[Bug 522119] Re: kernel crashes when toggling off wlan on Eee PC 701SD
Im sorry, but I cannot test it anymore. I dont have the machine, I mailed it to the person I installed it for shortly after reporting the bug. If it comes back to me for updating at some point I can try Lucid Lynx on it from a USB stick and see if that fixes it. As it is the machine is on the other side of the country ;) Thank you. -- kernel crashes when toggling off wlan on Eee PC 701SD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 522119] [NEW] kernel crashes when toggling off wlan on Eee PC 701SD
Public bug reported: This bug affects at least Jaunty, Karmic and Lucid Lynx alpha 2 - I tested the behaviour on each with the latest kernels for the releases. I also tested its behaviour with EB4 that is based on Debian unstable, that kernel crashes as well. I suspect that Hardy is affected as well, because the owner of the laptop reported it hanging at times - Im supposing it happened after toggling the wlan off but am unable to confirm that. Hardware affected is an Eee PC 701SD, with Realtek RTL8187SE chipset. The wlan itself works, and I am able to turn the card on using the Fn-F2 hotkeys, but when turning wlan off it causes a kernel panic and hard locks the machine necessitating poweroff via holding the power key for 5 seconds. This happens both when Im connected to a wireless network as well as when I am not, and it happens every time wlan is toggled off. This machine is not my own and I need to send it back to the person I was upgrading it for, so I dont know how much additional information I can give later - I have the laptop for a couple more days tops. I think I will have to inform the owner about the problem and ask her not to use the wlan toggle key. My own Eee pcs, the regular 701 4GB model and 901 20GB model are not affected by this as they have a different wlan chipset, and after https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/404626 was fixed, they now work perfectly. From browsing forums I found out that other owners of this specific 701SD model also report that toggling wlan off causes a kernel crash every time, for example here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8819267#post8819267 others also tell of problems connecting to a WEP network - I have only used in WPA2 networks and there it worked, even though it sometimes drops the connection even when the laptop is right next to the router. I installed kernel-crashdump and caused the panic, I will attach the Apport-generated crashdump. I tried to do that via Apports automatic bug reporting as well, but Apport itself reported an error connecting to the bug server and crashed when it had sent about 98% of the kernel crashdump, so Im not going to try that again as it took about an hour for the slow lappie to process that in any case. The exact time of the crash was 21.00.54 on 14th of February. If you need additional information, please request it as soon as possible as I cannot keep the machine for much longer. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kernel crashes when toggling off wlan on Eee PC 701SD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 404626] Re: Turning wifi "off" using Fn+F2 on Eee PC with Ralink rt2860 results in kernel panic (rfkill)
Kernel 2.6.31-19, Eee PC 701SD with 8GB SSD, toggling wlan with Fn-F2 still causes a kernel panic. Vanilla Karmic. I just tried it now. I don't know if I have time for extensive troubleshooting, since this is not my own laptop, but I was supposed to upgrade it to Karmic and then mail it back ASAP. I did not remember that it had a different wireless card from my own 701 4GB and 901, which both now work fine, wlan toggle and all. So it is still NOT fixed for the 701SD with the RTL8187SE ,and the crash happens even when its not connected to any network when toggling, as well as when it is. Ill see if I need to mail the machine back today, or if I can keep it for a few more days to get more info (now I have just gotten a black screen whenever I toggle wlan off, have not yet tried to generate a crash report). -- Turning wifi "off" using Fn+F2 on Eee PC with Ralink rt2860 results in kernel panic (rfkill) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404626 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 489558] [NEW] Kernel panic occurs randomly under normal use on Eee pc 901, Ubuntu 9.10 fully patched
