[Bug 1512715] [NEW] Slurm-llnll-slurmdbd can't connect to database at system boot, but succeeds if started manually

2015-11-03 Thread Matteo Rossi
Public bug reported:

I installed slurm-llnl and slurm-llnl-slurmdbd on a Ubuntu 14.04
workstation. I successfully configured slurm, but am having trouble with
the slurmdbd service.

After a system boot, service --list-all shows

 [ + ] slurm-llnl
 [ - ] slurm-llnl-slurmdbd

and /var/log/slurm-llnl/slurmdbd.log

[Bug 656952] Re: nvidia-current update, xorg doesn't start

2011-02-19 Thread Matteo Rossi
Well actually I didn't reply because I have kept my working 256 driver
which works correctly and I've never tried with the package version to
avoid wasting an hour with driver installation. Since driver version in
the repository is still 260.19.06, I guess nothing would change...

[Bug 524967] Re: Screen brightness doesn't work on Vaio Y

2011-01-04 Thread Matteo Rossi
I have this kind of problem on a Sony VAIO CW2C5E (nVidia 310M). The
only way to control screen backlight is using nvidiabl module from

https://github.com/guillaumezin/nvidiabl

I can see gnome power monitor correctly interfaces with backlight module
because changing settings in gconf works. Anyway, Fn keys do not work.
In the log file there is no trace of key presses. Is there a way to
check gnome-power-manager association with those keys? Other Fn keys
(volume for instance) work correctly out of the box.

Guys I found this page which contains three patches by the author
reported on phoronix.com (Takashi Iwai):

I don't know how to compile the driver so if someone wants to try them
or tell me the steps to follow I'll be glad to help!

[Bug 656952] [NEW] nvidia-current update, xorg doesn't start

2010-10-08 Thread Matteo Rossi
Public bug reported:

After last updates my maverick installation fails to start unless i run xorg in
failsafe mode through recovery console.
The screen remains purple after the loading splash screen with Ubuntu 10.10 has
gone.
I think the problem is with the update in the nvidia driver, but I'm not sure
and I don't know how to test it.

[Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-09-19 Thread Matteo Rossi
Well not exactly Dana. Here we're talking about MT support on Synaptics
v7.2 which actually has native multitouch support, but it is not
recognized by xorg driver. We're not talking about emulation, which by
the way I think is already supported in linux.

[Bug 606606] [NEW] Latest nvidia driver causes appearance problems

2010-07-17 Thread Matteo Rossi
Public bug reported:

With nvidia driver version 256.35 I experienced some problems with the
default user interface. I run into this both with Lucid (drivers
upgraded from xorg edgers packages, rollback fixes the problem) and
Maverick (in which the driver is default). Two screenshots attached. You
can see the problems with highlighted application in the lower panel and
with buttons and menu separators.

I confirm the bug on a Sony VPCCW2C5E with Synaptics touchpad V7.2.

Windows driver reports up to three fingers with Shift+Alt+i. Under
Lucid, synclient -m only one finger. Sometimes I experience some spazzy
pointer behavior.

[Bug 576550] [NEW] pointer gets crazy when tapping with two fingers on synaptics multitouch touchpad

2010-05-06 Thread Matteo Rossi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

On a Sony VAIO CW2C5E the pointer gets crazy (moves randomly on the
screen) if the touchpad is pressed with two fingers. The touchpad is
multitouch (working on windows), but it isn't recognized by Ubuntu (two
finger scrolling option appears grayed out in the Mouse settings
dialog).

I confirm the bug with Lucid final release. XServer runs on the VGA
output (so the OS is visible only if a monitor is plugged in). I had to
use the EDID extracted from windows to have the laptop LCD recognized. I

[Bug 535222] Re: Atheros AR9285 wireless poor performance

2010-04-24 Thread Matteo Rossi
Using the latest svn version of madwifi plus patch
http://madwifi-project.org/attachment/ticket/2391/madwifi-4122-ar9285.patch
increased performance a lot which now is almost identical to Windows'.

