[Bug 212019] [NEW] Shutdown and reboot troubles with a smbfs or cifs mounted Samba share

2008-04-04 Thread Maximilian Blömer
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I have Problems with reboot oder shutdown when a smb share is mounted in
fstab

what to do to reproduce this:
1. install ubtuntu 8.04 beta and update it with latest packages from the repos
2. install smbfs
3. # mkdir /media/Fileserver
4. Add to /etc/fstab: //server/fileserver /media/Fileserver smbfs (or cifs)
defaults,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 0
5. # mount -a
6. your SMB share will appear on Desktop
7. shutdown or reboot your system
8. it will hang and you will get something like “CIFS VFS: server not
responding. No response for cmd 50 ...”

this worked on my mashines to fix it:

cd /etc/rc0.d

# mv S31umountnfs.sh K15umountnfs.sh

cd /etc/rc6.d

# mv S31umountnfs.sh K15umountnfs.sh

But it is really annoying to do all those steps on a new PC setup. (an
we have lot of them with ubuntu)

It would be great to have a easier and faster way to create network smb
filesystem on a client PC.

Regards
Maximilian

[Bug 212015] [NEW] Automatic time-set sbackup on smb share is not working while manual backup is working

2008-04-04 Thread Maximilian Blömer
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I have Problems with sbackup 0.10.4 and samba shares using it on ubuntu
8.04 hardy with recent updates.

Reproduce this by:
1. install sbackup from the hardy repos
2. open Backup Properties program
3. choose “use recommended backup settings”
4. switch to “use custom backup settings”
5. modify Tab Destination: use a remote directory. Past an address to a samba
share (e.g. smb://buero-server/fileserver/backups/sbackup/max-notebook)
6. run the “Test” button on the right side of the editfield
7. get a green ball on the left: “Target dir is writable”
8. klick on the Button “Safe” and than “Backup Now!”
9. it will work and create a .ful backup on your smb share

however, time-set automated backup will not work:
10. choose Tab “Time”, set Do backups to hourly, press Safe
11. wait an hour or previously set a precise time to not wait so long
12. nothing will happen on your smb share, not even a folder will be created

Setting destination to /var/backup or any other folder or mount the smb
share with smbfs or cifs will work.

I am wondering, why manual backups on the Samba share is working an
automated backups do not.

My sbackup.conf is attached. If you need more information about this
problem, let me know.

Maximilian

since latest Gutsy updates (14th october) CPU fan of my Dell 6400 (one
of those shipped with ubuntu in Europe. similar to the E1505) is really
noisy. I haven't had that problem with Gutsy-Beta or Feisty. Now usually
five minutes after startup the fan goes to 100% loundness. I haven't
heard my CPU fan before the latest updates.

regards
Maximilian

[Bug 137963] Re: [Gusty] ipw3945abg does not work with 802.11b-only WLANs

2007-10-07 Thread Maximilian Blömer
Today I installed Gusty to my hard disk drive. (by the way: it's great.)
But wireless lan ipw3945 is still really slow in downloading stuff from
local area network or internet.

modinfo ipw3945 shows version 1.2.2mp.ubuntu1. it seems to be the most actual
driver.
but modinfo ieee80211 returns git-1.1.13 as version (2006-Mar-31) in gusty.

maybe it would fix some bugs in gusty, when using the most actual version of
ieee80211 subsystem. (1.2.18)

[Bug 103210] Re: ipw3945 Wifi connection is very slow

2007-10-04 Thread Maximilian Blömer
> Seems better. But what exactly does set_mode 4 do? Open the gates? ;-)

  set_mode
Can be used to configure which IEEE 802.11 mode the driver will
support.

Usage:
% iwpriv eth1 set_mode {mode}
Where {mode} is a number in the range 1-7:
1 802.11a (ABG only)
2 802.11b
3 802.11ab (ABG only)
4 802.11g
5 802.11ag (ABG only)
6 802.11bg
7 802.11abg (ABG only)

look at: http://ipw3945.sourceforge.net/README.ipw3945

so set_mode 4 configures your 3945 wifi card to 802.11g Mode.

I have those speed-problems with a 802.11b-Only router. so i tried
"set_mode 2". with no change in speed.
