[Bug 1443863] [NEW] update-manager does't notify about some upgrades.

2015-04-14 Thread Moshe Caspi
Public bug reported:

I usually upgrade using update-manager. Sometimes I run "apt-get
upgrade" and I notice that some packages weren't upgraded using update-
manager. Today I was offered by "apt-get" to upgrade libxext6 when the
upgrade was ready for download in January. You can see in the logs some
more packages that I upgraded months after they were released.

[Bug 1528534] [NEW] No wireless connection on computer start

2015-12-22 Thread Moshe Caspi
Public bug reported:

I use tp-link wn723n usb dongle. When I start the computer I am not
connected automatically to the router but the hardware is recognized. It
looks like the problem is that I get a wrong MAC :

kernel: [ 32.481663] MAC Address = 00:e0:4c:81:88:02

which looks like a combination of the first part of the serial number of
the dongle: 00e04c, the chip: 8188 and and an index number: 02.

I have to remove the dongle and insert it in order for the wireless
connection to work. Then I get the correct MAC:

kernel: [ 449.752527] MAC Address = c4:e9:84:0c:cb:af

It looks like the problem starts here:

kernel: [ 56.946579] r8188eu 1-2:1.0 wlan1: renamed from wlan0

even though I have:

# USB device 0x:0x (r8188eu)
SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*",
ATTR{address}=="c4:e9:84:0c:cb:af", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1",
KERNEL=="wlan*", NAME="wlan0"

# USB device 0x:0x (r8188eu)
SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*",
ATTR{address}=="00:e0:4c:81:88:02", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1",
KERNEL=="wlan*", NAME="wlan1"

If I reboot the computer at this point that I have a connection to the router,
magically I am automatically connected again to the router.

Here are 2 same issues with wrong MACs and the same chip:

[Bug 1528534] Re: No wireless connection on computer start

2016-01-04 Thread Moshe Caspi
Thanks Christopher for your help. I don't think it's related to the BIOS
because:

1. Once I have a wireless connection, rebooting the computer makes a
connection automatically with the correct MAC so this issue happens only
on cold boot.

2. This doesn't happen with the manufacturer's driver. It only happens
with the staging driver.

[Bug 1799040] [NEW] Cancelling an upgrade reports wrong upgrade date

2018-10-21 Thread Moshe Caspi
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start an upgrade.
2. Cancel it after reading some information about the upgrade.
3. Next time, when a user wants to report a bug to Launchpad, the date of the
upgrade of the user's current Ubuntu version that will be passed to Launchpad
will be the date he activated steps 1 and 2 instead of the actual upgrade date
which was much earlier.

For example: I upgrade to Xenial much earlier than this report:

UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to xenial on 2018-08-28 (54 days ago)

It looks like the date of an upgrade needs to be set when a user ends
the procedure and not when he starts it.

[Bug 1297437] Re: warning "Application already exists, re-requesting properties"

2019-03-12 Thread Moshe Caspi
Daniele, this is not the reason.

Sebasien, in my case, connecting a Wireless USB Adapter, and only this,
triggers the messages appearance. It might be that certain hardware is
the reason for all the above reports. Are you willing to open the issue
given more information?

[Bug 1746183] [NEW] Monitor doesn't turn on after startup.

2018-01-30 Thread Moshe Caspi
Public bug reported:

Monitor: LG E1942.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Make sure that the computer and monitor are turned off.
2. Turn on the computer.
3. After some time (let's say 20-30 seconds) turn on the monitor.
4. Ubuntu is running but the monitor is in Standby mode. In my opinion the
monitor should turn on no matter how long the user had turned on the monitor
after the computer.

[Bug 1958209] Re: Not responding after connecting to a hotpot Hidden Network

2022-01-19 Thread Moshe Caspi
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal

** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 20.04.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Run gnome-control-center/Wi-Fi.
  2. Connect to a Hidden Network (a hotspot in my case).
  3. After connection, click the network settings.

  What I expect to happen:

  Get the connection information.

  What happens:

  After a few seconds, a box appears with the message: "Settings is not
  responding", and I have to Force Quit.