Steps to use madwifi:
1. Download
http://madwifi-project.org/attachment/ticket/2391/madwifi-4122-ar9285.patch
2. mkdir madwifi, copy madwifi-4122-ar9285.patch to it, enter it
3. svn checkout http://madwifi-project.org/svn/madwifi/trunk/ madwifi_last
4. patch -p0 < madwifi-4122-ar9285.patch
5. cd madwifi_last
6. make
7. sudo make install
8. modprobe -r ath9k
9. modprobe ath_pci

[Bug 557588] [NEW] Laptop backlight hotkeys not passed to gnome-power-manager without hal

2010-04-07 Thread Matteo Rossi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

If I uninstall hal package (which should be deprecated in 10.04 right?) the
brightness hotkeys are not passed to gnome-power-manager, thus the screen
dimming does not change.
I checked that the hotkey is recognized by acpi and they are:
acpi_listen
sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0010
sony/hotkey SNC 0001 003b
sony/hotkey SNC 0001 0011
sony/hotkey SNC 0001 003b

Maybe there is a script to associate the acpi event with gnome-power-
manager dimming?

[Bug 554111] [NEW] FIle copy over wifi gets stuck

2010-04-02 Thread Matteo Rossi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I try to copy files from another windows computer on the network,
the copy gets stuck after some MB transfer. This is probably related to
the problems with the Atheros AR9285 wireless chip which I reported in
bug #535222. Anyway, clicking on the red X next to the progress bar does
not interrupt the process and the file operation indicator is still
visible in the tray until I shut down.

The graphic card is a nVidia 310 M. I currently have the proprietary
driver 195.36.08 installed through the package nvidia-current.

I directly installed Lucid alpha 3 on this machine, so I can't tell if
it worked with previous versions.

I attach some logs which could be useful. Please tell me if you need
more information.

[Bug 539141] [NEW] Black screen after resume

2010-03-15 Thread Matteo Rossi
Public bug reported:

Using Lucid Alpha 3 updated on a Sony VAIO VPCCW2C5E.

I send the computer to Sleep, but when I resume it, the screen remains
black and I can hear the login screen sound. I have to restart XServer
to get to the login screen.

I didn't attach any log file because apport can't connect to the
database and I'm not sure which logs may be helpful.

[Bug 539119] [NEW] Backlight OSD has incorrect behavior

2010-03-15 Thread Matteo Rossi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release:10.04
Distribution is updated daily.
Laptop: Sony VAIO VPCCW2C5E

When I hit the Fn + F5/F6 to adjust backlight I get the following behavior:
1) The bar is at its maximum (if I increase more it glows). To decrease it
completely I have to press the key 37 times, but the backlight only decreases
at the 33rd, 35th and 37th hit. The bar reduces alternatively by a small amount
and a bigger amount.

2) With the bar at its minimum, I have to hit Fn+F6 52/53 times to reach
its maximum, while backlights increases only on the 1st/3rd and 5th hit.
The bar increases and then reduces by a small amount with two subsequent
hits.

I attach the ubuntu-bug gnome-power-manager report, because bug filing
is not working with apport.

[Bug 450465] Re: Mounted ipod is not recognized by hal

2009-12-27 Thread Matteo Rossi
This problem also applies to me: Ubuntu 9.10 fully updated. GTKpod
recognizes the ipod. With podsleuth i get the error

Found an iPod device, but it is not known by PodSleuth:
   Error: org.podsleuth.* properties are missing
   UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_6CD8_2807
   Block Device: /dev/sdb1
   Mount Point: /media/ipod

Cause: PodSleuth may not be installed properly, the HAL daemon may need
to be restarted and/or the device needs to be refreshed.

Note: A PodSleuth debug log was found: /tmp/podsleuth-debug
This file may provide more details or can be useful to
developers. Please save it somewhere else and use it in
  a bug report. See http://banshee-project.org/PodSleuth

[Bug 468589] Re: Unable to shut down or restart on Karmic

2009-12-26 Thread Matteo Rossi
I'm experiencing this bug with a fresh install of 9.10 on a dedicated
partition -no Wubi- with other two NTFS partitions.

I fixed the bug after update to 2.6.31.16-generic using the workaround
provided here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/wubi/+bug/468589/comments/19

But after update to 2.6.31.17-generic #54-Ubuntu the bug appears again.
