[Bug 788532] Re: U1 music store plugin severely delays banshee startup
> I wonder if we should perhaps patch [copy_on_import] out, as it is one of the worst misfeatures a music player could have. Why do you consider this a misfeature? copy_on_import + automatically renaming files and folder is a pretty critical combination of settings for people who don't want to manually manage the folder structure of thousands (or even tens of thousands) of media files. Crippling a Banshee feature to workaround an issue that is unique to the U1MS extension doesn't seem like the right approach. A couple related questions: Why doesn't U1MS store downloaded music files in the folder that has already been set aside for music files (~/Music)? Ideally, the extension should probably follow the same file naming policies that the user defines within Banshee. If this problem only happens when copy_on_import is turned on, does that mean that the U1MS extension is triggering an import of the entire ~/.ubuntuone directory every time Banshee starts? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788532 Title: U1 music store plugin severely delays banshee startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+bug/788532/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I don't necessarily agree that bug 771249 is a duplicate of this. 771249 was a FFE request with a much broader scope; it was influenced by this bug, but also by several other (more severe, imo) bugs related to track changes with gapless. But anyway, that makes little difference at this point since the request was too late for Natty. [Bug 771249] [NEW] FFE request to disable gapless playback by default in Banshee
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: banshee I realize it might be a bit too late for a Feature Freeze Exception, but I'll make my case anyway. :) Gapless Playback causes some frustrating issues in Banshee. It was discussed upstream that this feature would be disabled before the Banshee 2.0 release if some of these bugs were not fixed[1], but unfortunately, that never happened. A short synopsis of the issues: Gapless playback marks a song as 'played' at the beginning and end of the song. This means that the play count is incremented twice[2], and the song is scrobbled to Last.fm twice[3]. Gapless also breaks last.fm radio streaming by stopping playback after the second song[4]. But the issue that really prompted this FFE is the fact that gapless playback is also responsible for Banshee's broken integration with the Ubuntu sound menu[5], which displays the wrong song when gapless is enabled. When you add these flaws together, that's a pretty heavy price to pay for a gapless feature that may not actually work anyway[6]. I realize this is late notice -- the issue with the sound menu was just reported a couple days ago and just linked to the gapless feature this morning -- but if there's any way this feature could be disabled before Ubuntu Natty, I think it would definitely improve the user experience. [Bug 712070] Re: LastFm not working in Banshee
It's true that non-paying last.fm users in the US, UK, and Germany are still allowed to stream radio for free, but this only applies to the last.fm website and the official last.fm client. Using the newest Last.fm API, third party applications like Banshee are no longer allowed to stream radio to Last.fm's free users. Intentionally working around the official API to do so would probably be a violation of the Last.fm TOS (section 2.6): http://www.last.fm/api/tos For more information, see comment 1 of this Banshee bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=601612 ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #601612 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=601612 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/712070 Title: LastFm not working in Banshee -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 736631] Re: External devices not recognised at all
Like Jacob, I'm a bit curious about why this would be delayed to beta-2. As I understand it, the issue was packaging issue specific to Debian/Ubuntu, and it breaks device support in Natty's default media player. Newer packages have been available for several days, so as a user, I'm not sure I understand why they wouldn't be included in the beta release. Also, Banshee is following the Gnome release schedule, so Banshee 1.9.5 (currently included in Natty) is actually Banshee 2.0 Beta 1 -- an unstable development release. The latest version, 1.9.6, is a release candidate. Banshee 2.0 was scheduled for an April 6 release prior to the UDS decision to include Banshee by default, so I'm not sure I understand why any special measures would need to be taken to have it updated to the final, stable version when that is released. But maybe I'm just not understanding the Ubuntu release process... :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/736631 Title: External devices not recognised at all -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 670485] Re: How about supporting skins?
I just closed the upstream report. This was discussed awhile ago[1], and there were no intentions to support skinning. Banshee's look and feel comes directly from the user's GTK theme (so it's "skinnable" in that regard), and for the sake of consistency, I think the intention is to keep it that way. [Bug 582743] Re: banshee crashes upon moving to the next title
Just for the sake of clarity, it's safe to assume that this issue exists in all versions of Banshee (including even the most recent packages for Ubuntu) until the upstream bug report is marked as fixed. The problem is not specific to any certain version of Banshee; it happens when the SQLite database that Banshee uses gets corrupted -- probably as the result of a system crash or a loss of power while Banshee is running. The good news is, as Alexander said in the first comment, the database (including all of your playlists, ratings, etc) can generally be recovered in a few simple steps. Developers are working on a solution that should eventually automate this database recovery process. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to track this down and confirm it! I tried testing with a Maverick daily build around July 20, but I couldn't collect any useful information because the boot hangs 100% of the time. Now that Alpha 3 is out, I'll try again over the weekend. As far as the expired status goes, I thought the Launchpad policy was 60 days of inactivity before expiration. It's been a little more than 2 weeks since my last comment, and less than a month since you requested information. Dylan, thanks for adding to the description -- I completely agree, especially considering Lucid's LTS status. What is the process from here? FWIW, this issue completely went away when I turned off KMS in Lucid. [Bug 559170] Re: [RV515] System unusable with Compiz due to extremely slow redrawing (of menus, window movements, selections...)
