[Bug 1387154] Re: USB host device no longer added to VM

2014-11-04 Thread Matti Laakso
I also have the same problem: USB host devices can no longer be added to
the guest system. I don't use USB redirection with spice, but the Add
hardware -> USB host device option in virt-manager. I get the following
messages in the /var/log/libvirt/qemu/guest.log file:

libusbx: error [_get_usbfs_fd] libusbx couldn't open USB device
/dev/bus/usb/001/011: Permission denied
libusbx: error [_get_usbfs_fd] libusbx requires write access to USB device
nodes.

Sure enough, the write permissions are restricted to root only:

crw-rw-r-- 1 root root 189, 11 marra 4 12:00 011

Shouldn't libvirtd change these permissions automatically? This worked
in 14.04, so it is a regression.

If I now unplug and replug the network cable (a common fix for network
problems), NetworkManager does not try to get a new IP address via DHCP:

Nov 8 11:02:07 lempo NetworkManager[975]: (eth0): device state change:

Rather, I must log on to my computer, click on the nm-applet and select
Auto eth0. This is highly inconvenient if I'm out of office and would
like to do something remotely. Otherwise I could just ask my colleague
to replug the cable.

This week I noticed to my delight that this is fixed in 10.10 Beta. My

the IP if you can physically access the computer, but it is obviously
impossible to do it remotely.

fixed according to the bug report.

[Bug 274593] Re: NetworkManager does not activate Wired connection when DHCP server not present

2010-09-06 Thread Matti Laakso
I was bit by this bug today: I'm out of office for a week, and yesterday
the network was down for several hours. Now my computer in the office
doesn't have an IP address, and won't take a new one even when my
colleague pulled the network cable and plugged it back in.

I'm the only one with a user account to my computer, so I guess power
cycling it is the only option. Unfortunately there are some calculations
running, and I don't know whether they are finished yet...

Running 10.04 with the latest updates.

That helped, thanks. I had always thought that also ld searches the

Anyway, could the update-alternatives system be used somehow to

[Bug 587288] [NEW] ld cannot find -lcuda, when compiling cuda programs

However, libcuda.so can be found under /usr/lib/nvidia-current. I'm
using the 256.25 drivers from the X updates PPA, but according to
reports on other forums, also the official nvidia-current package
exhibits the same issue. Also, the official drivers downloaded from

[Bug 302570] Re: g-p-m doesn't save charge and discharge profiles

2008-12-03 Thread Matti Laakso
It seems to me that since the battery does not provide a serial number,
gpm uses 'battery.charge_level.design', i.e., its capacity as the
battery identifier. However, at least on my Eee 901 it seems to change
along with the battery charge level! Therefore gpm thinks that the
battery has been changed.

It seems that the 'battery.reporting.design' is the correct identifier
for the battery capacity on Eee 901.

[Bug 221552] Re: virt-manager unresponsive - KeyError 'virtio_blk'

2008-04-25 Thread Matti Laakso
Same thing here. This happens when OS-type is windows, kernel/hardware
acceleration is enabled, and I press 'next' in the dialog where I have
to choose where to install the virtualized system.

[Bug 206984] [NEW] Wrong dpi in hardy when second monitor is disabled

2008-03-25 Thread Matti Laakso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Xorg in Hardy beta seems to use wrong resolution (DPI) when two monitors
are connected, but one of them is disabled. This results in e.g. wrong
aspect ratio of videos in totem (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/198054). I think
this bug is the same as here (status invalid):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/38946.

When one monitor is disabled, xdpyinfo shows

screen #0:
  dimensions:1920x1200 pixels (1049x331 millimeters)
  resolution:46x92 dots per inch

which is obviously wrong. With both monitors enabled

screen #0:
  dimensions:3840x1200 pixels (1049x331 millimeters)
  resolution:93x92 dots per inch

and everything works correctly.

Also, Xorg.0.log has a line

(--) NVIDIA(0): DPI set to (93, 92); computed from "UseEdidDpi" X config

Note that I'm using NVidia drivers (171.06 beta) with twinview enabled.
Prior to upgrading to hardy this issue did not exist, so I don't think
that this is an NVidia bug.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 95569] Re: CPU frequency scaling causes crash

2007-04-20 Thread Matti Laakso
I am also experiencing crashes related to CPU frequency scaling. I have
a dual core processor (Core 2 Duo E6600) and every time I run a heavy
process the computer freezes once the process is finished and load goes
to zero. If I run e.g. glxgears with nice 19 in the background, this
does not occur. I can also fix this by saying

sudo chmod +s /usr/bin/cpufreq-selector

and setting both cores to "performance" (i.e. full frequency all the
time). This happens both in edgy and feisty. However, one of the first
Feisty alpha kernels did not have this bug. If I remember correctly it
was 2.6.19-7.

My motherboard is Abit AB9 with latest BIOS. I also have another similar
system, but with a different motherboard (Asus Commando). The second
computer does not suffer from this bug.

[Bug 107982] Feisty final does not boot without irqpoll -option

2007-04-20 Thread Matti Laakso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

After upgrading from 6.10 to 7.04 final my computer no longer boots
without irqpoll -option. Without irqpoll I get two times (about one
minute in between) the message:

ata3.00: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)

After about a minute from this I get dropped to a BusyBox shell. With
irqpoll I am able to boot.

I have an Abit AB9 motherboard (Intel 965 chipset) with my SATA hard
disk connected to ICH8 and PATA CD/DVD connected to onboard JMicron-
controller. Processor is Intel Core 2 Duo E6600.

[Bug 84964] Re: Crash from ide_pci from generic.ko for jmicron controllers

2007-03-28 Thread Matti Laakso
I have two systems with a JMicron-controller. First one has an Asus
Commando motherboard, and it works perfectly as of 2.6.20-13.

The second one with Abit AB9 still does not work however. I get the same
messages as apjaworski, i.e., it complains about a timeout with ata5 and
not being able to set xfermode, then it retries two times and disables
ata5. HOWEVER, ata5 corresponds to my primary hard disk, which is not
connected to JMicron, rather it is connected to ICH8 SATA-port. So this
may be a different bug altogether. Edgy works fine though, and so did
Feisty with kernel 2.6.19-7 (IIRC).
