[Bug 243294] [NEW] Large flat network causes printer dialogue to hang up

2008-06-26 Thread Matthew Tighe

At a convention this week with wi-fi access everywhere. The network used
a /16 mask and the printer box would hang when connected to the network.
Disconnect from the network and everything was fine.

It would appear so, the .09 driver makes reference to a regression in

Probably best to pull the .05 driver from proposed.

[Bug 238882] [NEW] Hardy-2.6.24-19 Kernel Regression-Resume no longer works

2008-06-10 Thread Matthew Tighe
Public bug reported:

Downloaded the proposed Hardy-2.6.24-19 kernel yesterday and resume from
suspend no longer functions. I get the gnome panel on top and a white
screen for everything else and a mouse pointer. The system is a Dell
Latitude D820 with an Nvidia video card (using the 169.12 driver). This
maybe an issue with restricted modules or the kernel itself. Everything

Same here. I've been running the new kernel and now recommend it to

[Bug 229161] Re: Neopets drawing problem in firefox.

2008-05-19 Thread Matthew Tighe
Go to add/remove componets from the Ubuntu menu. Search for flash and
make sure swfdec, gnash, and Adode Flash are uninstalled. You may want
to manually remove the file you see as well once this is done.

Firefox should be closed while doing this. Now restart Firefox and go to
a site like www.youtube.com. It should complain about missing plugins.
Click on that message. If you are running the default version of FF that
ships with Ubuntu it should give you an option to install Adobe Flash
for Gnash. Install Adobe Flash. Restart FF and go to flash enabled site
to verify it is working.

Gnash may not be compatible with neopets.com and I think you have it
installed.

[Bug 206346] Re: evolution will not connect to exchange 2007 server

2008-04-15 Thread Matthew Tighe
I'm changing this to confirmed as the upstream got confirmed as well.
Unfortunately I don't think there is a fix for this yet. I googled
around when it first happened and the developers are aware of it and are
working on it. It's apparently not an easy fix - Microsoft changed quite
a bit in the OWA front-end.

I did find an experimental MAPI plugin that worked pretty well, but when
my organization upgraded the back-end to 2007 it stopped working as
well. Hopefully now that Microsoft is publishing their specs this will
get easier.

[Bug 214147] Re: firefox app gets very slow when opening tabs with flash content. ex.: www.forumpcs.com.br in many tabs.

2008-04-13 Thread Matthew Tighe
I could not confirm this my 64-bit Hardy install. But if you look around
there are lots of FF3b5 posts and bug reports in regards to Flash.

Check out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177856 as an example.

[Bug 202366] Re: Burning disc stalled and ruins disc when opening gparted during process

2008-04-13 Thread Matthew Tighe
This falls under the don't do this category. Gparted scans all
connected drives when launching. It's designed to do that. This will
interrupt the disc burning process.

Given the nature of Gparted and the fact it requires root privs to even
execute, I can't really agree this is a bug. The user can't accidently
click it and make it happen.

I think the medium classification for this is too low. This can really
impact your system. If you don't have a terminal window open and no
shortcut to one on the desktop you are effectively locked up. Alt+F2
fails me in this situation, too.

I also had a complete system hang sometime after leaving gnome-panel in

That might help indeed. I can't reproduce it under Hardy Live CD either
(running in a virtual machine). It could indeed be a specific driver
issue. But my machine uses the nvidia driver. And it appears under
virtualbox to be using a generic vga driver.

[Bug 201723] Re: global addressbook: invalid credentials

2008-03-23 Thread Matthew Tighe
Other question would be are you on your company's network or off of it?
If the OWA server is available off-net it doesn't mean the catalog
server is reachable off-net.

That's a big problem in Evolution in general...it can't handle that very
well. Unfortunately my company upgrade to Exchange 2K7 so I can't even
connect any longer so I don't know how much more troubleshooting I'll be
able to do.

[Bug 23369] Re: firefox(-gnome-support) should get proxy from gconf

2008-03-19 Thread Matthew Tighe
I did some more testing this evening. This works from gnome-terminal,
but not from the menu. Start FF from the terminal and it uses the proxy
server defined in the Network Proxy applet, but not if run from the
menu. The big difference between the two is FF run from the menu has a
parent process ID of 1 (/sbin/init), while FF from the terminal has a
parent process ID of gnome-terminal.

[Bug 60901] Re: Slow startup - Fetching summary information for new messages

2008-03-18 Thread Matthew Tighe
Pretty much confirmed it is the Global Catalog Name Server setting for
me. If it's available (via VPN), Evolution is down right speedy. If it
is not, it takes forever to load.

This should time out much faster, or better yet, only try to contact it
when doing things in the Global Address book (there's no reason to try
and ping before that).

Slow for me too, Hardy Alpha 6 + updates (Mon Mar 17). Takes about two
minutes before it opens up. No error messages. Even after it appears, it
says loading for another 3 minutes or so. And then after it loads, it
can still be a couple more minutes before you can select and see an
e-mail.

[Bug 202045] Re: forward and back mouse buttons don't work

2008-03-14 Thread Matthew Tighe
Here's what I had to modify to get it to work for me:

Section InputDevice
Identifier Mouse0
Driver mouse
Option CorePointer
Option Protocol ExplorerPS/2
Option Device /dev/psaux
#Option Buttons 7
Option ButtonMapping 1 2 3 8 9 10 11
#Option ZAxisMapping 6 7
EndSection

And then I have a script called .mouse-start which runs when I login
(this is a hold over from fiesty, but the scroll wheel would not work
without it):

#!/bin/sh
exec xmodmap -e pointer = 1 2 3 8 9 4 5
exec imwheel -k -b 6 7
exec $REALSTARTUP

I hope this does work out of the box for most people and this is just a
hold over thing because I've upgraded.
