GNOME Shell already has a nice system monitor
(https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/120/system-monitor/), so I'm not
sure it is worth the hassle to fix the indicator.

too.

[Bug 1665950] Re: Using GB instad of GiB in indicator-multiload popup

2017-02-24 Thread Michael Hofmann
I've added a size2 function that uses IEC units in trunk, but at the
moment, I'm not going to change the default menu entries, as reasoning
about anything in base-2 units gets really complicated really fast.

A compiled version can be found at https://launchpad.net/~indicator-
multiload/+archive/ubuntu/daily. You can then adjust the menu entries
yourself.

Hope that helps!

[Bug 1571547] [NEW] adb shell escaping different from original Google version

2016-04-18 Thread Michael Hofmann
Public bug reported:

The parsing of the parameters to "adb shell" is different between the

[Bug 1438936] Re: indicator-multiload needs padding to avoid panel item location jitters

2015-04-01 Thread Michael Hofmann
It is not so easy and I never got any feedback that it was used.

There is no easy solution for the padding, the only way I can think of
is to format everything in a way that the width of the text never
changes. Digits are normally all the same width, so that means sticking
to one unit per shown information (eg kB) and maybe using 'FIGURE SPACE'
(U+2007) unicode characters.

[Bug 1014494] Re: Improper display on Xfce 4.10/Cinnamon running on Ubuntu 12.04/Mint

2014-10-16 Thread Michael Hofmann
Hi all,

I still don't think that the indicator can do much about this. The
indicator has been working on Ubuntu (Unity) for the last couple of
years without any changes. As the indicator API was created by
Ubuntu/Canonical for this desktop environment (DE), I tend to blame any
differences in behavior elsewhere on the DE in question. The same goes
for the system tray support: if it works with stalonetray, it is most
likely a problem with the system tray support of the DE.

I'm sorry that I cannot do more about this. Really your best hope is to
file a bug in the bug tracker of the DE, and try to work with the
developers there to fix their appindicator support. If it does not work
with Unity/stalonetray or if you can at least provide some idea/code how
I can help with the situation, I'm all ears :-)

[Bug 784055] Re: compiz CPU usage increases dramatically when running indicator-multiload

2014-04-22 Thread Michael Hofmann
Hi Marco,

would it help if the indicator would swap between icons that have a
different name each time? Somebody would still need to make sure that
the cache has an upper limit of cached icons...

Michael

[Bug 1249687] Re: no tooltip on hover over indicator in panel

2013-11-12 Thread Michael Hofmann
Dear Wastrel,

thanks for your bug report. This is not possible (as far as I know)
because of design considerations of the indicators. Therefore I'm
closing it as invalid as I don't see a way to get this implemented.

Best regards
  Michael

[Bug 1014494] Re: Improper display on Xfce 4.10/Cinnamon running on Ubuntu 12.04/Mint

2013-03-25 Thread Michael Hofmann
Hi Pablo,

you can try the version at ppa:indicator-multiload/daily which has a
--trayicon parameter to force the icon to appear in the system tray. But
when I tried it with a Xubuntu 12.10 live CD, it seemed as if it was
scaled to 50% of the height, although the width was correct.

Michael

I checked a couple of desktops whether they resize/clip the system tray (with
--trayicon) or appindicators:
+Ubuntu 12.04: indicator - OK
+Ubuntu 2D 12.04: indicator - OK
+Ubuntu 12.10: indicator - OK
+Ubuntu 13.04: indicator - OK
-Lubuntu 12.04: tray - normal size, but clipped square
-Lubuntu 12.04: indicator - resized to fit square
-Lubuntu 12.04: tray - normal size, but clipped square
+Lubuntu 12.10: indicator - OK
-Xubuntu 12.10: tray - resized to 50% of the menu bar height??
-Xubuntu 12.10: indicator - resized to fit square

[Bug 905854] Re: memory leak in unity-2d-panel and indicator-multiload

I don't know whether there exists a bug for this precise problem.
Relevant valgrind logs are at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-2d/+bug/905854/comments/26 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-multiload/+bug/1101810/comments/5.

I will implement sth. to restart the indicator if it leaks too much
memory, but this will only help with memory leaks in the libraries that
the indicator uses, not with leaks that are in unity(-2d), hud etc.

[Bug 905854] Re: memory leak in unity-2d-panel and indicator-multiload

2013-02-04 Thread Michael Hofmann
I fear there is nothing that can be done from the indicator side. The
leak is related to the dbus communication, which is done by
libappindicator.

[Bug 1014494] Re: Improper display on Xfce 4.10/Cinnamon/Gnome Shell running on Ubuntu 12.04/Mint

2013-02-04 Thread Michael Hofmann
Hi Pablo,

Thanks, I didn't know that this existed.

I did a test again with a 12.10 xubuntu cd, with the following results:
- with indicator-applet: square icon (too small)
- without indicator-applet -> systray: non-square-icon, as it should be

But the general conclusions still stand :-(. This is a bug/feature in
the desktop environments, and there is nothing the indicator can do
about it.

[Bug 1014494] Re: Improper display on Xfce 4.10/Cinnamon/Gnome Shell running on Ubuntu 12.04/Mint

2013-02-04 Thread Michael Hofmann
Starting from the current 0.3 version of the indicator at
https://code.launchpad.net/~indicator-multiload/+archive/daily (and also
in https://code.launchpad.net/~indicator-multiload/+archive/stable-daily
when it has finished building), the indicator is full-width on lubuntu,
unity, unity-2d and with stalonetray. It is limited to a square icon in
xubuntu and gnome-shell (where it is in the messaging tray instead of
the indicator area), but this is a limitation of the systemtray
implementation of these environments, and there is nothing the indicator
can do.

Therefore, I can only mark this bug as invalid :-(. You are free to open
a bug against the mentioned desktop environments.

[Bug 911985] Re: configuration to default by reboot

2012-01-13 Thread Michael Hofmann
This is weird. It sounds like the configuration backend
(gsettings/dconf) does not work correctly.

The configuration should be stored in your home directory in the
~/.config/dconf/user file. Could you check whether this file actually
exists, is writable and that you have enough free space in your home
directory?

It would also be interesting to start the indicator from the command
line and see whether any error messages are printed.

[Bug 887847] Re: system load indicator auto start does not work

2011-11-09 Thread Michael Hofmann
Hi Phillip, it is literally the directory ~/.config/autostart/. There is
a bug in the indicator-multiload version included in Oneiric that does
not create this directory if it does not exist (as it is the case on a
clean install). After restarting the indicator, an "indicator-
multiload.desktop" file should be created inside the autostart
directory.

--leak-check=full --num-callers=40 --log-file=valgrind.log compiz --replace"
and (after it reaches 400mb :-) attach the output here?

[Bug 779717] Re: indicator-multiload causes a memory leak in compiz when run under unity

2011-05-27 Thread Michael Hofmann
Yeah, the last unity version in the ppa was built with debug information
enabled, so I'm sorry if Unity felt a little bit slower than usual :-(.

Should be fixed now, and as long as there is no 3.8.12-0ubuntu2 version
in the ubuntu archive the ppa unity version (3.8.12-0ubuntu2~mh3) should
get installed.

The patch only affects indicators, it should not improve things for
anything else...

The package is only natty.

For oneiric, it makes more sense to push it upstream as fast as
possible.

I pushed the updated unity packages to ppa:indicator-multiload/daily and
ppa:indicator-multiload/stable-daily until the patch lands in unity.
