Agree with #42. It does not seem to be a kernel related problem. Seems the NetworkManager software is having some issue, I installed wicd and it is working like a charm on the same connection. NetworkManager was reconnecting every 3 minutes. @Steve your explanation is not correct. I have upgraded to latest ubuntu 9.04. Now all my file browsers hangs (nautilus, dolphin, konqueror) when nfs server is not available. As I have stated when I logged the bug, nfs when disconnected hangs everything. Interestingly though running the script umountnfs.sh in /etc/init.d resolves the problem, which means unmounting solves the problem. I do not know who has to fix this as a user I feel it is ubuntu bug. If you feel it is not nfs issue, please include the package which you think is the issue. I do not think nautilus, konqueror or dolphin are the issue as problem would not occur in all three when nfs mount i not available. Though luck.. after the scan using scan disk, firefox has behaved properly this time. I had done a immediate reboot using the sysrq magic keys. Might be that had created this problem. I am using jaunty with kde4.2. I have some folders mounted in office and some other folders mounted in home. e.g. /company is mounting a windows shared folder in the office using samba. While the /homefolder is mounting a nfs shared folder in my htpc. I go from my home and office every day so I normally suspend my computer and take it back and forth. Whenever I have these folders mounted and I open dolphin or konqueror to access the /home/myhome, the applications hang. I have to either use terminal to go the folder and open the file or I have to reboot the computer. Ok here is the thing I have found. OO follows the theme of my desktop when I am in gnome. If I change the color or themes it gets reflected in OO too. I do the same in qt with gtk-qt-engine but the color or the style or fonts do not work out for OO. This makes me feel that OO is reading some other things compared to what gtk-qt is changing. My firefox is taking the setting in the gtk-qt but OO would never take this. This has happened only in KDE4. I recall in KDE3.5 this was not an issue. Public bug reported: So, here is the sequence of event which has resulted in this bug. I have configured two imap with different ids on my gmail accounts. Do not open the kde wallet or network manager on login. Kontact will ask for credentials to open kde wallet. Press cancel. Then kontact will ask for user id and password for accessing the imap server. If I do this kontact deletes one of my account and sets the imap server of the remaining account to blank and it continuously keeps giving me error of unknown host. [Bug 189318] [NEW] tty not working
Public bug reported: I am facing this strange issue. the tty where working earlier when I used to press ctrl + alt + F1 thru F6. Now, suddenly it has stopped working and seems I am not the only one facing this issue. [Bug 164120] Re: nautilus hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible
I am still getting this error and it is forcing me to shutdown my ubuntu every day. I have found that issue is probably in gnome-mount extension. Nautilus simply hangs and it does not do anything after printing line Initializing gnome-mount extension. [Bug 160655] toshiba m500 no sound

I dual boot so, if I go into windows xp and mute the sound, now I again reboot and go into ubuntu then there is no sound at all. Is it possible to get local subscription implemented in evolution like it is there in Kmail, where even if your IMAP does not support subscription you can filter locally and so you see only locally subscribed folder. I know this might not be in scope of ubuntu but it would be good if you can pass on this enhancement to evolution team. If that is the case there is some inconsistency. When I click on show only subscribed folder and then manually select only certain folders in the Folder ---> subscription, the folders do go off, so evolution would be storing the details some where in the memory to not display them to me but it does not store if on the drive. Attached is the output of the command. I am not sure if there is any back trace in that or not. However, I feel there is some connection with the nfs mounts here. I am running ubuntu on the laptop and having some folders mounted via nfs and i put my laptop to sleep and bring it to my office. Nautilus was accessing one of the folder in the nfs mount. [Bug 158504] gnome panel hangs after suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I am using gutsy with compiz fusion effects enabled. After I suspend the computer, it goes to sleep without any problem. But after waking up I get a notification stating there was some problem in suspending your computer and then gnome panel hangs not all but the applications, places, system hangs, along with the launcher i have put on the panel. They do not respond on left click. Other icons like deskbar etc. can alteast take right clicks, no left click work on them. I am using right handed mouse. I tried killing gnome-panel to no help. I logged out and logged in but no fix. I have to reboot to get gnome working again. I have mine set to slight and it works perfectly for all apps only open office does not use it. Also, this bug is in there for almost a year now. Not sure what fixes are being done on this bug. Though there is some improvement it is not fully fixed. The difference is clearly visible in the menu text.
