[Bug 389290] Re: Windows resized via keyboard do not snap
Yes, the feature was never added to compiz, and still does not exist in the 12.10. On the other hand, window "docking" with Ctrl-Super-(arrow) has been added, which is almost enough. It would still be nice to have window snapping during regular moves and resizes, but the current functionality is enough that I think this bug can be closed as "Won't Fix". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389290 Title: Windows resized via keyboard do not snap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/389290/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 993792] Re: R.Box doesn't show the album art
Same here. In fact, this bug report is how I found out how to show the album art. It seems the art pane is just hidden below the bottom of the window. I was able to partially view the album art of the currently playing song by switching to small display, then back to full, then resizing the window (since turning off small-display didn't restore the original size... another bug, perhaps?). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993792 Title: R.Box doesn't show the album art To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/993792/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The man page is shared for cal and ncal, and it says ncal has more options, so it may be the case that the -M option is only for ncal. [Bug 875274] [NEW] Unity3d fails to load with old ~/.config/dconf/user file
Public bug reported: INSTALL PROCEDURE: I just installed 11.10 over 11.04. My root / directory and /home directory are on separate partitions, so when choosing installation options I chose "other" and manually selected to format / and use my old /home directory, which means my 11.04 config files still existed after the install. SYMPTOMS: I found that after logging in, Unity3d would only show a background image and no GUI (it would not crash or fall back to 2d, just sit there with a background image and a mouse cursor). I could ctrl-alt-delete to logout. I could then login with Unity2d with no problems. The correct video driver was installed, and /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p returned all yesses. CAUSE AND SOLUTION: After much trial and error, I found that the problem was an old .config/dconf/user file. I can attach this file if it would help with solving this bug. Moving this file out of the way allowed a new one to be generated, and then Unity3d started as it should. A possible fix for this bug is to remove, or move, ~/.config/dconf/user during install, or at least check that it is compatible with the new system. [Bug 762335] Re: if window is touching the edge, compiz thinks it's on both desktops
What Timo said sounds right. The problem persists even if a window is a few pixels away from the edge. I must give it a significant buffer (10px?) for it to only show on the appropriate desktop. This effect also "wraps". I often have a terminal on the left edge of the left desktop (in a 2x2 arrangement), and a maximized browser on the right desktop. When I try to use the scrollbar of the browser (on the far right), I end up resizing the terminal by dragging its left edge into the desktop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/762335 Title: if window is touching the edge, compiz thinks it's on both desktops To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/762335/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 389290] Re: Windows resized via keyboard do not snap
I explained further in the comment on 2009.10.17, but basically I expect the window edges to jump to the next edge (side of desktop or side of another window) when I use the shift+arrow keys to move or resize windows. This is and has been the behavior for Metacity for quite some time, and as I primarily use the keyboard to open/arrange windows, it is something I use quite often. If you would like an example, say I open a terminal, which is on the left side of the screen and is the only window open. If I want to move it to the right edge using the keyboard, I would use "Alt+Space m" then use "Shift+RightArrow" to jump-move the window to the right edge. In Metacity this works, but not with Compiz. Instead it will only move the window a constant number of pixels (whether I use Shift or not). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389290 Title: Windows resized via keyboard do not snap -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 684601] [NEW] System hangs on resume while connecting to network
Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu 10.10, but this problem has been around since Lucid, and maybe Karmic. I apologize that I don't know in what package the bug lies. When I resume my laptop (Thinkpad X61-t, 64bit) from suspend, the system freezes either at the login screen or immediately after logging in. During the freeze, I can move the mouse cursor, but neither clicking nor keypresses have any effect, and animations (e.g. nm-applet's icon) also stop. The system "thaws" (becomes responsive again) 10-20 seconds later. My guess is that the freeze occurs while attempting to connect to the wireless. Further, it may be when it attempts to a different wireless network than the one it was on when it was suspended (as it appears the bug does not occur when I suspend and resume in the same room (e.g. if I try right now)). It also may be caused by something related to network connections, as I occasionally have a responsive system while it is connecting, then freeze AFTER nm-applet reports that I have connected to a network. I apologize for all the guesswork. I'd be happy to try and debug, collect logs, etc., if someone could point me in the right direction. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/684601 Title: System hangs on resume while connecting to network -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 650750] [NEW] Empathy contact list defocuses on most keypresses
