2017-08-29 Thread Mike Durham
This drove me crazy on Ubuntu distros so I switched to Mint. It never

I've installed each new kernel as it's become availabe up to the present
3.2.0-6 None of them work, they all crash about 30 seconds after the
login screen is shown with a kernel panic. See attached screen shot. Of
course the Live Alpha won't boot either.

2011-12-17 Thread Mike Durham
Any kernel after 3.1.0-2 causes a panic approx 30-40 secs after booting.
It does this on three ASUS B202 nettop computers using Live Alpha 1 or
on an installed system.

[Bug 579697] Re: Totem starts to play AVI, then stops with an error message

2010-05-12 Thread Mike Durham
Video:
Dimensions 720 x 576
Codec XVID MPEG-4
Framerate 25 FPS
Bitrate N/A

Audio:
Codec Dolby Digital (AC-3)
Channels Stereo
Sample rate 48000 Hz
Bitrate 224 kbps

I don't think the AVI's are corrupt as they play perfectly in Hardy, Jaunty
Karmic. Also, they play perfectly with VLC Media player.
The video starts to play, but is very jerky fast for 2-3 seconds with no
sound. Then I get the error message as mentioned above.

Cheers, Mike

Thanks Bruno, I'll follow it. It's strange, but exactly the same bug was
in a previous version of Ubuntu. Can't remember which one it was now.

It shouldn't be this hard just to report a bug!

[Bug 570060] [NEW] nautilus actions %M doesn't work

2010-04-26 Thread Mike Durham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When trying to pass a directory to an App --path=%M it doesn't work. The %M
(directory) is passed to the App as a seperate arg.
What should be:
App
path=/home/mike/Graphics/ArtDeco

gets passed as:

App
path=
/home/mike/Graphics/ArtDeco

Therefore the path= becomes meaningless and it always assume the home
directory.

[Bug 488612] Re: Nautilus Actions don't show up in Nautilus right-click menu if the command is not a full path

2010-04-08 Thread Mike Durham
that inserting the whole path in the command box does make the action
show up

I tried the whole path but preceding it with gksu /usr/bin/nautilus (say) it
still doesn't work. A command without the gksu will work. Why TF has it been
changed?

[Bug 517903] Re: Firefox 3.6 won't work if user profile is accessed via a link

2010-02-11 Thread Mike Durham
Thanks for the suggestion Sebastian, it doesn't work.
If I create a new user in /home/newone and run Firefox this will produce a new
profile and will always work fine.
If I rename .mozilla to .mozillaX and create a link to .mozillaX with the name
of .mozilla, Firefox will not work (start).
If I have my home on a seperate partition with a link in
/home/linktomyuserstuff it also doesn't work.
One other person reported this strange behaviour in the forum but obviously
isn't worried about it as he hasn't made a bug report, as far as I can see.
Can you try renaming .mozilla and making a link as described above and let me
know if it works or not.
Cheers, Mike

[Bug 506396] Re: locale is not set

2010-01-20 Thread Mike Durham
Did you select Australia in the installer?
Yes

Please give me the output of cat /etc/default/locale
LANG=en_AU.UTF-8

Perhaps Mike can confirm whether he also sees C locale on the console.
No, I see the correct output using the console, I get the problem when running X

Anyway, I have reinstalled from Alpha 2 and now don't have the problem.
The previous system I was using that had the problem was an upgrade from
Karmic.

Thanks, Mike

[Bug 364838] Re: nautilus excessive cpu and delay opening directories

2009-10-23 Thread Mike Durham
Ubuntu 9.10 rc

Using Nautilus, the time it takes to display files in (for example) the
/usr/bin directory with 1573 files takes 2 mins 23 seconds.

It seems the problem has to do with using 'icon' or 'list' view. I
always use list view and that causes it to take over 2 mins. If I use
icon view it takes around 20 seconds.

Select (say) /usr/bin and with the Nautilus dropdown control change to
List view from Icon view. It takes ages to show the result on my
machine. Switch back to Icon or Compact view and it's much quicker to
display.

Sometimes when it's taking too long I kill Nautilus and all the icons
are removed from the desktop. They remain removed until I log-in again.

For what it's worth:
Adrian, I used to have this problem on Jaunty but now I don't, since a couple
of months ago. I just tried printing your sample file to a ps file and it
worked perfectly.
My problem was some of these chars wouldn't print 第一课 换钱 呢最 but now all seems
okay.
Sorry to be of no help, but it might encourage you not to give up.

[Bug 373502] [NEW] some Chinese chars don't print

2009-05-07 Thread Mike Durham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

I've attached a postscript file so that you can see what I mean. It prints the
same on the printer except that it leaves white-space instead of printing
rectangles. Although it may appear a couple of fonts may be useful, they
actually aren't because they too miss odd characters. I tried printing to a
postscript file before installing the printer with exactly the same result.
Cheers, Mike