Public bug reported: About once to several times per day of normal use, my Eee pc 901 totally hangs ie. kernel panic. When this happens, I cannot even get into virtual terminals, system does not respond to SysRq magic keys either (ie, I cannot reboot with the SysRq keystrokes either). Only way to shut down is to hold down power button for several seconds. There is no way to reproduce the bug reliably - it happens both with Compiz on (with greater frequency perhaps, dont know) and without it. Usually I am browsing the web and maybe listening to music on Audacious as the machine hangs - screen freezes, X stops responding (cannot restart X either, SysRq keys dont respond), and sound loops and keeps looping until the powerdown. I have had similar crashes with Jaunty as well, and was told then to wait until Karmic for this to be probably fixed. It was then thought it might be something relating to the poor Intel video drivers under Jaunty. This happens completelly similarly under Karmic now. My Eee 701, on the other hand, works perfectly without such crashes. I will attach the logs on the following post. ** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kernel panic occurs randomly under normal use on Eee pc 901, Ubuntu 9.10 fully patched https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/489558 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 446146] Re: Several Huawei USB dongle don't work with kernel 2.6.31-12.40 (2.6.31.1 update related)
This really should have been fixed before release. Lots of people are having a difficult time because of this issue. Ive just been trying to tell, over IRC, how to get the kernel 2.6.31-15 installed when you have no network connection as the Huawei modem was the sole way to connect. Now she has it installed, Huawei e160 modem, but Network manager does not automatically see the modem, nor does it ask for the ISP info automatically. She tells me NM sees that there is some modem, but does not configure it correctly, nor does it bring up a connection. On Jaunty all this happened automatically. I have a e220, this had problems also - NM did not automatically configure it, I needed to add the connection manually, and even then it did not tell me I have a Huawei connected until AFTER I had configured the connection (entered the ISP info and so on), and after that I had to tell NM to Auto-connect or it would not connect. There is still something fishy going on. Im in a bit of a hurry now, Ill try to see about logs later. I cannot get to her logs, she lives across the country and has no net conn on the machine now (with the e160) -- Several Huawei USB dongle don't work with kernel 2.6.31-12.40 (2.6.31.1 update related) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/446146 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 404626] Re: Turning wifi "off" using Fn+F2 on Eee PC with Ralink rt2860 results in kernel panic (rfkill)
With the mainline 2.6.31-15 kernel someone provided above, switching wlan on and off no longer crashes the machine, BUT network manager does not see the wlan after turning it on again. I think this might be the same issue that in Jaunty needed the kernel boot option "options pciehp pciehp_force=1 pciehp_poll_mode=1" ? Could that be fixed as well, or do others get their network back up after re-enabling wlan radio? For me, network manager only reconnects after resume from suspend, but not after re-enabling wifi radio. Now if I only could get my Huawei modem to work as well ;) -- Turning wifi "off" using Fn+F2 on Eee PC with Ralink rt2860 results in kernel panic (rfkill) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404626 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 404626] Re: Turning wifi "off" using Fn+F2 on Eee PC with Ralink rt2860 results in kernel panic (rfkill)
My Eee 901 also periodically hangs when suspending, or resuming from suspend. Is this perhaps related? I took a picture of the screen the one time I was able to get into a terminal before it went completely unresponsive. Sadly the picture is out of focus so its hard to make out what it says. Last few lines are something about devkit-power and libgobject. Ill include the pic anyway. Other times the machine simply hangs, a few times Ive clicked Suspend, after which nothing at all happens and I cant open the shutdown menu anymore. Killing X at this point leads to hanging and only powerdown from powerbutton works. Other times again, wlan goes off, machine suspends, comes back from suspend fine and even wlan comes back up. I would really rather have the release set back and these issues fixed. I had serious issues with Jaunty as well, and after latest updates to Jaunty, my wlan stopped working completely in that as well - I can switch it on and off but network manager never registers it - which is why I bit the bullet and installed Karmic RC anyway. Which did not much improve the situation, sadly. At least suspend worked on Jaunty... Also, does the "feel free to run the 2.6.31.5 mainline kernel build: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.31.5/"; fix the suspend issue? Should I make another bug report of the suspend issue, or is there already one open? Is that going to be fixed? I will try that kernel anyway, cant hurt. Will report my experience back. Also, I agree