Spoke too soon, though it may be a slightly different issue, but still
appears to be BTRFS related. This is still on 4.6.0-040600rc6-generic,

[Bug 1576297] [NEW] BTRFS Page allocation failure with Bacula.

2016-04-28 Thread MikeB
Public bug reported:

As soon as bacula starts running I see the below errors in the kernel
log, and the server eventually hangs at some point. I'm backing up our
servers to a local BTRFS volume on a local drive, nothing fancy and it
used to work really well in Ubuntu 14.04.

[Bug 1553563] Re: bconsole to Bacula Director fails with authorization problem message

2016-04-22 Thread MikeB
Hopefully to help save someone else a bunch of time, I also had to put
"Enabled = Yes" in all my jobs, otherwise they wouldn't run on schedule.

Has Ubuntu compiled Bacula in some strange way to cause default values
to be incorrect?

[Bug 1519866] [NEW] CTRL/SHIFT keys getting stuck

2015-11-25 Thread MikeB
Public bug reported:

When using spice-gtk 0.28 and virt-viewer 1.0 the CTRL/SHIFT keys often
get "stuck" on the remote guest causing endless frustration. I was never
able to replicate the problem consistently, but it would happen about
3-6x per day, every day. I compiled spice-gtk 0.30 and virt-viewer 2.0
and it seems to have resolved the issue.

It would be nice to get these latest versions into Ubuntu 16.04 if at
all possible.

[Bug 1464729] [NEW] Dynamic resolution changing doesn't seem to work...

2015-06-12 Thread MikeB
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Vivid guest doesn't seem to allow dynamic resolution changing in
the Guest, but if I fire up a Fedora 22 live CD it works fine. The only
difference I found was Fedora uses xorg-x11-drv-qxl v0.1.3-2 and Ubuntu
Vivid is still on the older v0.1.1-0ubuntu6.

When I tried to manually force a resolution higher than 1920x1200 using
xrandr it also causes X on the guest to crash every time Libreoffice
Writer is opened, after talking with the SPICE developers they said that
bug should be fixed in newer X QXL drivers.

Can we get the newer QXL driver package?

[Bug 823494] Re: Virt-manager upgrade 0.9.0 is not in sync with libvirt

2012-05-09 Thread MikeB
https://launchpad.net/~bderzhavets/+archive/lib-usbredir73 does resolve
the blank screen problem, I can start my Windows7 guest with both VGA
and QXL drivers using KVM-SPICE.

However when using QXL Windows hangs during startup. I tried using both
32 and 64mb VRAM for the QXL driver to no avail. This is likely a
separate issue though.

[Bug 823494] Re: Virt-manager upgrade 0.9.0 is not in sync with libvirt

2012-05-09 Thread MikeB
I apologize, I'm not using the KVM-SPICE binary anymore, just KVM with
SPICE is what I meant.

However the packages from https://launchpad.net/~bderzhavets/+archive
/lib-usbredir73 don't remove the qemu-kvm-spice package if its
installed and I had one libvirt .XML file hardcoded to use the KVM-SPICE
binary (due to another bug with that), so it didn't work until I removed
that line from the .XML file. This may help someone else reading this
bug report if they continue to have problems even after installing the
lib-usbredir73 packages.

A lot of other bugs similar to his are being marked as a duplicate of
this one, and this one is marked as fixed, but it clearly isn't since
many of the bug reports are all much newer than when this bug was fixed-

The amount of VRAM (64mb, 32mb, 8mb, etc...) does not correct this bug

2012-05-08 Thread MikeB
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 823494 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823494

I don't see how this is a duplicate of bug #823494 seeing as that bug
was marked as fixed many months ago and only applies to the QXL driver,
and with this bug I was only using the VGA driver.

There have also been several other bug postings of similar blank screen
problems with the kvm-spice binary, so even if this is a duplicate bug
it clearly isn't fixed.

[Bug 987409] [NEW] Black screen with -vga std

2012-04-23 Thread MikeB
Public bug reported:

When using /usr/bin/kvm to launch a guest, -vga std works fine,
however if I use /usr/bin/kvm-spice and don't change anything else, I
just get a blank screen and no output whatsoever (not even BIOS output
before the OS starts) but the guest does start and runs fine other than
that. This happens with both Windows and Linux guests.

Here is the exact command that is run from libvirt:

This command works fine:

/usr/bin/kvm -S -M pc-1.0 -cpu

virtio-balloon-pci,id=balloon0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5

This command (only change is the kvm-spice binary is used) gives a blank
(black) screen:

/usr/bin/kvm-spice -S -M pc-1.0 -cpu
core2duo,+lahf_lm,+sse4.1,+xtpr,+cx16,+tm2,+est,+vmx,+ds_cpl,+pbe,+tm,+ht,+ss,+acpi,+ds

fine, but that is the only driver I can get to work with the spice binary.