Aaagh, apparently this isn't completely fixed for me, either. Sorry I was so slow to respond. Using a fully up-to-date Lucid, I run into this bug occasionally. It isn't noticeable at startup (at least it hasn't been yet), but twice so far today I've had to switch Compiz off (or restart) because the graphics had become unresponsive enough to make the system unusable. I'm not entirely sure what triggers the system to go from functional -> painful. Both times that this happened today, I first noticed it when I received a new email, which turns the messaging menu green and triggers a notification. Maybe one of these graphical events is related Anyway, I'm reopening for now. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help narrow this down. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => Confirmed -- [RV515] System unusable with Compiz due to extremely slow redrawing (of menus, window movements, selections...) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/559170 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 371102] Re: Banshee crashes a few seconds into any song while playing back an audio CD
@TylerJ, the issue is caused when third-party applications get information from Banshee via dbus. I've heard reports of this happening with the Music Applet for gnome-panel, Panflute, the Music Plugin for Cairo Dock, and the Pidgin music-tracker plugin. Turning off all of these things (or at least making sure they don't ask Banshee for information) should get rid of the problem. -- Banshee crashes a few seconds into any song while playing back an audio CD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371102 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 559170] Re: [Lucid Beta 2] System unusable with Compiz due to extremely slow redrawing (of menus, window movements, selections...)
I got RecordMyDesktop to work, so here's a short video showing the problem. I forgot to include moving or resizing a window in this clip, but by seeing the how slow the menus are, you can probably imagine how long it takes to move windows around. ** Attachment added: "out-1.ogv" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/43542002/out-1.ogv ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon Using a default installation of Lucid Beta 2 (installed onto a USB stick), the system is borderline unusable because of extremely slow visual response. This was the case with a daily build that I tested several days ago, as well as both a default and an up-to-date installation of Beta 2. These issues only happen with Compiz enabled. Clicking on 'Applications' quickly pops up the menu (though not with the smooth fade I've come to expect from Compiz). When I move my mouse from 'Applications' to 'Places,' though, it takes nearly 3 seconds to hide the 'Applications' menu and draw the 'Places' menu. Similarly, attempting to resize or move a window does nothing for the first couple seconds, and when the window does finally move, the redrawing is choppier than an uncomposited Metacity. [Bug 529740] Re: I uninstalled MythTV, but I can still run the software
With a little investigation, it turns out that this is definitely specific to the way the MythTV packages work. apt-get autoremove found ~120mb of MythTV cruft lying around even after uninstalling it from the Software Center (mythtv-themes, mythtv-database, mythtv-backend, mythtv- frontend, and a whole bunch of mysql server packages). I installed all of these things using the MythTV Backend Setup package, which seems to be sort of a meta-package. When I uninstalled the MythTV Frontend from the Software Center, it marked the Backend Setup package as uninstalled as well. I'm not really sure what the appropriate way to handle this is. From a user standpoint, it seems like if I install something from the Software Center, removing it from the SC shouldn't leave 120 MB of unused packages around. I realize that working with the un/installation of metapackages presents tricky situations, and it's probably being discussed in a bug report with a larger scope somewhere. If anyone knows of one of those reports and thinks it's appropriate to close this report as a duplicate, I'd probably agree with that resolution. -- I uninstalled MythTV, but I can still run the software https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529740 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 529740] [NEW] I uninstalled MythTV, but I can still run the software
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: software-center I installed the MythTV Frontend and Backend a few days ago from the Karmic repositories. For a few days, this worked, but I ran into some MythTV database issues that I couldn't seem to fix. I thought that uninstalling and reinstalling the software might help. This is where the problem started... steps to reproduce (steps in parentheses are probably not essential): 1. Install MythTV frontend in Karmic using the Software Center. (1a. Configure the Backend using the mythtv-setup command) (1b. Restart your computer a few times) 2. Uninstall the MythTV frontend using the Software Center. This automatically uninstalls the backend as well, I think. (2a. Restart your computer.) At this point, you would expect MythTV to be gone, but if you run 'mythfrontend' or 