with what Andrew Wyatt said above. I was waiting for Karmic to fix the Intel video driver bugs and the periodic hard locks I had with Jaunty, but instead now it is worse with Karmic - and Jaunty updates stopped wlan working as well. That it might work on some other netbooks is hardly comforting. I have been using Ubuntu since Warty, and have installed it for several other people. The bugs that are present in final releases has been the biggest complaint for several people - and personally, I feel that making Ubuntu more stable and bug free should be more important than keeping some release date. One person of these actually went and bought a Mac after some frustrating stability issues across 2 releases (Hardy and Intrepid). So please consider fixing these issues before release rather than after. ** Attachment added: "2.jpg" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34453038/2.jpg -- Turning wifi "off" using Fn+F2 on Eee PC with Ralink rt2860 results in kernel panic (rfkill) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404626 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Confirm on Eee pc 901 with Karmic Release Candidate. (Its been that way since Jaunty unless one installed some scripts to fix it, like Fewts addons for the Eee from Statux) See here for Statux's Fewts (angry) comments on this issue (he stopped maintaining the Eee pc addons due to this issue among others) - http://www.fewt.com/2009/10/i-give-up.html "Every time something in the OS changes, Eee PC Utils gets the blame for "breaking" people's computers even though whatever I release typically doesn't even alter the code being reported. Even though I've published work-around after work-around on the Wiki for Linux bugs like the famous bluetooth bug in 2.6.28, the WIFI hotplug bug (pciehp force), or linking to the fix for the Intel video driver bugs, its still considered my fault in the eyes of the users when the screen won't turn off and on (xrandr reports a protocol error that it didn't a few weeks ago) or their WIFI won't come on after they turn it off (because the kernel pciehp module is broken). Now that Karmic is coming Eee users are looking forward to having 2 Radio Kill devices for Bluetooth, and 2 for WIFI. Yes, this is in a production released kernel, yes, the interfaces are provided by different modules (eeepc-laptop exposes them as do the driver modules), yes their naming and function is of course not named using a reasonably grep-able syntax, and yes they do actually work differently somehow." (theres more but see the link, he complains a bit in addition to discussing the issue ;) ) Please, please fix this urgently! This is a real showstopper and it should not be too hard to fix. Most other things seemed to work ok on Karmic RC as of yesterday, but as long as there are bugs that cause my laptop to totally hang, I cannot upgrade to it. As is known, Jaunty also has its share of bugs on Eee pcs, so I would very much like to get an usable Ubuntu on it - I for one have been hopefully waiting for Karmic to finally work flawlessly on my Eees. I for one need to be able to switch off the wlan, since I also use a 3g modem where wlan is not available. OK.. I have now tried running apport, but so far it has not generated any reports, even thou X has crashed twice. First time hard lock, had to power down. Second time, dropped to login prompt again, but still no report.. Completely random still, like with Liam O'Reilly. I have found a few other people (on IRC) who have the same crash behaviour also on Eee pc 901, with the intel 945g chipset - one of these people used Debian (testing I think) instead of Ubuntu. They have had that present also at least during Jaunty cycle, I had these crashes happen also on Intrepid (reason I upgraded). I downloaded Karmic alpha 4, I will put it on a USB stick today and try it out. These are definitely a cause for a serious crash, these have happened always with Jaunty. The log entries always looked the same right before X goes. With vanilla Ubuntu, and not Xfce, this tends to cause a hard lock, ie. even Alt-SysRq-K does not work, but you need to hold the power button for 5 secs to hard shut down. -- [i945GME] drm:i915_getparam *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341363 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 337116] Re: [i945] xserver crashes at random on Asus eeepc 901, user returned to login screen
Okay, here is the kern.log from my latest crash. I havent had time to do backtrace or install it on this computer yet, Ill see if I can do that later. Could this bug at least be marked important? It is rather severe - X can fail at any arbitrary time, and its happened about a dozen times at least now. Disrupts workflow nastily :/ I included the time and date (european format) in the filename for easy finding. [Bug 337116] Re: xserver crashes at random on Asus eeepc 901, user returned to login screen
