I have the same problem. I tried both amd64 and i386 versions of gutsy and used bcm43xx-fwcutter (through restricted-manager) to get the firmware. My computer is HP notebook (dv6510ew). In fwcutter I used the firmware from internet link that was provided. I also tried extracting firmware from windows vista driver (bcmwl6.sys) but fwcutter told me that this file doesn't contain any firmware. I don't know what the problem may be, because the card is listed as compatibile with the bcm43xx driver. So maybe firmware is incorrect, if so restricted-manager should check it and point proper firmware to me. With these errors card is listed in iwconfig but can't find any network (and network is present because on windows it gets detected with about 80% strenght). This means that probably three separate packages will be needed for nvidia drivers as described in above appendix. As Sitsofe Wheeler noted in his comment (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/91064/comments/7) we need these three branches: o Legacy 71xx drivers (broadly GeForce 2 and below) (now nvidia-glx-legacy) o New legacy 96xx (broadly GeForce 2MX- GeForce 4 4000) o "Supported" new drivers (broadly GeForce 5000 and above) (now nvidia-glx) If it's not fixed soon it will make a real mess with drivers when 1.0-97xx series are in the main repositories because many people still use GeForce 4 cards (which are most affected) and restricted-manager will assume that the card needs nvidia-glx package. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Third package for nvidia-glx is needed https://launchpad.net/bugs/96611 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 37707] Re: language-selector must check that it dosn't affect non-langpacks when it installs packages
I've also noticed one thing. Even that I selected polish language at install, not everything is in polish. GDM is still in english, gksudo frontend is also in english when I start some administrative application. AFAIR the situation was the same in edgy. Should I file a new bug about it? -- language-selector must check that it dosn't affect non-langpacks when it installs packages https://launchpad.net/bugs/37707 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 37707] Re: language-selector must check that it dosn't affect non-langpacks when it installs packages
I'm just installing xubuntu 7.04 beta and because I selected polish language in the first page of the installer it is downloading openoffice. The same occurred in Edgy. Probably language-selector has preset list of packages to install regardless of the system type (xubuntu, ubuntu, kubuntu). Probably there should be diffrent lists for diffrent systems. -- language-selector must check that it dosn't affect non-langpacks when it installs packages https://launchpad.net/bugs/37707 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 91064] Re: nvidia-glx-legacy has disabled GL by default
So, now we will need three packages for nvidia drivers. nvidia-glx nvidia-glx-legacy nvidia-glx-even-more-legacy :) I looked into my xorg.conf file in my other system (gentoo) where I have GeForce 6600. It didn't have AllowGLXWithComposite set and the acceleration was working so probably we don't need this option with latest drivers. However I need: Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true" to be set in "Screen" section to have Beryl running properly. Without it, Beryl didn't show windows decorations (however everything else, like wobbly windows, cube) was working. -- nvidia-glx-legacy has disabled GL by default https://launchpad.net/bugs/91064 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 91064] Re: nvidia-glx-legacy has disabled GL by default
The problem is also present with restricted-manager. When nvidia legacy driver is installed it cannot handle composite extension. So, either composite should be disabled with driver installation or Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true" should be added to Device section in xorg.conf . So, I can confirm the bug. It was present in edgy and now in Feisty it's still there. -- nvidia-glx-legacy has disabled GL by default https://launchpad.net/bugs/91064 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 92849] Re: Restricted drivers manager damages my xorg.conf [Nvidia Legacy Drivers]
There is however still a little problem. When I used restricted-manager to intall driver for my GeForce2 GTS it didn't set the xorg configuration correctly. By default, composite extension is turned on in Ubuntu. But nvidia-legacy driver can't handle GLX with Composite extension without AllowGLXwithComposite option. So after installation of this driver I still didn't have 3d graphics. I think that restricted- manager should automatically turn off composite extension or add AllowGLXwithComposite option. -- Restricted drivers manager damages my xorg.conf [Nvidia Legacy Drivers] https://launchpad.net/bugs/92849 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 92849] Re: Restricted drivers manager damages my xorg.conf [Nvidia Legacy Drivers]
In my case the restricted-manager found that I have legacy card (GeForce2 GTS), it showed "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (legacy cards)", but nevertheless when I clicked "Enable" it installed the nvidia-glx package instead of nvidia-glx-legacy. Then it completely messed up the xorg.conf file setting some ridiculous driver: Section "Device" Identifier "Generic Video Card" Driver "apm" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" VideoRam64000 EndSection apm is the first driver in the xorg driver list and it looks like it just picked up the first one one the list. Of course the system refused to launch X after these changes so I manually set xorg.conf to use "nv" driver again. I think this is very important to resolve this bug soon. Restricted-manager should better know which driver to install and handle modifications of xorg.conf better. -- Restricted drivers manager damages my xorg.conf [Nvidia Legacy Drivers] https://launchpad.net/bugs/92849 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 72733] Re: Crash on GRUB install
I can confirm that bug. In my case it occurs both on GUI installer and on text-mode installer. On GUI I have exactly the same error message. I'ts probably not the matter of free disc space because there is still about 500mb of free space after the failed installation.
