[Bug 877443] Re: Grid plugin incompatible with Put plugin

2012-08-22 Thread Michael Iles
Yes this is annoying. I love the grid and put plugins, they're the main
reason I find Unity/Compiz so attractive. (I also like Divvy on the Mac
for the same reason.) This used to work.

Strangely things *do* work if I do a Grid > Put Left and then Put > Put
to Next Output or Grid > Put Right and then Put > Put to Next Output. In
those two cases the window *stays* on the target monitor. Any other put
targets (e.g. 'Top left', 'Bottom', etc.) result in the window snapping
back to the original monitor.

[Bug 776999] Re: [Lenovo W520] laptop freezes on ACPI-related actions

2012-08-22 Thread Michael Iles
I'm also affected. I thought things were going well with my W520: I got
12.04 64-bit working in discrete mode with Unity3D and it was all good
until I installed VirtualBox and realized that VT-X was turned off in my
BIOS. I turned it on and then could no longer boot (I need fast virtual
machines so disabling VT-X isn't an option for me).

My current symptom is that it will boot with a lot of long pauses, show
the purple blank screen, sometimes show the 'Ubuntu' screen with four
progress dots, and eventually hang on a BusyBox screen after saying
"(initramfs)".

I think I need to go down to 32-bit.

[Bug 981161] [NEW] HUD Shows When Using Alt- Combination Within a VirtualBox Guest

2012-04-13 Thread Michael Iles
Public bug reported:

Host is Ubuntu 12.04 beta. VirtualBox guest is Ubuntu 11.10 with a bunch
of apps that I need for work. When I use an Alt- combination within the
guest (e.g. Alt-F to get a File menu) the HUD on the host shows up.
Turning off the HUD in CCSM > Unity Plugin resolves the problem.

[Bug 940603] Re: white box randomly shows up at top left corner blocking applications from using stuff under it

2012-03-29 Thread Michael Iles
Just got it now. In the past it's happened when using Google Docs but
now I got it when launching a link from my mail app into Chrome. The
white box is the same size as the Chrome window.

I also have "N/A" in CCSM > Animation > Focus Animation > Focus Effect.
I just deleted it... see whether it happens again.

[Bug 963654] Re: Dash displays keyboard shortcuts when Super + Left or Right is keyed

2012-03-27 Thread Michael Iles
Same. This is happening for me on two different machines, both upgraded
from 11.10. I've done "unity --reset" and my only subsequent changes
have been to enable the static application switcher, not sure if that
would make any difference.
