[Bug 318946] [NEW] k9copy stops working after upgrading uim-qt3 or uim-qt

2009-01-19 Thread Mattias Jansson
Public bug reported:

Yesterday I installed uim-qt and uim-qt3, and after the install I
noticed that my apps using qt stopped working. The apps would start, but
the GUI would not show, and a ps -ef | grep [process name] would show
that it was doing something.

Today I removed uim-qt and uim-qt3 (version 1:1.5.1-2 for both,
according to /var/log/apt/term.log) and after this my two apps (k9copy
and VirtualBox) started to work again.

I am running under 8.10.

[Bug 228680] [NEW] logging out to gdm screen and logging in again as same user hangs gdm

2008-05-09 Thread Mattias Jansson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Im not sure if this belongs to gdm but here goes:

Synopsis:
1) Start computer, wait till gdm login screen comes up.
2) Log in via gdm
3) Press red button in upper corner of default ubuntu hardy screen, and select
Log out
4) wait till gdm login screen comes up.
5) Log in as same user
6) It starts successfully, but half-way thru the login melody, the music hangs
and the computer becomes completely unresponsive. ctrl-alt-backspace does not
help. I have to physically turn off the machine.

I just did a clean install of Hardy onto my laptop which had gutsy
before. I dont remember this being a problem back then.

[Bug 219294] Re: xterm segfaults randomly

2008-04-26 Thread Mattias Jansson
Same problem for me. I just upgraded to Heron, and I've noticed that
Xterm sometimes works and sometimes does not. For example, I just tried
all the xterm commands which tadowguy filled in in the first post, and
they sometimes worked, and sometimes did not. (yes, I re-ran them a
couple times).

Right now I've discovered that xterm +sb worked four times in a row.
It seems to work every time.

$ xterm -sb
Segmentation fault
$ echo $?
139

package name:
$ dpkg -S $(which xterm)
xterm: /usr/bin/xterm

my version of Xterm:
$ xterm -version
XTerm(229)

I cant find a core dump (I've set 'ulimit -c 1024') in pwd nor in
/var/crash.

[Bug 152460] grub install phase in 7.10 server install CD hangs

2007-10-13 Thread Mattias Jansson
Public bug reported:

Installing gutsy server (downloaded today, the 13th of October,
ubuntu-7.10-rc-server-i386.iso) on an intel machine. The machine has the
following disk config:
sda1 raid
sdb1 raid
sdc1 root (ext3)
sdc2 swap
sdd1 raid
sde1 raid

sda1 and sdb1 belong to MD0
sdd1 and sde1 belong to MD1

MD0 and MD1 belong to one logical volume.

Until I got to the Installing GRUB boot loader, the installation was a
breeze. Now, its been stuck at the 50% point for the last 30 minutes.
The text under the progress bar is 'Running grub-install (hd0)...'.

The installation is stuck. I've tried ctrl-c as well as hitting ESC, but
nothing happens.

The first time I tried to install I made a silly mistake, and rebooted-
but then I remember that I saw that my 40G disk (which contains the root
and swap partitions) were labeled sda, not sdc. Could this be an issue?

Hope this bug report helps!

[Bug 152460] Re: grub install phase in 7.10 server install CD hangs

2007-10-13 Thread Mattias Jansson
K, after a while (say total 30 minutes?) the installer jumped out from
the hung state and said that the installation was complete. I jumped
into a shell from the install cd without rebooting and looked around,
and afaict the file system (sdc1) looked fine.

But I couldnt tell if the boot loader was installed correctly.

I saved the install logs and rebooted, and the machine cannot boot- Grub
started up, and after waiting for me a few seconds to enter the menu, it
continued, and gave me this error message:

Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition
Press any key to continue...

I'll attach the logs as soon as I manage to get them, they're located on
sdc1.

[Bug 152460] Re: grub install phase in 7.10 server install CD hangs

2007-10-13 Thread Mattias Jansson
Succeed in booting machine.

