[Bug 1971114] Re: Ubuntu 22.04 python3-grpcio causes some apps to use 100% of the CPU

2022-05-05 Thread Michael Webster
I get similar behavior with Warpinator
(https://github.com/linuxmint/warpinator/issues/127).

In this particular case, it causes a complete lock of the program.

Same symptom - 100% on a core. Using the pip grpcio version also
resolves the issue.

[Bug 1944711] Re: restarting systemd-logind loses all existing sessions

2021-12-29 Thread Michael Webster
Seems good to me, no more broken sessions after resuming, loginctl list
commands always output as expected. Checking org.freedesktop.login1 with
d-feet correctly shows sessions and users.

One issue I noticed, which I at first assumed was related to this issue,
is I will occasional lose my network on resume. Since this still occurs
with ubuntu3.14 perhaps they aren't related after all. Ignore this noise
if so, sorry.

[Bug 1836858] Re: Display flickers (monitor loses signal briefly) during "flickerfree" boot, while showing the BIOS logo on a black background

2020-06-09 Thread Michael Webster
Just throwing this into the ring...

try replacing $vt_handoff in the grub kernel line with vt.handoff=1
(from 18.04 to 20.04 it seems to have been changed from 1 to 7 to make
the handoff to plymouth more fluid as it loads its own copy of the
firmware splash to draw on).

[Bug 1419563] Re: Keyboard CTRL, ALT and SUPER keys binded as SHIFT

2015-02-11 Thread Michael Webster
I'm not sure there's a lot we can do - you can't re-map the keys (the
obvious workaround) because they're sending identical codes. A quick
google for sonix usb keyboard linux gives a number of
similar/duplicate issues, with no resolution.

a) Try a different kernel version - this could be a regression on the kernel
you're using, maybe try up/downgrading it.
b) Return the keyboard? (not sure this is possible, but I'd attempt to if it
is) and buy a different one.

[Bug 1366790] Re: Fix for CVE-2014-1949 (GTK 3.10.x)

So, GTK3 apps that use context menus shouldn't be fixed to avoid a
cascade of menus popping up if they use their menu key?

Did you read beyond cinnamon?

[Bug 1194795] Re: Sound menu music seeker in cinnamon counts seconds too quickly

2014-07-20 Thread Michael Webster
Hi, I've done a lot of work recently on the sound applet, any chance you
could try the new version and see if this still happens?

you should be able to take this file:
https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/blob/master/files/usr/share/cinnamon/applets/sound%40cinnamon.org/applet.js

And replace what's currently in
/usr/share/cinnamon/applets/so...@cinnamon.org/applet.js

(You should back that file up first)

Thanks

[Bug 1334377] [NEW] PLEASE REMOVE THIS PACKAGE (OBSOLETE/UNSUPPORTED)

2014-06-25 Thread Michael Webster
Public bug reported:

Hi, I'm one of the upstream maintainers of this package (with Linux
Mint).

This particular package is extremely out-of-date, and is currently
unmaintained (We provide a PPA for up-to-date builds of these packages).

Unfortunately, unwitting Ubuntu users either:

a) Install this obsolete package and encounter bugs that won't ever get fixed,
or are caused by newer versions of Gtk+ 3 (for example)
b) Install the PPA version but think this page is for support of that version.

And on top of it all, they have a (rightful) expectation of some sort of
support on this distribution when there is none.

I know there are efforts being made in Debian currently, to provide up-
to-date packages (new maintainer), but that could take some time, is by
no means a sure thing, and in the meantime, I'd prefer this page didn't
even exist, or at least the package removed and the page made
effectively read-only.

Thank you.

[Bug 1319990] Re: Mint 17: Evolution headers have a black backgorund

2014-05-15 Thread Michael Webster
Ok, I think this is actually a missing style in the stock Mint GTK
theme. For a temporary workaround you can try a different theme by
going to the 3rd tab of the Theme settings page, and changing the
'Controls' setting.

I tried a number of different ones and they all rendered this pane
correctly.

[Bug 1316613] [NEW] com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode corrupts gtk3 apps in non-Unity desktops

2014-05-06 Thread Michael Webster
Public bug reported:

This setting needs to be 'normal' for non-Unity desktops (i.e. Gnome-
Shell, Cinnamon) or else background color corruption occurs in certain
widgets (I suspect maybe the GtkScrolledWindow widgets?)

See pictures here:

https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/2771

Nothing immediately jumps out at me in the quilt patches, but I will
investigate further and see if I can troubleshoot this as well.

[Bug 1316613] Re: com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode corrupts gtk3 apps in non-Unity desktops

2014-05-06 Thread Michael Webster
I've discovered the package: overlay-scrollbar, and the file: os-
scrollbar.c is implementing this.

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/trusty/overlay-
scrollbar/trusty/view/head:/os/os-scrollbar.c

Would it be possible to check the session name (or look for Unity's dbus
session name?) as a condition to apply this? I don't think blacklisting
is maintainable here.

[Bug 1303531] [NEW] Fix for misplaced tooltips (upper-left corner) - upstream pending patch

2014-04-06 Thread Michael Webster
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Any chance this:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=698730#c4

Current Gtk+3.0 has had a bug since Saucy where gtk tooltips will
briefly appear in the upper left corner before repositioning to their
proper location.

I will do the legwork if necessary (as a quilt patch)
