[Bug 942043] Re: Ubuntu does not shutdown properly due to wrong symlinks in runlevel 0 and 6

2012-02-29 Thread Metabaronen
** Description changed:

  Description: Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
  Release: 10.04

  initscripts: 2.87dsf-4ubuntu17.5

I expect my system to kill all processes, umount all volumes gracefully
  or forcefully.

By default the symlinks for umountfs, umountroot, sendsigs, reboot and
umountnfs.sh are created as S-links (start) but the scripts only handles
the stop option. The scripts should be installed as K-scripts or
disabled in case upstart should handle these.

Note: upstart doesn't handle stale processes before running it's umount
-a in mountall-shell.conf so any left process will cause a blocked
umount and an unclean file system and a fsck on boot.

A workaround is to manually change the boot order.

+ [Edit]
+ System specification:
+ 64G memory
+ 2 AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 6172 (24 cores)
+ x86_64

[Bug 942043] Re: Ubuntu does not shutdown properly due to wrong symlinks in runlevel 0 and 6

2012-02-29 Thread Metabaronen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 858122 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/858122

The bug report #858122 doesn't deal with the fact that scripts are
linked as Start rather then Stop. I think that #858122 should deal with
the problem but until then it should not be a duplicate. I've placed a
comment about it but there is no related discussion.

[Bug 858122] Re: incomplete migration to /run (shutdown script order has been demolished)

2012-02-27 Thread Metabaronen
Just a note... I can't get why the sendsig (for example) does have a
S-link. The script does only handle stop (start is a no-op). Same goes
for umountfs etc.

someone undo the Status change? I can't undo it myself :-/

[Bug 842746] [NEW] libreadline5-dev should provide libreadline-dev

2011-09-06 Thread Metabaronen
Public bug reported:

Description: Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
Release: 10.04
Package: libreadline5-dev 5.2-7build1

libreadline6-dev provides libreadline-dev but libreadline5-dev does not.
But lib32readline5-dev does provide lib32readline-dev.

It's a problem with swi-prolog since it requires libreadline-dev.

[Bug 694953] [NEW] missing i386 libraries on amd64

2010-12-28 Thread Metabaronen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: winbind

It is common to use 32 bit proprietary applications like flashplayer, citrix
and acrobat on a amd64 system. The NSS libraries are a vital part of the system
as it enables programs to lookup user and group information.
To solve this problem today we have to extract the nss library from the 32 bit
package and install it by hand. I think that this should be provided by the
winbind package.

Please add the 32 bit nss_winbind library to the winbind package for
amd64.

[Bug 605299] Re: missing i386 libraries on amd64

2010-12-12 Thread Metabaronen
I don't deploy this package no more so we are not affected anymore.

But I feel the need to say that if a PAM module provider have a serious
approach they must take the problem to run i386 programs on an amd64
system seriously.

[Bug 605299] [NEW] missing i386 libraries on amd64

2010-07-14 Thread Metabaronen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: likewise-open

Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

likewise-open:
  Installed: 5.4.0.42111-2ubuntu1

We currently got tools written in java that must run in a i386 java
version. There are no i386 libraries provided by likewise-open so user
and group lookups fails. Workarounds for this is to install nscd or pick
and install libraries from a i386 installation (unmaintainable).

Public bug reported:

[Bug 475679] Re: Mapping a Windows DFS share doesn't properly show me the filesystem.

2010-01-11 Thread Metabaronen
This is a problem at our site. We need to use a workaround where we use
smbclient -k '\\dfs\path\' -c 'list' to get the real path to the server.
Windows administrators feels the need to move things around so we can't
publish the real path instead.

I would like to have importance elevated to at least medium.
