Re: [Bug 375341] Re: ssh-add/ssh-askpass (gnome) not launching graphical prompt on connect

It seems so, for every key under .ssh (regardless of filename), ssh- askpass launches properly. But if the key is somewhere else ssh-askpass ignores .ssh/config It seems like a bug to me, unless ssh-askpass is supposed not to follow .ssh/config Btw, the behaviour describe here was consistent in: Ubuntu 10.10 - Maverick Meerkat Both 32 and 64 bit -- ssh-add/ssh-askpass (gnome) not launching graphical prompt on connect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/375341 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- ssh-add/ssh-askpass (gnome) not launching graphical prompt on connect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/375341 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 669413] [NEW] grub2 layout no longer suitable for shared boot/multi-distro
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub-pc legacy grub stored all configuration file (menu.lst) in /boot, this made using a shared boot partition easy for multiple distributions to use as the configuration for the boot loader was in a central shared place that multiple OS's could access and update. Storing grub2 configuration information in /etc on a single host non- shared file system now breaks this compatibility. Other OS's can't access the grub configuration files to update the bootloader configuration. [Bug 578035] Re: ssh-askpass-gnome doesn't prompt for password in any release post ubuntu 8.10 32/64bit
after a very short and helpful conversation with the gnome-keyring developers this problem is now resolved. The problem is that the way gnome-keyring checks for public/private keys has changed. The old process used to check for ~/.ssh/id_?sa now it checks for a matching public key in a *.pub format too. For gnome-keyring to actually prompt you to unlock the key, both the public and private keys must be in your local ~/.ssh directory, this is why some users are seeing this as a problem, and others not. I was always keen to keep my public and private keys separate for legacy security issues, I've just dumped my public key with a .pub extension in my ~/.ssh directory and gnome-keyring started working, bang. No technical problem, just user error and a lack of information about the changes to gnome-keyring package in the ubuntu community/packager. ** Changed in: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Fix Released -- ssh-askpass-gnome doesn't prompt for password in any release post ubuntu 8.10 32/64bit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578035 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

While this input is valid and appreciated, I'm not sure how gnome- keyring-prompt/gnome-keyring knows if this is a new key, or an old key. I'm using a DSA key, what is in this key file that is suggesting to gnome it's an old key ? [Bug 578035] [NEW] ssh-askpass-gnome doesn't prompt for password in any release post ubuntu 8.10 32/64bit
Public bug reported: I have reported this bug before for the releases 9.04 and 9.10 but I'm unable to find them for some reason so thought it best to log a clean bug on it as those bugs had gone no-where. no - the bug is logged to ubuntu, it is up to ubuntu to work with upstream to resolve the issue. This issue is not present in other distros, such as fedora and is working in ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10, on the same hardware. I'd expect ubuntu to work with the upstream developers to fix this if upstream patching is required, or ubuntu developers to resolve this if it is specific to ubuntu -- ssh-add/ssh-askpass (gnome) not launching graphical prompt on connect. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/503938 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 503938] Re: ssh-add/ssh-askpass (gnome) not launching graphical prompt on connect.