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy I'm running Maverick beta (last updated Sept 27th 2010) with Empathy 2.32.0. In what appears to be a regression from Lucid, I cannot control the Empathy contact list by the keyboard. I would like to do the following: 1. Press tab to change focus from the buddy list to status settings 2. Select a status from the dropdown list (to be fair, this might not have been available in Lucid) 3. Press enter while a contact is selected to open a chat window with that contact Currently, while the status text box is focused, I can type a new status and enter it, but I cannot open the dropdown menu. Pressing tab in the status text box changes focus to the buddy list (rather than to the dropdown menu button). The more serious problem is that, apparently, while the buddy list is focused (e.g. a contact is highlighted) any key besides up and down will defocus the application. I cannot press tab to go back to the status text box, and I cannot press enter to open a chat window with that contact. Even pressing letter or number keys will defocus the application. This is very annoying for me as I primarily use the keyboard. I would be happy to provide further information and some time debugging. ** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Empathy contact list defocuses on most keypresses https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/650750 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 562811] Re: [Lucid] fsck cannot be cancelled in Plymouth
Upon further inspection it seems that the primary error I'm experiencing is different from the described bug, although I also experience it (being unable to cancel fsck with C). I was able to recover my root partition by booting into a live CD (well, USB-stick) and running fsck from there, fixing the errors. I don't know why, but fsck was continuously failing while being run in Plymouth. Every time it found an error, it had some error (sorry I don't recall what) and restarted the disk check. Therefore, it would say "Checking disk (n-1/n)" and every time the check failed it would increment n (e.g. 1/2, 2/3, etc...). I believe this is the same problem I'm experiencing. I have not found a solution and must reinstall Ubuntu. I notice that before the killer- reboot there are several other symptoms (perhaps red herrings). The first one was a XKB error, and now I am having a strange issue where modal windows (e.g. the Edit Connections or Reboot windows) display nothing in the form, but just the window border and titlebar. I also noticed that while I could connect to wireless networks, no data would be transmitted (as far as I could tell. Ping tests failed without even sending anything (host unknown error)). Holding the shift key while moving a window will cause it to jump to the next edge (window border or screen border) 2. Holding the shift key while resizing a window will cause the side being resized to jump to the next edge. 3. The window size information (such as when resizing a terminal window) will be properly redrawn (no artifacts) when the window is being resized. If any of these are unclear, go see what happens when using Metacity. I just want the functionality in Compiz to be the same as that. -- Windows resized via keyboard do not snap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389290 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 389290] [NEW] keyboard moving/resizing partially broken with compiz
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz I'm running Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04. Moving and resizing windows via the keyboard (alt+space+m for move, alt+space+r or alt+F8 for resize) works great with metacity, but only partially with compiz. The main problem is that window snapping (by holding down shift while using the arrow keys to move/resize) does not happen, so our only choice is to keep resizing/moving the window to the desired place, or using the mouse. The second, minor problem is that during a resize the notification showing the row/column size on a terminal window shows artifacts, as it moves when the window is resized. This may be related to the following bugs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/154734 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compizconfig-settings-manager/+bug/216065 ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- keyboard moving/resizing partially broken with compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389290 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 344670] [NEW] Freeze during upgrade, now gdm unusable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: aptitude Note: I am running from my Windows partition, so I cannot execute the commands to get, for example, precise version numbers. Also, because I cannot access system logs or anything, I will try to recount my steps from memory. 1) I was running Jaunty Alpha 5, trying to do a dist-upgrade after Alpha 6 was released 2) Aptitude was whatever version that was available for the Alpha 5 (I last ran a package update about a week ago (early-mid March 2009)) 3) I noticed that scim-bridge crashed when I was using gvim, and I tried to report the crash. The crash reporting tool said it could not complete because packages were out of date. I tried doing "aptitude update" followed by "aptitude dist-upgrade". It said it would download many different package upgrades, and installing would take around 100Mb. I continued with the upgrade. The upgrade process downloaded all the packages fine. I expected it to then install and configure the updated packages without a problem. 