resolved, so I suppose this bug could be closed? Will post here if

[Bug 260675] Re: [intrepid] Wacom Xorg module is incompatible with the kernel module shipped in kernel packages.

2008-10-11 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
I just installed intrepid from beta and then ran updates etc. and now my
wacom graphire4 4x5 is working without any changes from me.
Unfortunately, only the stylus is working, the eraser is not nor is the
scroll wheel on the tablet.

2008-10-11 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
Well for me, I just copied the file over now, restarted, and it makes
absolutely no difference. Both before and after, stylus works perfectly,
nothing else works... if it goes through like this, this would be, imho,
quite a major regression from hardy... I know tablets weren't very easy to
enable in hardy, but at least they could be made to work perfectly. It's
great that it works out of the box but there are some major features
missing.

[Bug 216702] Re: totem sends surround sound to wrong channels

2008-09-19 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
I've just been playing around on alpha 6 live cd, unfortunately,
however, I can't even test this since I havn't been able to configure
pulseaudio for surround sound without restarting (which would then
remove all settings of course) Another bug (#260675) makes installing it
impractical at the moment. However, some more testing on hardy has
revealed that it's probably more to do with pulseaudio, or further down
the chain - I'm not sure why I didn't notice that before. pavucontrol
also controls the wrong channels, while the volume control from volume-
control-applet controls the right ones... I guess this means it really
needs to be tested further and possibly a bug filed against the
appropriate package.

On a side note, it should probably be easier to setup / enable surround
sound in pulseaudio than having to edit config files... :(

My current workaround is to just plug the rear speakers plug into the
center / LFE socket and vice versa, which is fine for me as long as I
don't boot into vista too often (which does recognise all the channels
correctly)

[Bug 216702] Re: totem sends surround sound to wrong channels

2008-05-02 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
I'll see if I can try some other applications, but what you suggested
there wouldn't show anything, since any 2 channel sound is merely output
to all speakers. Even if i could find a 6-channel sound to test it on,
most of these sort of applications, from poking around somewhat, will
only output as if 2 speakers existed anyway (eg mplayer's default action
is to downmix 5.1 channel sound to 2 channels, iirc)

[Bug 216702] [NEW] totem sends surround sound to wrong channels

2008-04-13 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

Using hardy with latest updates, I see the following problem (also
present in gutsy iirc)

Totem will output surround sound to the wrong channels. I have a 5.1
surround speaker system, and can confirm that it is set up right (ie by
using the volume control applet I can adjust the volume of each speaker
and they match what the volume control applet tells me.) However, in
totem, sound is coming from the wrong channels - eg I hear all the sound
from the center channel (all the speaking etc) coming out of the rear
left speaker, and LFE seems to be sent to rear right etc.

[Bug 198672] [NEW] Gstreamer players fail when other backends in use

2008-03-05 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

When trying to use a gstreamer based player while another non-gstreamer based
application is using the sound card nothing plays and this leads to the
following error in the syslog:
module-alsa-sink.c: Error opening PCM device front:0: Device or resource busy

This is a big problem because I usually have me-tv (xine backend) start
loaded in the tray, and then no gstreamer based players (elisa being my
favourite) will play. Firefox will sometimes cause gstreamer based apps
to fail in this way. Two gstreamer based apps (I tried totem-gstreamer
and elisa) will work fine together. I tried:

Xine and Totem-gstreamer
Me-tv and elisa
Me-tv and totem-gstreamer
Mplayer and totem-gstreamer
Mplayer and elisa
Totem-xine and totem-gstreamer
Firefox (and youtube) and totem-gstreamer

In all of these cases, the gstreamer based app will fail to play with
the above error in the syslog

This appears to be a problem with plib.. while working through this in

1.0.0

This was still an issue even with compiled simgear 1 and flightgear 1,
so it appears to have its root in plib.

Looking closer, it appears that what's actually been done is to disable
syncing to vblank by default, or at least for nvidia cards. Not ideal, but i
suppose it will fix it for the use cases discussed above...

Still, it would be nice to see this working with sync to vblank, which looks

managed to change it using displayconfig-gtk, but now alhtough my user

resolution but give me a virtual desktop (if thats the correct term)
where although the desktop is 1440x900, the screen runs at around

2007-10-01 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
I'm having the exact problem described by Nico in comment #32 if I try to

If I disable Sync to VBlank - i get the white screen issue described above

If i disable compiz altogether - no problems.

This is all in the latest gutsy, with all updates.

2007-03-21 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gksu

The dialog popped up by gksudo and gksu could really do with a lot of
polish. IMHO it would look nicer if the window had a title bar, rather
than simply being a block in the center of the screen, and was made
slightly smaller. Maybe a cancel button would be nice? to enable the
user to cancel the running of the administrative task. Overall, I am no
ui expert, but I think a bit of work could be done on the dialogs,
especially as the average user will see them a number of times after
their first install, while setting up their machine.

[Bug 60398] Saving crashes openoffice.org

2006-09-14 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

I have tested this in both openoffice.org impress, and openoffice.org
writer. I'm running edgy, with openoffice.org 2.0.3-4ubuntu2 . Trying to
save a document/presentation in any way, either by hitting the save
button, using File -- Save, or using File -- Exit and then hitting
Save causes openoffice to crash, the save dialogue to be displayed
(although nothing can be saved through it) and Document Recovery to kick
in. The document/presentation can be fully recovered, but then, once
again, its impossible to save, so openoffice is practically rendered
useless.

** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Untriaged
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 40289] Re: bluefish crashes when using quickstart

2006-06-16 Thread Matthew Vermeulen
I can definitely say that this happens on my dapper system running
bluefish 1.0.4. Every time I try to use the quick start dialog, bluefish
crashes.