[Bug 962376] Re: spicevmc not supported in QEMU binary on Precise

2012-04-23 Thread MikeB
I had a similar problem (spicevmc not supported) but when trying to
start the guest from libvirt. The cause was the libvirt .XML file where
it specified the emulator to always be the non-spice executable, ie:

emulator/usr/bin/kvm/emulator

Remove this line completely, or change it to:

emulator/usr/bin/kvm-spice/emulator

That allowed to me use the spice protocol, although I get a blank black
screen when using any video driver other than cirrus. :(

[Bug 650539] Re: Launching QT apps under Xinerama crashes Xorg : affects SpeedCrunch, KeePassX, Lucky Backup, Pencil, Stellarium, Skype, Google Earth, VLC, Konqueror, VirtualBox, Opera ...

2010-10-25 Thread MikeB
JMason's solution fixed the issue for me too.

On a side note, after being forced to use TwinView (two monitors instead
of 3) due to this bug, I noticed that Xinerama is noticeably slower in
responsiveness. Especially when switching virtual desktops, which I have
6 in total across 3 monitors. Switching between virtual desktops I can
see applications redrawing, which can often take 1.0-5.0 seconds
(counting in my head) depending on the application. When I was using
just TwinView there was no noticeable redraw lag at all.

This is with KDE, but using all sorts of different apps, from Konsole,
to Chrome, to Java applications.

Has anyone else noticed this?

2010-10-22 Thread MikeB
I looked into this patch
(https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=841628#p841628), but its
against v1.7.3 of the xserver-xorg-core package, but Ubuntu 10.10 uses
v1.7.6 and looking at the source code the affected function is
completely different. I'm not convinced its even the same bug. :(

I'll see if I can dig anything out of Xorg's GIT server that may point
me in the right direction, but its a long shot.

2010-10-11 Thread MikeB
Thanks for the tips, that is basically what I'm doing right now, but
with KDE4.5 I can't figure out how to actually start apps on the 3rd

except the mouse cursor. (no taskbar, right click menu or anything)

I'm almost thinking KDE doesn't support this.

Thanks.

2010-10-11 Thread MikeB
This works (xterm loads on the 3rd monitor), however KDE doesn't appear
to be running on the 3rd monitor, so there is essentially no window
manager, making it pretty useless. :(

From what I can obtain from Google, KDE4+ doesn't support separate X
displays like this. I attempted to use the script at the bottom of this
forum post:

http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=66t=12180start=30

However it pops up a message saying KDE is already running on this (the
3rd) display, but I see no task bar or window decorations/title bars
whatsoever.

[Bug 658028] Re: xinerama triggers segmentation fault while loading KDE desktop with current nvidia driver

2010-10-11 Thread MikeB
Same issue here, Xinerama causes X to segfault with three monitors. If I
disable Xinerama it works fine with one monitor.

The pandora package in ubuntu is a GIMP Plugin that arranges images for
creation of panoramic images. Pandora uses gradients, and overlays to
blend the images, allowing a seamless appearance.

You seem to be referring to the pandora website for creating custom
radio stations. I think pandora uses flash, so the choice of package
was incorrect. Marking invalid as to the pandora package in ubuntu.

[Bug 368297] [NEW] Pandora Does not create Sound Release 2.0.x worked ok, release 3.0.9 does not work

2009-04-27 Thread mikeb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I recently upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04 which loaded Fire Fox 3.0.9. When
attempting to access Pandora, I no longer get sound. However, CD, and
other non-web applications are working fine.

Ubuntu 9.04 - the Jaunty Jackalope - released in April 2009.

This was an upgrade from LTS 8.04 thru 8.10 to get to 9.0.4. During the
8.10 release none of the sounds work. Once upgraded to 9.0.4 all sound
testing worked, except Firefox. Hardware is a DELL GX110 with 500meg
memory, everything else is standard DELL, except the monitor.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
Package: firefox-3.0 3.0.9+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=(custom, no user)

 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: firefox-3.0
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-6-386 i686

[Bug 211726] Re: losetup fails when using the 'file:/', preventing the DomU from being created

2008-04-11 Thread MikeB
In Hardy using tap:aio: fixed this issue for PVM guests but with HVM
guests I get these errors.

I always get this in xen-hotplug.log:
xenstore-read: couldn't read path /local/domain/1/vm
xenstore-read: couldn't read path /local/domain/1/vm

for HVM guests i have to manually setup the loopbacks and use phy: disk
type that point to /dev/loop*. Once I setup the loopback manually and
change to phy: the domain will boot correctly and the hotplug errors are
gone.

[Bug 211728] Re: Tap:Aio CDROM Drives do not work

2008-04-11 Thread MikeB
I'm having a similar issue with tap:aio: but it isn't limited to cdroms.
I too can't use tap:aio: for cdroms but also, Xen immediately does a
poweroff if using tap:aio for a disk on *some* disks. Using older
images that I've used in the past, tap:aio works, but if I create a new
sparse file with dd, tap:aio fails with pretty much no errors. I've
commented on the issue on xen-users.
