I never saw the crash or any detrimental effect of a crash. I just keep
getting the notification every time I restart. At least I think it's the
same crash, I've never read through the report, it didn't have details
last time I looked.

Hope this helps keep up the good work. Much appreciated.

PS trying to build at the moment to contrib so maybe you'll see more of
me :-)

[Bug 933029] Re: unable to update libssl-dev on maverick

2012-02-17 Thread W-mit
SOLVED - was actually a filesystem problem.
We use ubuntu virtual servers at rackspace, their system boots images even if
there are problems with the filesystem (inode corruption!).

i did a 'rescue' boot of the system, repaired the filesystem, retried
the update aove and all was fine.

+ When evolution spam filter is activated, evolution creates a new undesired

them to another folder (namely from undesired into inbox) these emails are

[Bug 348391] Re: qemu cannot use KVM

2009-07-08 Thread RMS-mit
I am using Karmic Alpha 2 updated to 9/jul/2009 and I still see this
problem. qemu console says KVM not supported when I send it the command
info (I am using qtemu new version yet to be released for which I am
writing help files) and in the QTEMU console tab I type:-

(qemu)
info kvm
kvm support: not compiled
(qemu)

Once this is complied into qemu kvm should just become a link to qemu
(for backwards compatibility)

This will greatly simplify the qtemu functionality

[Bug 325397] Re: Dual-Screen: failed to set metamode

2009-02-16 Thread RMS-mit
I have the same issue in 9.04 on mythbuntu.

I think this could be related to lunchpad bug 325115. It sounds like
they just hit the problem coming at it from a different direction. This
bug has a workaround and is supposedly fixed upstream, just waiting on
the fixes to come down.

There is also a Debian bug (514576) that sounds very similar.

[Bug 214413] Re: after upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04 cdrom won't mount

2009-01-18 Thread Mit
Update on CD issues.

Ok over New Years I installed 8.04 on a complete new machine at my
parents place (this machine has never run linux before just windows).
that happens to be the same make and computer that i have at home. a
Dell Dimension 4700, both with factory defaults. after I finished the
install I made sure I upgraded all the packages with the latest
releases. and low and behold, the CDROM still wont allow me to rip
and/or play Audio CDs. It's able to read the Track List in the audio
player supplied with ubuntu, but that is it. Same as the issue on my
machine I had originally upgrade from 7.10. I didn't try mounting any
CDs since the Audio CD portion still wasn't working, thus I assumed that
mounting didn't work either as before. I can try that the next time I'm
at my parents place and report back.

[Bug 252477] [NEW] Should NOT have both kwin-3d and compriz options available by default

2008-07-28 Thread RMS-mit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic

I have installed Intrepid Alpha3 version of Kubuntu and I found the
options to enable kwin 3d desktop effects. However I also found the
ubuntu compirz setup tool in the applications list (I think under
utilities or system). This is potentially confusing as KDE4.1 should use
kwin's 3d desktop by default. If users really want compirz instead they
can install the package themselves. If they do have compirz and kwin
(say they install the gnome desktop as well as the KDE4.1 desktop) the
ubuntu compirz utility should allow for the following:-

1) Apply compirz settings only to the desktop user is currently running in (eg
if running in gnome desktop do not replace kwin in kde desktop.)
2) If applying compirz to the kde desktop make sure kwin 3d effects is disabled
and is reinstated if compirz is later turned off.
3) maybe hide compirz utility/options when running kde desktop or at least make
it clear kwin has it's own 3d effects.

[Bug 182428] Re: gutsy installer-maual partition dialog text cut off

2008-02-05 Thread RMS-mit
yes this was in installing kubuntu 8.04 alpha version. Were should I
have filed the report to so I can get it right in future. I found it
difficult to find a project to assign the bug too that seamed to cover
the install of the OS and/or the Alpha version.

[Bug 182423] reports dependency on KDE4-core version 5:47

2008-01-12 Thread RMS-mit
Public bug reported:

The version number seams more like a time stamp to me (eg 5:47 pm) I
think the version number was supposed to be version 3.2 as that is what
the current version of KDE4-core is.

[Bug 96793] 7.04 beta installer problem. No error description when using upercase usernames

2007-03-26 Thread RMS-mit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: base-installer

Was installing 7.04 beta release. I found that when the installer asked
for my user name, if I used uppercase characters in my username I could
not move on to next dialogue. BUT I did not get an error telling me I
could not use uppercase.

This is a big issue because most people who try and use uppercase in
their user name would be newbees and it would be frustrating if they
didn't realise what the problem was.

[Bug 96805] Can't build search index for Application Manuals

2007-03-26 Thread RMS-mit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: khelpcenter

Looking at the bug reports this seams to have been an issue with a
number of Ubuntu versions dating back a long way. (63605,75317, 17192)

How ever bug 68170 (which marked as a duplicate of bug#19767) seams to
be an almost exact match except for the device and opcode numbers
reported in the error message.

My error reads:-
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 167
  Major opcode: 145
  Minor opcode: 3
  Resource id: 0x0
Failed to open device
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 167
  Major opcode: 145
  Minor opcode: 3
  Resource id: 0x0
Failed to open device
INDEXDIR: /home/rsmit/.kde/share/apps/khelpcenter/index/index
FINDCMD: find /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/ -name index.docbook
Creating index for 'kde_application_manuals'
htdig failed

It would seam to me that this issue is back again.

I would humbly suggest that search indexes for all help should be pre-
built at install and linked so as individual users do not have to do
this for them selves.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 19767 ***

Sorry I noticed that the other bugs already reported but it looked to me
that (at least for bug#19767) the issue had been resolved.

I raised this bug because I thought the fix from 19767 had been re-
broken.

I also noticed that the help indexes had been pre-built for the man pages.
And I though that the application search indexes should also have been
pre-built. Is it not pre-built just because of bug 19767 ? Is there some
other reason it is not pre-built?

PS This is the 1st bug I have raised so I am not sure of the process if I
had done something incorrect please let me know

Robert Smit

[Bug 17881] Re: usb flash memory hangs after copying few MB

2006-12-09 Thread RMS-mit
I had similar issues with kubuntu 6.10 I rolled back to ubuntu 6.06 and
found that my innoDisk DU Card now works fine.

But My newer larger EasyDisk still had a problem (be-it slightly
different) it now refused to mount. Found that fdisk complained about
the partition table being non standard. After repartitioning the
pendrive and formating it back to FAT32 it now works fine in all
machines (ubuntu, windows-XP and Mac-book OS-X 10.4).