  This happens only after the first time I run gnome-control-center and
  make the connection.

  from syslog:

[Bug 1816530] Re: DNS servers are not being set in the system correctly when you upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04

2019-10-07 Thread Moshe Caspi
Got the same issue after the upgrade. In my case:

moshe@moshe-desktop:~/New$ grep . /run/resolvconf/interface/*
nameserver 127.0.0.53

moshe@moshe-desktop:~/New$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
# 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver.
# run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers.

nameserver 127.0.0.53

The difference from Zoltn's issue is that I don't have the lines:

options edns0
search home

During the upgrade which was done using Wi-Fi, the connection went down
but it was after the download completed so the upgrade ended.

Re: [Bug 1816530] Re: DNS servers are not being set in the system correctly when you upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04

2019-10-10 Thread Moshe Caspi
True, the upgrade completed successfully but without DNS which is
reasonable because I don't think that a user needs a network connection
after the files were downloaded. But I experience Wi-Fi disconnects once
in a while.

Anyway, I tried to figure out what might be the reason for the absent of
DNS. During the upgrade I choosed to keep my files when asked to keep or
change to the distro one's. I tried to remember which files I kept and
checked for network related files and I found that my
NetworkManager.conf was different from the distro file which was copied
to /etc/NetworkManager during the upgrade.

My old file:

[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile,ofono
dns=dnsmasq

no-auto-default=aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff,

[ifupdown]
managed=false

The distro file:

[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile

[ifupdown]
managed=false

[device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no

So, I decided to use the distro file instead my old file and now the DNS
works.

What I see now in syslog which might be related and I don't see when I
used 8.8.8.8 as a workaround is this:

Oct 10 09:47:58 systemd-resolved[335]: Using degraded feature set (UDP) for DNS
server a.b.c.d.
Oct 10 09:57:05 systemd-resolved[335]: Grace period over, resuming full feature
set (UDP+EDNS0) for DNS server a.b.c.d.
Oct 10 10:06:35 systemd-resolved[335]:Using degraded feature set (UDP) for DNS
server a.b.c.d.

[Bug 1798333] Re: warning "Application already exists, re-requesting properties"

2019-10-11 Thread Moshe Caspi
I hope that I understand your issue correctly, If I remember, I removed
the volume control indicator, added the indicator applet and
ticked/unticked the sound menu option. Might be something similar. My
idea was that some indicators don't exactly fit the distro. I would try
removing your systemload-indicator/indicator-multiload or other
indicators.

It looks like a feature and not a bug in the upgrading process because
of a critical bug in one or more of the packages. So Canonical doesn't
want users to experience the issue, and stopped the upgrading process. I
would wait patiently for the offer.

[Bug 2069939] Re: Packages no longer required and then 0 to remove

2024-06-20 Thread Moshe Caspi
I truncated the first output because I didn't see a reason to put the
whole list.

I don't see a reason to print the autoremove packages at the beginning
*in order not to confuse the user* like it happened to me, or in other
words my suggestion is as follows:

Never print the autoremove packages at the beginning.
Answer=n: Still don't print the list of packages.
Answer=y: Print the autoremove packages after the user's answer.

Yes. If the update size is 60MB, I saw the download amount after the
Auto-update increase by 120 MB. I also saw a download activity on my
Wireless Network Adapter during the Auto-update. I think that the 'snap
tasks' commands show it also.

Public bug reported:

It happens in Firefox and Thunderbird, only on Hebrew (RTL) menus, and
on bookmarks toolbar folders (Firefox), when hoovering over them. The
first time will be ok but flashings start from the second attempt. See
attached videos.

It looks like it's happening only when logging in "Ubuntu", and not in
"Ubuntu on X11".

"Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge

Brian, this kind of message won't help my mom or someone like her solve the
problem. If you want people like them to use Ubuntu, I think that all these
messages should look like this:
1. Open Terminal.
2. Type: sudo apt install ppa-purge and click Enter.
...

I think that this bug needs to be "In progress" until resolved.

[Bug 1958209] [NEW] Not responding after connecting to a hotpot Hidden Network

2022-01-18 Thread Moshe Caspi
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Run gnome-control-center/Wi-Fi.

What I expect to happen:

Get the connection information.

What happens:

After a few seconds, a box appears with the message: "Settings is not
responding", and I have to Force Quit.

This happens only after the first time I run gnome-control-center and
make the connection.