'mythtv-setup' from the command line, you can still run the software. Actually, if I look in my menus, all the icons for MythTV are still there, and they're still functional. Uninstalling seemed to do absolutely nothing. If I reinstall it at this point, I highly doubt it will function like a clean installation, which was my original goal. I'm blaming this on software-center because that's visibly what seems to be the problem. In reality, this could be a problem with MythTV or dpkg. I have no idea. ** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- I uninstalled MythTV, but I can still run the software https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529740 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Lu, you can probably disregard my last comment ;) I see after reading your earlier post that you are hoping to sync a Nano to multiple playlists, which would very much be an extension of this bug... just like you said... :) You might want to run that by Banshee developers either in IRC or on the mailing list (or in a new report in Banshee's bugzilla). With more than 20 duplicates, there are a lot of people subscribed to this bug who get emails every time someone posts something. For their sake, please try to keep comments here related to the issue at hand (the position of notifications in Karmic). Really, even that topic has been hashed out pretty thoroughly by now, so comments at this point should be minimal. For people wishing to discuss the color of notifications, the time-out of notifications, the ability to close notifications, and the click- through behavior of notifications, please take Mirco Müller's advice and move those conversations to the Ayatana mailing list. [Bug 479732] Re: cannot copy playlist from library to iPod
@WeatherGod I poked around on the internet a bit and found this[1]. Sounds like if you want to regularly use a Mac-formatted iPod with Linux, the best way to do it is to use OS X to reformat it as HSF+ with journaling off - the iPod is formatted with journaling on by default, and apparently Linux doesn't like that so much. Anyway, we should probably let the conversation for this bug get back on track ;) [1] http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=598477 -- cannot copy playlist from library to iPod https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/479732 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 365630] Re: Banshee streaming video podcasts leaks memory... a lot!
I was unable to reproduce this issue using Banshee from Git with the xml podcast subscription mentioned in the original report. Banshee's memory usage was originally around 55MiB for me. I subscribed to the podcast that was mentioned in the report, downloaded the most recent 5 episodes, and watched the video podcast for a little over 10 minutes. Banshee's memory usage leveled off at about 73MiB for me and any growth while watching the downloaded podcast was negligible. For those who are seeing this issue: Are there specific podcast subscriptions that cause this issue for you? I'm more than willing to test other subscriptions. Is it always video podcasts, or do audio-only podcasts cause the issue as well? At what point is the memory leaking? when you download the podcasts? when Banshee switches between podcasts? during playback? If the issue is happening during playback, as the reporter said, how many megabytes are leaking per minute? If you're experiencing this issue, it would be helpful if you would download a development build of Banshee, more recent than 1.5.1. If you're using Karmic, you can update your Banshee by adding the Banshee Daily PPA[1] to your Software Sources and checking for updates. In my experience, the development version of Banshee is very stable, but if you want to be safe, you may want to back up your Banshee database before updating (run in terminal "cd ~/.config/banshee-1/ && cp banshee.db banshee.db.backup" without quotes). [Bug 479732] Re: cannot copy playlist from library to iPod
@Micah, did you do anything special to get Banshee to recognize your iPod? Banshee + Ubuntu 9.10 + iPod support is generally not a winning combination right now. Just to reproduce this bug, I had to kill Nautilus, plug my iPod in, start Banshee, then restart Nautilus. If your iPod "just works" in Banshee right now, that's a bit of a miracle itself. :) I think I know what you mean when you say "looks like it copies." From my tests, Banshee seems to add all of the songs from the playlist that you drag (Banshee shows the "adding" progress bar), but it doesn't actually create the playlist entry in the iPod's database. Basically dragging and dropping a playlist to your iPod adds the songs from the playlist, but it doesn't actually add the playlist. If that's the issue you're having, then I think it's safe to confirm this. I was pretty sure I remembered seeing this bug in Banshee's Bugzilla tracking system, but I just skimmed through all bugs with the words iPod, playlist, or drag in the title and I couldn't find anything. -- cannot copy playlist from library to iPod https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/479732 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 415937] Re: Error Loading Last.fm Station - The remote server returned an error: (410) Gone.
