[Bug 967399] Re: [11.10] Elantech trackpoint does not work Lenovo

2014-06-04 Thread Matthias Blaicher
Hi Khadijah Mitchell,

Why did you close the issue for Precise? From what I read in this thread, the
Ubuntu kernel devs are not willing to integrate the patch and wait for upstream
- while there is nobody actually pushing the patch upstream.

As I currently see it, there is actually only a slim chance of having
this problem fix by default in the close future. Maybe somebody could
create a dkms module identical to this Arch Linux patch:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/elantech-tp-dkms/

2012-05-26 Thread Matthias Blaicher
This might be related to this bug report:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42858

Basically this is what I'm seeing on my i7 X220 - even though the CPU
reaches 97 degrees with full speed fan - it stays in turbo mode no
matter what, as verified with powertop. Maybe somebody now more about
thinkpad throttling in turbo mode?

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

In Ubuntu 10.04, the gnome-power-manager seems to have no effect on my
laptop. I am running my Toshiba laptop with an external monitor and the
laptop LCD disabled. I've set the gnome-power manager to turn the screen off
after 10 minutes (the time is actually irrelevant), but the screen will never
turn off. It doesn't matter if I have the screensaver set to activate or not.
It also doesn't matter how much time I tell the manager to wait before
powering down the monitor. The monitor stays on no matter what.

[Bug 424225] [NEW] [karmic] sdptool failes with bluetooth dongle

2009-09-04 Thread Matthias Blaicher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez

USB dongle is discovered and pairing works, so does hcitool scan,
however

#sdptool browse 00:1B:AF:xx:xx:xx
Failed to connect to SDP server on 00:1B:AF:xx:xx:xx: File descriptor in bad
state

Also searching for devices with gnome-bluez doesn't turn up any device
(it does however when trying OBEX Push, which fails when transmitting
thoug)

This problem has existed at least since Jaunty. Today there was a
version bump in the karmic bluez stack but this didn't help. On my Asus
EEE where bluetooth is integrated it does work though with the
integrated bluetooth.

I suppose it is not a kernel bug as pairing with PIN works...

Re: [Bug 403610] Re: kde 4.3 Multiple Monitors tells lies

2009-08-24 Thread Matthias Blaicher
So digging in the bug reports (kde bug #180437) revealed those buttons
for positioning are intentionally left out. Compare to recent SVN
http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/KDE/kdebase/workspace/kcontrol/randr/outputconfig.cpp?view=markup

// FIXME: RandRScreen::applyProposed() has a bit of code for positioning
// outputs, but it's commented out and might not work as is. Until
someone
// gets this to work, it's probably better not to show these controls.
positionLabel-setVisible(false);
positionCombo-setVisible(false);
positionOutputCombo-setVisible(false);

and once you had a look at RandRScreen::applyProposed you know why it
is not working. So unless somebody works on it, this feature just has
not yet been coded.

I tried to hack the flashplugin-installer_10.0.22.87ubuntu2_amd64.deb so
that it won't try to update-alternativ those things. Now at least one
can install the package and uninstall it afterwards. Once flashplugin-
nonfree is installed flash works again. I'll append the hacked 64-bit
package, the i386 package can probably hacked the same way.

Oh, first I tried to only alter VARIANTS to VARIANTS=mozilla firefox

Ok I also made a package for i386 but could not test it as I'm x64 only.
This is not a fix merely a hack to get your system to a usable state

There was a patch committed to the intel driver trunk regarding vsync

It should be included in the next build of the xorg-edgers PPA (
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers ), but be aware that once you
installed this PPA it's quiet hard to get rid of it again... Please
read the warnings on the website.

I guess it would be wise to wait for the next release of the intel
driver and use the ubuntu-x-swat PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat )

So, enough bug spam

[Bug 146298] Re: [i965] intel gm965 compiz dual head issues

2009-05-13 Thread Matthias Blaicher
Your PPA is out of data again, it would be great if you could patch the
most recent version as well (mesa-7.4-0ubuntu3.1). Also it seems that
there is now a fix to the intel problems, and I bet this patch has
nothing to do with it, as it was a bug in the intel driver and not mesa.

I am now using the xorg-edgers PPA with a 2.6.30-rc4 kernel (to
improve my performance on a big screen and avoid the hangs I
experienced with the stock Ubuntu UXA) and it runs like a charm even
with vsync enabled. - Just to let you know it is fixed with upstream.

2009-03-15 Thread Matthias Blaicher
I'm the guy from the duplicate and I agree this is the same bug. Please
note that slow really means that the _whole_ screen gets updated less
than every two seconds. There is also not much CPU used by compiz. The
only thing which still works as usual is the mouse cursor. (Which is
also painted by compiz, right?)

[Bug 342161] Re: Compiz VERY slow since last update (0.5FPS)

2009-03-13 Thread Matthias Blaicher
Ok, Compiz PPA didn't help. This bug only occurs with UXA enabled. UXA
now seems quite unstable so I reverted back to EXA (with all it's known
problems). Perhaps UXA will get more stable once the new Intel driver
is upgraded.

Sorry for the triple post...