K, rebooted machine, on grub startup I entered the grub shell. There I wrote
the following:
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz... (cant remember string, but it was the kernel
anyway)
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd (again, cant remember exact string)
boot

After this, it all started up, but I got stuck on mounting the root
partition (doh! forgot to pass root= param to kernel...)

Anyway, I'll just get the machine up so I can see what happened. to be
continued.

[Bug 152460] Re: grub install phase in 7.10 server install CD hangs

2007-10-13 Thread Mattias Jansson
alright, found the problem. Booted in on a systemrescuecd I had lying
around, and found that /boot/grub/menu.1st was set incorrectly- the root
partition was set to (hd2,0) instead of (hd0,0).

Seems it has something to do with that which I noticed when installing
the first time, that the primary disk (what used to be called /dev/hda)
was displayed as sdc instead of sda (thus resulting in hd2 instead of
hd0).

Im up and running now, all other references to the disk seem to be done
via UUID, which (I've checked) is correct.

QED? I hope so.

[Bug 113152] Re: Maximizing and restoring windows in Ubuntu 7.04

2007-09-06 Thread Mattias Jansson
I can also confirm this- I just installed feisty fawn on a clean system, and
when desktop-effecs is enabled I get the same result (sometimes) from
double-clicking on the titlebar. I also get it sometimes when clicking on the
maximize button. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-N19P, with an intel graphics controller:
$ lspci  | grep -i graphics
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML
Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express

My current workaround is to right-click on the afflicted application on
the taskbar and select 'unmaximize'.

Thank you.

[Bug 113152] Re: Maximizing and restoring windows in Ubuntu 7.04

2007-09-06 Thread Mattias Jansson
I just realized that I didnt write that I did not select 'wobbly
windows', nor did I select 'workspaces on a cube'. Just for the heck of
it I selected 'wobbly windows', and the problem seems to be gone.

That is, the titlebar never went greyed out and unselectable when I
turned on wobbly windows.

I then went back to desktop-effects and turned off wobbly windows- and I
was back with the bug- when maximizing a window my window manager
entered a state where I could not select the titlebar, nor anything on
it (buttons).

thanx for spending your time on this issue- but you can close the case
now.

Is this still a problem? Can you give us the Ubuntu and gcompris
version. Do any other apps exhibit the same problem? Also did you try
 setting RANDR yet? Thanks.

Re: [Bug 49500] Re: kclock.kss hangs after a while

2006-12-13 Thread Mattias Jansson
Hi,

Im afraid Im not running edgy on that machine yet, but Im beginning to
suspect that its not the fault of kclock.kss on breezy.

The fault occurs whenever a screensaver comes up- regardless of which
one. Im guessing that it might have to do with BIOS's energy saving
functions. Not confirmed, but its a strong suspicion.

I'll go check it out tomorrow (not at physical location atm)

Thanks for following up on the bug report!

Best Regards
Mattias

May you confirm us if that bug can be reproduced on kubuntu (edgy)?

 Thanks in advance

[Bug 70452] gcompris segfaults when started in xinerama

2006-11-05 Thread Mattias Jansson
Public bug reported:

well, I think its the xinerama anyway. I had just installed it using the
'add/remove' icon in the Applications menu. After it finished installing
I clicked on its link in the menu.

When started from cli, I get the following error:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ gcompris

** (gcompris:29035): WARNING **: config_file
/home/fimblo/.gcompris/gcompris.conf
** Message: gcompris_set_locale ''

** (gcompris:29035): WARNING **: Requested locale '' got 'en_US.UTF-8'
open /dev/sequencer: No such file or directory
Opened audio at 44100 Hz 16 bit stereo, 2048 bytes audio buffer
Xlib: extension RANDR missing on display :0.0.
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

The only thing different on my computer to other ones (as far as I can
tell) is my xorg.conf. I guess it might work if I set RANDR in my
display, but I havent tested that yet.