I'm an ubuntu member, but I think you where trying to say someone on the development team. As you can see from the earlier bug, bug #375341 it was confirmed and multiple people had the problem. I fully understand how hard it is to fix something that you can't replicate, and I'm not expecting an Ubuntu developer to fix it, but at least understand the problem and report it upstream if applicable with the correct information. The reason I'm pushing for Ubuntu to be involved in this are a.) this worked in all previous releases up to 8.10 - anything past 8.10 doesn't work. b.) Fedora works on multiple releases 8 - 11, and I fully understand that just because fedora works doesnt mean it's not something Ubuntu specific. c.) I've not seen a bug report on RHEL/Centos, or Debian for anything similar (I will test on Debian and RHEL asap personally). these three things are suggesting to me at this early stage that its either a bug that the Ubuntu package versions are triggering, or a bug in the way Ubuntu intergrates it. Either way I feel it prudent to get and push for Ubuntu developers to become involved as this is now a carry over bug from 9.04. While you don't have access to a machine that can replicate this problem (I've tested it on 3 of my machines so far - same failure on all, clean install only) I'd be happy to in the first instance a.) provide debugging information for anything you request b.) provide access to a machine with this problem. From that point that may be enough to understand the problem and progress it to right path. -- ssh-add/ssh-askpass (gnome) not launching graphical prompt on connect. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/503938 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 503938] [NEW] ssh-add/ssh-askpass (gnome) not launching graphical prompt on connect.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-keyring This is a duplicate bug for bug #375341 which was 9.04 specific. This bug is now relevant to 9.10. Exactly the same hardware and conditions. SUMMARY On previous release ubuntu 8.04/ubuntu 8.10 when using ssh to connect to remote hosts with ssh private keys from within the gnome environment, the ssh-askpass (gnome-ssh-askpass renamed) is launched to prompt for the pass phrase for the keys in $HOME/$USER/.ssh/{identity,id_dsa,id_rsa} once this pass phrase is input it is handled by gnome-keyring/ssh-agent for future connects so that no passphrase is required for any machine using that key. On a clean install of ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 the behaviour is different. Upon connection to an ssh host, ssh-askpass is no longer launched and instead the ssh terminal application prompts you for the key. Without the setup of scripts/wrappers, this key must be entered every time a user wants to connect to a host using that private ssh key. There are many work arounds for this (using ssh agent, launching ssh- askpass as a session at login etc) but I believe this is either a bug, or an expected change in behavior in how gnome is intergrated with ssh. [Bug 503946] [NEW] Password box greyed out connecting to a hidden wirless network
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools Connecting to a hidden SSID network can take a long time in Ubuntu 9.10 and sometimes even fail. I have configued the hidden SSID network in the gnome-network-admin tool, and when it does auto connect it works fine, however if it doesn't auto connect (5 + minutes) I have to use the left click option connect to hidden wireless network When this happens a dialog pops up allowing me to select the SSID network I'd like to connect to - keep in mind mine is pre-configured. when I select my pre-configured SSID network from the available drop down list. the password box is blank, stopping it from connecting. The password entry field and connect button is greyed out so there is no way to then enter a password and connect. [Bug 375341] [NEW] ssh-add/ssh-askpass (gnome) not launching graphical prompt on connect. ubuntu 9.04
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-keyring On previous release ubuntu 8.04/ubuntu 8.10 when using ssh to connect to remote hosts with ssh private keys from within the gnome environment, the ssh-askpass (gnome-ssh-askpass renamed) is launched to prompt for the pass phrase for the keys in $HOME/$USER/.ssh/{identity,id_dsa,id_rsa} once this pass phrase is input it is handled by gnome-keyring/ssh-agent for future connects so that no passphrase is required for any machine using that key. On a clean install of ubuntu 9.04 the behaviour is different. I have been unable to find any documentation to indicate a change in behavior in the gnome desktop environment. If you want to post work around try the ubuntu forums as there are many threads asking for help and discussing this issue. -- flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173890 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 173890] Re: flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version?
guys, can we please keep the discussion / work around banter on this bug clean as Brandon requested. Allow me to summerise in the hope that this will stop the banter and keep it clear for the resolution. 1.) The flash package from ubuntu broke due to Adobe changing the CONTENTS of the flash tar ball on their site. 2.) Ubuntu reacted and created an updated deb package for use with the new adobe tar file. This package worked for gnome/firefox users only due to the contents of the adobe tar file no longer containing components needed by konqueror and opera. Due to this only working for Firefox users the proposed fix was withdrawn and a new approach (mentioned in Brandons last post) is being created. Can we please wait for a fix, update or request for input before coming up with more random work arounds. The work arounds are this if your a firefox user you may down load the plugin and install manually - this will technically work for you as a plugin but you may experience issues later in ubuntu life if the ubuntu proposed fix conflicts with your manually installed plugin. Thats about it at the moment. -- flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173890 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 173890] Re: flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version?
