[Bug 993867] Re: Xoscope package lacks pulseaudio-esound-compat as dependency

2015-02-09 Thread Michael Mayer
I installed xoscope on ubuntu 14.4. and discovered that this bug is not
fully fixed.

xoscope only works after a reboot or a manual restart of pulseaudio by
issueing the command "pulseaudio -k".

suggested fix:
add a post-installation action to restart pulseaudio automatically. Add the
file DEBIAN/postinst to the package:

#!/bin/sh
pulseaudio -k

[Bug 557810] Re: X system crash after user change

2010-04-07 Thread Michael Mayer
Did some more testing now. It is easy reproduceable for me:
1. boot to gdm
2. log in as main user (uid 1000). Maybe any user will do, I always tried the
main account.
3. use "change user" function to change to secondary user (uid 1001). gdm
appears, log in, desktop appears. Fine so far.
4. open a window. I tried mozilla, thunderbird and gnome-terminal, any of these
three will do, probably any other program as well as long as it opens a window.
5. close the program again. For mozilla or thunderbird I pressed ctrl-w, for
gnome-terminal I typed "exit"
6. use log off function

Now screen gets black, no mouse pointer, no key shows a reaction. Even
alt-ctrl-del does not work.

7. press alt-ctrl-F1. Should switch to text terminal, but you don't see
any change. But now alt-ctrl-del works and reboots the machine. So
something happed, X is not active anymore.

Without step 4, opening a window, the switch back to the main user works
as expected and no lock up happens. It is definitly related to the open
and close of a window.

[Bug 557810] [NEW] X system crash after user change

2010-04-07 Thread Michael Mayer
Public bug reported:

I have multiple user account on my netbook. One user (me, uid 1000)
logged in, using "change user" to change to an other account (uid 1001),
all ok. After using thunderbird and firefox user 1001 loggs off. Expect
the screen to switch to screen lock prompt for first user (uid 1000).

But Screen gets black and stays so. No screen change using alt-F1, crtl-
alt-F1, alt-F7, ctrl-alt-F7, alt/alt-ctrl-F8 or alt/alt-ctrl-F9
possible. System looks completely dead, but rebooting using alt-ctrl-del
still works, so doesn't sounds like a kernel lock-up to me, more like a
X mode change or screen change problem.

Will try to reproduce later. Writing this report after the first reboot,
so output of dmesg etc. is not useful.

Might be related to #419410?

[Bug 542744] Re: user group administration tool freezes temporary and reports failed authentication even for successfull actions

2010-03-22 Thread Michael Mayer
Usually I prefer to use a simple "useradd -m", it was the first time
ever I tried the GUI for this simple task. And I checked the group
properties just to be sure that everything is fine. I did not realise
that the group is actually created, so I tried to do it by hand. Call it
a misunderstanding by an unexperienced GUI user ;-)

I think it is important to get the patch for the freeze fix into lucid,
but the other point is not really urgent, time to fix it for the next
release 10.10. Thank you for your quick replies!

[Bug 542744] Re: user group administration tool freezes temporary and reports failed authentication even for successfull actions

2010-03-21 Thread Michael Mayer
That's it! Now it works fine. No freeze anymore.

But still: If I add a new user, I would expect the tool to add a group
of the same name and set this as the main group for the new user as it
happens with the initial default user on system installation.

[Bug 542744] Re: user group administration tool freezes temporary and reports failed authentication even for successfull actions

2010-03-20 Thread Michael Mayer
The patch failed because my org.freedesktop.SystemToolsBackends.service
is almost empty. This is the full file contents:

[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.freedesktop.SystemToolsBackends
Exec=/usr/sbin/system-tools-backends
User=root

That's all, end of file, and none of the other files in the directory
looks even remotely similar to the patch. Did the last dist-upgrade one
hour ago. I'am using the netbook remix, is it that different from the
desktop edition?

[Bug 542744] Re: user group administration tool freezes temporary and reports failed authentication even for successfull actions

2010-03-20 Thread Michael Mayer
Yes, you are right, it is two different errors:
On creation of a group I get a permission error.
On adding members to a pre-existing group I get an unknown error.

But in both cases I get this temporary freeze prior to the error
message.

[Bug 542744] [NEW] user group administration tool freezes temporary and reports failed authentication even for successfull actions

2010-03-20 Thread Michael Mayer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

netbook-remix 10.4beta1, system language set to german

1. open user and group administration tool System--User&Group administration
2. Add a new admin user, user id 1001
3. new user doesn't get a group. Add a new group, group id 1001
4. group tool freezes for 5..10 seconds
5. error popup window: unable to save configuration. Unknown error.
6. quit group tool, reopen it again. Check list of groups, the new group does
exist now. So /etc/groups was saved successfully.
7. from the group list, open properties for the new group. No member so far.
Add the new user to the group.
8. tool freezes again and gives error pop up again (similar to step 4 and 5)
9. repeat step 6: reopen group tool
10. repeat step 7: check properties of the new group. The new user was added
successfully.

[Bug 180963] Re: Wireless Mouse causes intermittent audio issues in Gutsy

2009-01-18 Thread Michael Mayer
I have a similar problem in Ubuntu 8.10. I plugged Labtec wireless
mouse's connector and now I have audio skipping issues also. It occurs
in youtube, totem, vlc (so far anyway). I unplugged the wireless mouse
and the issues occur, but less frequently.

[Bug 38915] Re: Logout proces hangs

2007-05-18 Thread Michael Mayer
My debian/testing system worked fine. After installing kubuntu 7.04 I
got the crashing shut down problem.

So similar to the solution for gdm-users, if you use kdm:
As stated here

http://gentoo-
wiki.com/HOWTO_ATI_Drivers#System_freezes_after_logout_with_GDM_or_KDM

you've got to add the line

TerminateServer=true

in the [X-:*-Core] section of the kdmrc-File (/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc) - beware of
the ':', there is a similar named section without it, too!
Seems to work for me, restarted my box now three times without problems!