4) ...Instead, it got about halfway (sorry I don't know what it failed on) and the screen froze. At the time I was running Firefox and Pidgin in addition to the terminal running the upgrade process. I used ctrl- alt-left_arrow to change desktops, and when it arrived on the other desktop, everything became unresponsive. The keyboard did nothing, the mouse cursor did not move. I waited a couple minutes, and nothing changed, so I hard-reset the computer by pressing the power button for 5-seconds. When the computer restarted, it failed to load gdm, so I was presented with a console screen. I ran a few commands, such as "dpkg --configure -a" and "aptitude upgrade", which seemed to continue installing where the failed upgrade left off, but at the end it said there were many errors. After restarting again, gdm still would not load. I couldn't even use vim to analyze config files. Both gdm and vim crashed, saying "Bus Error (core dumped)". I tried restarting in recovery mode, running the dpkg fixing tool (whatever that does), updating grub, fixing the display, etc.. Then resumed startup. No gdm. I restarted again, and now there were two kernel choices instead of 1. I tried both, and no luck. Fortunately I left an old, dusty Windows Vista partition on the drive, which booted fine. I am writing this bug report from that Vista partition. A few more details: I'm running on a Lenovo Thinkpad x61t tablet I was using ext4 on both the / and /home partitions I started using Jaunty from Alpha 4 I'm sorry that I'm not going to leave the broken Ubuntu installation on my drive for further analysis. I need to use this laptop for school and other tasks, so I'm going to do a fresh install of Jaunty Alpha 6. This is why I was trying to be very thorough in my process description. Hopefully this problem does not affect other users. ** Affects: aptitude (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Freeze during upgrade, now gdm unusable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344670 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 216065] Re: compiz doesn't obey some keyboard shortcuts
I observed this in Jaunty Alpha 4. I'm running a Thinkpad x61t. Interesting to note that it's not the keys, but the targets. Eg, opening a terminal, print screen, run-application dialog, etc. do not work no matter what the keyboard shortcut, but those same shortcut keys work with other targets (eg. expo, window move, etc). [Bug 296161] [NEW] Error getting font attributes, perhaps?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ttf-arphic-uming I was noticing errors loading CLIM when the ttf-arphic-uming font was installed. I confirmed that removing the font allowed CLIM to be loaded, and reinstalling it caused the problem to reappear. It appears not to be a CLIM issue (aside from bad error handling), but rather a problem with this font. Running "xlsfonts -ll" causes the following error: X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation) Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont) Value in failed request: 0x380036d Serial number of failed request: 14568 Current serial number in output stream: 14569 Running "xlsfonts -l", however, does not cause any errors. [Bug 133723] Re: gnome-terminal locks up on unicode input
here is the valgrind log mentioned in the bug description. While logging, I let the gnome-terminal exhibiting the symptoms run for approximately 1 minute after it locked up, hoping it would close or finish on its own. After no such luck, I killed it, and the gnome- terminal running valgrind was therefore killed as well. ** Attachment added: "valgrid-logs-gnome-terminal.tar.gz" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8898510/valgrid-logs-gnome-terminal.tar.gz -- gnome-terminal locks up on unicode input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 133723] gnome-terminal locks up on unicode input
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal Occasionally when using scim (with Japanese input) gnome-terminal would completely lock up, leaving me no alternative but to force-close it. I am creating this bug from my comment on a closed bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/98813), so the following is copy-pasted from there: --- I was at first unable to reproduce it reliably, but I found that button-mashing (like repeating the home keys: "asdf;lkj") while in unicode-input mode (scim) would crash it quickly. Actually, it doesn't crash, it just locks up. I have to then kill it manually (which kills all other instances of gnome-terminal at the same time). I tried to follow the valgrind wiki in order to produce this log, but if I did something wrong please let me know. I'm not too skilled at reporting this kind of bug yet, but I'm willing to learn. Attached is my valgrind log. --- According to Sebastian Bacher, the valgrind log shows no error. Could this be because it didn't crash, but locked up? Or perhaps it is because force-closing the locked instance also killed the instance running valgrind? I'm not sure why I can't log the error, but this issue (or similar ones) has come up several times. See bugs 98813, 66104, 65489. This may be a duplicate of 66104, but I created the new bug at the request of Sebastian Bacher (see comments in 98813). ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-terminal locks up on unicode input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
