
one containing the cursor). Opening files from the desktop opens on the
correct display as well.

Also, if I manage to get a nautilus window open on the second display
(either by opening a specially created blank folder on the second
display's desktop, or more usually (the folder moves to the main display
if X is started without the second display being connected, and doesn't
move back next time X is started with the second display connected)
through wine's 'Browse C:\ Drive' menu item) any file or program I open
from the nautilus window will open in that display.

Another note - if I click on the volume applet in the second display's
panel (next to the clock, by default) it opens the volume control slider
on the main display. This is the only applet apart from the clock and
username/logout/shutdown applet that appears on the second display's
panel. Coincidently, the icon for the shutdown button is shown as the
'red cross in a box' on the second display. However, the window list in
the panel works correctly - the one on the second display shows the
windows open on the second display, and the one on the main display
shows the windows open on the main display.

Apologies for the above confusing wall of text...

[Bug 273142] Re: screensaver won't release with mouse movement

2008-11-25 Thread Matt Collins
Ah. The screensaver died because I was hitting the panel and 'focusing'
on some of the buttons, not just because of large mouse movement.

[Bug 273142] Re: screensaver won't release with mouse movement

2008-11-23 Thread Matt Collins
Hmmm If I move the mouse a lot (ie, from one side of my desk to the
other) the screensaver closes... There's a setting for mouse hysteresis,
isn't there? Tell you what would be really useful, a screensaver
settings button in the screensaver chooser ;-)

[Bug 282806] Re: 2 screens -> nautilus shown on the wrong screen when opened via the panel

2008-11-22 Thread Matt Collins
Also, something else strange. I think its at least related...

If I get a nautilus window open on my second monitor (either by terminal
or an icon on the desktop), running mplayer (by doublecliking a video
file in nautilus) opens it up on the first screen. If, however, I run
mplayer from the panel, it opens in the correct screen. Same for images
(EoG), music (mplayer again), pdfs (document viewer)... so far,
everything apart from open office formats. These open on the correct
screen regardless of how they're opened.

[Bug 87317] Re: Screensaver just detects idle time on one screen

2008-11-21 Thread Matt Collins
Still an issue on a clean install of 8.10

There's quite a few issues with gnome-screensaver! Most seem to be (ime)
to do with detecting mouse movement, if that helps anyone!

[Bug 282806] Re: 2 screens -> nautilus shown on the wrong screen when opened via the panel

2008-11-21 Thread Matt Collins
This affects me also.

Opening nautilus from the panel or menu results in nautilus opening on
the main display. Opening nautilus from the terminal or from an icon on
the desktop opens nautilus on the correct display.

[Bug 69609] Re: Live CD boots without screen display on dual head

2008-11-21 Thread Matt Collins
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 43710 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/43710

I don't think this is a duplicate of #43710 (related and similar, so
I'll leave it linked for now, but not the same)

I have the same problem (one screen fine, second flashing lines and
colours) on my ASUS A6Jc laptop. Working screen is the laptop display,
flashing screen is an external monitor on a VGA connection. (Haven't
tried DVI)

Once installed and booting from the hd, everythings fine (laptop screen
working, other just blank until I enable it through nvidia settings) but
when running the ubuntu 8.10 livecd, the second monitor flashes instead.
Kinda worrying for a new linux user!

Same issue here. Mouse movement does nothing (x86, gnome-screensaver,
galaxies), but any key press or mouse button press kills the
screensaver.

I get this problem too - ASUS laptop A6jc. Audio doesn't play at all,
and video plays realy slow ~1fps with no audio. Switching to a vtt
and back brings everything back to normal though.
