[Bug 244050] [NEW] cannot turn off program autostart on ipod connection
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager I'm trying to disable autostarting rhythmbox or banshee when connecting my ipod. However this behavior continues after disabling it in 2 different places. first of all the original place to disable this has diasappeared. used to exist in System Preferences Removable Drives and Media I was able to find a tutorial that led me to another default program that did list media players and disabled autostart there (forget the program, but was exactly like Removable Drives and Media with more devices) I then also disabled the functionality in gconf (desktop gnome volume_manager) and unchecked autoipod both of these listed rhythmbox as the default however I keep having Banshee launched when inserting my ipod. There however is no option in banshee to set this behavior and checking with them they don't even offer it, so it must still be a gnome-volume-manager bug. is there a way to see what is initiating the autostart? ** Affects: gnome-volume-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- cannot turn off program autostart on ipod connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244050 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 239294] [NEW] accidental usb disconnect doesnt unmount
Public bug reported: if i accidentally remove my external usb drive without unmounting it first, Ubuntu never responds by unmounting it and the icon stays on my desktop. Therefore when i remount the drive, i then have 2 on my desktop by the same name. Before a message would come up about unsafe removal and the drive would be removed, but this is no longer happening. yes i'm aware of the correct way. accidental unplugging happens though and it used to be handled gracefully with a warning and unmounting the drive in Gutsy. doesn't seem to be working since moving to Hardy. -- accidental usb disconnect doesnt unmount https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup
personally bootchart won't do anything for me since the problem is not on booting but on gnome login. I believe someone above was able to make it work all the way through the desktop loading, but i don't think i have the technical skills to make that work. If there is an easier way that you know of to analyze the gnome login please let me know and i would be glad to find the problem. however, until that time Gutsy will continue to login to gnome in 2-3min for me. hoping a clean install of Hardy will make this all go away in 2 short months -- [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup
thats one way to do itmaybe devs will realize how annoying this can be. this bug needs instructions on how to approach self-diagnosing the problem. many people have removed all applets with no results. sweetsinse seemed to do an extremely thorough job and suggested it may be a problem with the compiz script used by ubuntu. has this been explored by any developers knowledgable in this area? looking at bootchart doesn't mean anything to me, if i go through the trouble of patching and installing it to analyze login will someone take a look? first though, how do i do that? I for one use both compiz and deskbar as i have since edgy, and i've still noticed a good 15-30sec jump in login time since moving from feisty. removing them doesnt seem to change much, but when you're talking about 45sec login vs 60sec its still waaa too lng. -- [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup
to the contrary, YES, switching to other distros also running Gnome 2.20 has made a big difference to some of the users above. I believe one person tried Arch linux with more panel aplets and still had 10sec less than Ubuntu. Then as you saw, anibal switched to Mandriva and seems to not have the problem anymore. [Bug 91128] Re: Files ending with jpg must be renamed jpeg to open
there is a solution here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=589861 alternatively, it should be ok just to erase the file it tells you to fix (~/.local/share/mime/globs), anything there is autocreated in the first place. i just went ahead and erased the whole '.local' folder to make sure it went away and everything works fine here now. some personal settings may be lost, but easily fixed. also lost album covers, could have left those. -- Files ending with jpg must be renamed jpeg to open https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/91128 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 44686] Re: Pressing multimedia buttons on laptop with lid closed should not turn on screen
bug still relevant in 7.04 Feisty Fawn don't think this is a screensaver problem as much as a power-management problem. When I look at the Power History it shows that closing the lid initiates DPMS Off but when pressing the multimedia buttons the computer changes to DPMS On, turning on screen. only later when i open my laptop lid does it show that the laptop lid is opened. unlike the original post though, my screen eventually goes black as set to do, although not sure about timing. basically, DPMS should not be set On when lid is down on laptop and multimedia buttons are pressed. different behavior may be desired on desktop such that the screen does come on when keys are pressed, but on a laptop as long as the lid is closed the screen should not be initiated until opened -- Pressing multimedia buttons on laptop with lid closed should not turn on screen https://launchpad.net/bugs/44686 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