I'm not sure why an older bug report with more information was closed as a duplicate of this one, but for those who are interested: 1. This problem in Banshee is caused by the new Last.fm radio API. The old API stopped working in March, but Banshee hasn't yet updated to the new one. This should only affect streaming Last.fm radio; scrobbling and recommendations should work normally. 2. This bug is indeed still an issue in the latest Banshee, and while it's a big bummer for people who love Banshee and Last.fm, developers are aware of it and working on it. 3. There's a separate git branch that has some developmental Last.fm stuff. I can't remember exactly, but I think this issue is being addressed there. If you're brave, I'm sure developers would love if you would help test http://gitorious.org/~bl8/banshee/bl8-clone. I'm not sure how the database from that branch matches up with 1.5.1's database, so make sure you backup your banshee.db file before you try it out. Feel free to add to this conversation at the upstream bug report (gnome- bugs #541227), and until that bug report is closed, it's safe to assume that this is still an issue. -- Error Loading Last.fm Station - The remote server returned an error: (410) Gone. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415937 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 397674] Re: banshee can no longer play last.fm streams
I'm sorry, @grahams1, usually I don't take flame bait like that, but honestly, your comment was just too much. What positive work have you contributed to the project? Did you create a patch? Did you test the branch of Banshee that I linked to? If so, developers could really use your useful feedback. Your comment, however, was not useful. This is the world of open source, and you're free to stop using a product at anytime. Telling the world that you're doing so in a bug report, and declaring the project as "dead" is just going to annoy people. Ironically enough, you declared the project "dead" only a few hours after a new release. I'm sorry that the latest release doesn't fix Last.fm radio; for that you can always use the official Last.fm client (http://www.last.fm/download). And in the future, please think through your comment a little bit more before posting them to Launchpad. -- banshee can no longer play last.fm streams https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/397674 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 434789] Re: Notifications appear too low
I'm sorry if reopening this breaks Launchpad protocol, but I don't think "It's a design decision" is enough reason to invalidate a report that many people clearly consider a bug. If the reason behind the design decision is "predictability," as stated earlier, then the growing number of comments here suggests that the reasoning is flawed. It seems like a larger number of people testing Karmic means a larger number of people adding "me too" comments to this closed bug report, so I'm reopening it in hopes that developers will seriously reconsider this before it's too late for Karmic. ** Changed in: notify-osd (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- Notifications appear too low https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/434789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 371767] Re: Shows no icon in indicator-applet
If you're closing a 5-month-old enhancement request as Won't Fix, it would be nice to provide some reasoning. Personally, I agree that applications are more easily identified by their icon than text alone. Since the indicator-applet list has the potential to get fairly long (assuming more applications will use it in the future), it could get fairly difficult to find things. -- Shows no icon in indicator-applet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371767 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 378613] Re: banshee won't start on Jaunty powerpc (Mono.Data.SQLiteClient exception thrown)
A fix was committed several days ago. I'll mark this as such (isn't that what Bug Watch Updater is for?) -- banshee won't start on Jaunty powerpc (Mono.Data.SQLiteClient exception thrown) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378613 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 378613] Re: banshee won't start on Jaunty powerpc (Mono.Data.SQLiteClient exception thrown)
hmm, a warning here says that bgo#547218 doesn't exist (it does). Apparently I can't update it manually until the Remote Watch is turned off. Should I do that? Something seems wrong here... maybe someone with more Launchpad experience than me has some suggestions. -- banshee won't start on Jaunty powerpc (Mono.Data.SQLiteClient exception thrown) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378613 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 434789] Re: Notifications appear too low
I'm certainly not trying to sound like an insistent jerk, but it seems like putting all notifications in the same place is more predictable than dividing notes into classes that that won't be immediately obvious to many users. "I predict that the next notification will be in the top-right corner of the screen" is a much simpler prediction than "I predict that the next notification will be in the top-right corner if I cause the notification, but moved down a slot if an application causes the notification." The logic is more complex, notifications take up more valuable screen real estate, and the user interface doesn't look as consistent. If this change really increased predictability, no one ever would have thought it was a bug in the first place. I won't be surprised if this gets several duplicates once Karmic is released. -- Notifications appear too low https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/434789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 433330] Re: lost Free Cell on 9.10
Just to clarify, Free Cell can be run with the command "sol --freecell", the problem is that there is no launcher for Free Cell. -- lost Free Cell on 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/40 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 420005] Re: black wins too easy... black has too many moves at once, human has only one. This game is invalid.
What do you mean "too many moves at ones" ? If there are no possible moves for player1, then player2 continues making moves until it is possible for player1 to make a move. If the computer makes several moves in a row, it simply means that you couldn't have made any legal moves. Assuming I haven't misinterpreted you, this is not a bug in the game. I'm marking this as Invalid. If I misunderstood you, feel free to provide more information and reopen it. ** Changed in: gnome-games (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- black wins too easy... black has too many moves at once, human has only one.
