Same problem here. First amarok used to freeze when loading it. After that, I realized my sound card was not being detected( an on board AC97, which is very linux compliant, from my point of view ). After a few tests, I removed my tv card, and the sound card just show up as expected. Now the behavior is as reported above. It starts playing, but after a few seconds it freezes. The exactly same thing is happening with kaffeine, which makes me think it is something in xine. I don't know is the last series of updates contained a xine update. Can it be something between xine and the last kernel update? [Bug 75519] switch user in kde changes the screen height
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg Hi, When I change from a user to another the screen size grows a bit, making kicker partialy invisible. Some lines on the screen also get duplicated. Right now my kicker is cut in half. A curious thing is, if I keep switching user, once in a while I get the full screen just fine. Apart of this screen distortion and kicker out of the screen, there doesn't seem to be any other problems. Note that this appened in dapper(i386, amd) and edgy( amd, don't know about i386 ). I'm also using a nvidia 7300, the amd kernel. You can always use the second workaround by opening kwalletmanager application( clicking on the wallet icon in the sys tray ) and close all wallets. This will save the passwords. I think I just found out the reason it's not remembering the settings. The settings are being saved, but in a different file for each session( you can test this by removing and adding the applet ). The file name is being set something like minipager_panelapplet_x_rc, where is or garbage or some sort of id created each time the kpager runs. Hi, I manages to install kubuntu using debootstrap. Anyway, I think the problem is something like this. I have a recovery partition in which I copied somehow the livecd into it. Apart of it, I booted with the real livecd(ucing a real cdrom), but what is mounted in /cdrom is my /dev/sda1 partition. Now under ubiquity, after I selected that partitions and mount points, it formats my / partition. Then, I think the kernel tries to get the partition table again, in which has to unmount everything. The problem is that /cdrom (which is actualy /dev/sda1 instead of the cdrom) doesn't unmount. Trying to unmount in the console says the device is busy. Now for those that made the same mistake the solution is 1) edit /etc/network/interfaces sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces 2) add the line at the end iface eth0 inet eth0 3) restart the network service sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart Note that eth0 won't show up on ifconfig anyway 4) bring up the interface sudo ifup eth0 5) now just install the network-manager package and the one from gnome or kde for kubuntu: sudo apt-get install network-manager network-manager-kde for ubuntu: sudo apt-get install network-manager network-manager-gnome This is quite a nasty bug. You are right...totally forgot... kubuntu 8.10 with kde 4.1.3 updated. All mail accounts are IMAP. But, here's an updatekdevelop was crashing without kcrash showing up too, so I decided to reboot, so...when all apps were closing, kcrash just poped up ( the kontact one ). So, I'm figuring that kcrash was locked by something. Probably kdevelop kcrash popups would show up too, if I wasn't shutting down.
