Re: [Bug 348204] Re: [Jaunty] Intel wireless 3945ABG is unstable and disconnects frequently

2009-06-12 Thread Michael Vanderheeren
You are clearly stating a different problem. People here can connect
but lose the connection. As for now the "best" information gained is
that it possibly has something to do with the use frequency and the
networks in your neighbourhood that are desturbing it. If you can't
connect in the first place you should start a different bug report.

[Bug 344385] Re: Brightness notification works only with Human Icons

2009-03-28 Thread Michael Vanderheeren
Sebastien is right, you should NOT move icons around. Instead make a
copy (cp command) or a symlink (ln command).

The following makes a symlink for all the icons.

"sudo ln -s /usr/share/icons/Human/scalable/status/notification-*.svg
/usr/share/notify-osd/icons/hicolor/scalable/status/"

2009-03-20 Thread Michael Vanderheeren
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: usplash
-
I updated my Ubuntu to the latest Intrepid Alpha 6. On reboot, after the new
progress completes, my screen flashes a couple of times and all I get after
that is a messed up screen with a blurry text saying something like "Asus". It
just hangs there.

Let me know what information I can provide and I can try to connect an
ethernet cable and get that from the recovery mode. BTW I hope I got the
package right.

[Bug 346028] Re: Gnome fails to start Asus F3Ka ATI RadeonHD2600

2009-03-20 Thread Michael Vanderheeren
Just recovered my computer from the same problem. The bug is NOT in the
usplash package. it's the AMD ATI driver called fglrx. Instead you
should use for the moment the opensource driver. The following is a
howto:

1. get into recovery mode (when grub loads, press ESC, select recovery mode)
2. choose to get NETROOT from the menu
3. sudo apt-get remove --purge xorg-driver-fglrx
4. sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati
4. sudo reboot

[Bug 336342] Re: Jaunty Alpha 5 is slow and sluggish

2009-03-04 Thread Michael Vanderheeren
First of all, since you say your card is old you probably shouldn't use
the effects when you want a fast desktop. Second, consider if you need
all the services (SYSTEM -> CONFIGURATION -> SERVICES) and uncheck those
not needed. You could also check what thing start up when you start your
session.

What I know about your hardware: Pentium M is rather slow nowadays. So
that will be the bottleneck in your system because you have a nice pile
of RAM and a good RPM for your hard drive.

I don't know if this should be considered as a bug. It rather normal
when old systems are rather slow with all the fancy stuff enabled.
Jaunty, with the latest package update runs smooth on my Intel Centrino
Duo (Sony Vaio VGN-FE21H).

I think it is a very bad idea to add the notification icons to the high