Guys, I'm going to attempt to tidy this up and put it to bed a little better. Please don't take this as a I don't care about konquer situation, as thats not the key, kubuntu/konquer are key. I would request that there is two seperate bugs launched one for working in opera and one for konquer, heck, I'm logging a third myself about some of the bugs in the gnome usability of the flash plugin. This bug can potentially be closed as it is based around the checksum error that is fixed and it does install. As you rightly point out there are multiple issues with the actual plugin from adobe and ubuntu compatability which can be addressed seperatly rather than lose track in this bug which isn't actually related to the technical functionality of the plugin Does that seem sensible to everyone with gripes about the plugin in kubuntu for example. -- flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173890 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

great, so once this package is moved from proposed into main we can close this bug - and focus on resolving the others seperatly. thank you cyrus -- flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173890 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 173890] Re: flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version?
I have now tested Brandon's fix on all supported ubuntu platforms. Brandon - package appears functional at install time. Some sites have minor issues, but thats down to plugin changes, not the install package. I'd request this now be moved to release. -- flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173890 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 173890] Re: flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version?
Brandon has a fixed marked, I think we should allow the package to be deployed before disscussing alternatives what ifs and how to's. The package is broke due to md5 checks. Lets get that bug resolved for this package, close the bug and if appropriate log another bug to details issue with the package for say konqueror compatability as that is not the goal of this bug. In the same way Bug 175255 details the general issue with md5 checksumming on packages, lets keep this bug clean until resolution. -- flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173890 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Can we please drop the how to compile and trouble shooting personal compiles from this bug report. there is an official fix made, has the package been distributed to the repo's yet ? it appears not for the 32bit gutsy repo's. Hi could someone clarify the status of this bug please. The bug is marked as fixed released, but in the stable gutsy repo's the checksum is still wrong. [Bug 158687] Re: [network-admin] No no encyption option in Gnome network-admin for Intel Wirless Card
Thanks for changing the location. Additional information: on Investigation, the problem appears to have various manifestations. I've seen many other users of the same card reporting one option for this cards encyption missing. For example open encyption is missing for my personal situation, others report wep is missing but they have open, other wpa but they have wep. The bug appears to be more generic not all options are available rather than the initial cannot select open authentication as reported. -- [network-admin] No no encyption option in Gnome network-admin for Intel Wirless Card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158687 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 158687] No no encyption option in Gnome Network Manager for Intel Wirless Card
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-network SYSTEM DETAILS: Dell XPS M1330 Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network card OS DETAILS: Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy x86 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Restricted Driver for Intel 3945ABG. FAULT While trying to use gnome-network configuration gui to connect to an unsecured access point there is no option to select no encryption or unsecured. I have to manually use iwconfig to set the ESSID and encryption level to none. I initially thought this list was build from the drivers capabilities but looking at the source tree it looks like this list is just part of the gnome-network package. I would expect to see WPA/WPA2/WEP/Unsecured for example as drop down options. ** Affects: gnome-network (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No no encyption option in Gnome Network Manager for Intel Wirless Card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158687 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 158695] Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card looses wirless extensions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image System Hardware: Dell XPS M1330 Ubuntu OS: Ubuntu 7.10, x86 Linux obiwan 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux Problem Intel wireless card 3945ABG, using the restricted driver works fine. At random points after approx minimum of 35 minutes use the connection drops. On investigation, the card has lost its wireless extensions. an iwconfig on the card will not reconfigure it. The card maintains its IP address, routing information. Dmesg reports no change in the card the interface is still up, the only points of interest is that the laptop drops from the network and that iwconfig reports no wireless extensions on the card post the drop off.