I can confirm this. Similar X crash has happened at least about ten times on my 901, running Ubuntu-Eee 8.04.1 with Array.org kernel. Does not matter if I run compiz or not. Usually I get back to login screen after the crash. A few times it has resulted in a total lockup, with sound repeating a short stutter as well - sometimes sound keeps playing normally but the whole machine freezes. Sometimes Ctrl-Alt-Sysctl-and commands to sync, unmount and boot do work, sometimes I need to hold the powerbutton to shutdown. Ive looked at logs and only thing I could find was a message from GDM about a generic X crash, no other info. I cant get the logs now, I will post them the day after tomorrow when Im home. At first I suspected Pulseaudio, but Ive now removed it, and the crashes have since happened without any audio apps open too. Usually like above - when I click on something or refresh a page or open a new one in Firefox or Opera. Doesnt matter if the page has Flash elements or not. Sometimes the crash happens after several hours, sometimes sooner. I spent quite a while looking for similar reports and seems that a few people have experienced this. Id also look into the video driver for possible causes - I read elsewhere that this same behaviour exists also with 8.10 and Ubuntu stock kernel, as well as Jaunty alphas. Kernel log had no entries at the time of the crashes. I have had a couple similar crashes with Eee 701, same software setup, as well, but I havent yet looked at the 701s logs. Ill try to get back to this soon and post any relevant logs. Do ask if theres anything more I can clarify. This is a pretty annoying issue :/ Thanks and regards. -- xserver crashes at random on Asus eeepc 901, user returned to login screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/337116 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 203537] Re: Hardy -- pm-suspend RUINS PARTITION TABLE
I made a separate bug report of this, since Im running 64 bit Hardy. The first description here tells almost exactly what happened to me yesterday. I am running Hardy alpha 5, updated to latest packages yesterday. I tried suspending, then woke ut up - keyboard and mouse didnt work, not even ctrl-alt-SysRq, so I was forced to do a hard reset. After this - GRUB error 17, corrupted ALL my partitions - root, home, storage.I booted with a live cd, and fsck`ed the partitions - my home folder is now vanished into tens of numbered files in lost+found, also lost some stuff from root. Can only log in as root in safe mode now. I havent yet been able to get to my logs there - may be I will have to reinstall, worst case scenario. If you have ideas about what logs would be useful, Ill try to get them. That machine is AMD 5000+ X2, 4 GB ram, Nvidia chipset on Asus mobo, Nvidia GT 8600 display, running kernel 2.6.24-14-rt, all packages up to date as of yesterday. -- Hardy -- pm-suspend RUINS PARTITION TABLE https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/203537 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 212171] [NEW] Returning from suspend doesnt work right in Hardy 64 bit, resulting in file system damage
Public bug reported: I tried suspending on Hardy 64 bit version, updated to latest packages yesterday - Installed from Hardy alpha 5. Running kernel 2.6.24-14-rt (realtime kernel, stock from repos) as of yesterday. Dont know what the relevant package is. After trying to return from suspend, the password prompt did come up - but keyboard or mouse did not work at all. I tried unplugging them and plugging them back in, no help. Even ctrl-alt-SysRq key combo did not work - no lights on keyboard or mouse either, like USB power wouldnt be coming to them. At this point, I didnt have an SSH server on the comp so I could have logged in and restarted, but I had to do a hard reset. This caused missing data on all my drives, including root and home - I got GRUB error 17 on next boot, had to boot with a live cd and repair root, home and storage partitions with fsck - after which I can now boot up, but cannot log in as any other user but root - the file system check moved all my home folders to lost+found as numbered files. Im still recovering from this disaster, and cant yet access all the files on that computer. Id rather not try to recreate this behaviour, for obvious reasons. I also noticed this seems to be a common problem, from googling around a little. Perhaps the suspend option should have a big red warning "does not work on many systems and may cause data corruption"? :) My machine is AMD 5000+ X2, with AM5 mobo with NVidia chipset. I have never before tried suspending - not on Gutsy either. 4 GB ram, Nvidia 8600 GT display. If you have ideas about what logs would be useful, please tell me and Ill try to get them out of that comp. I hope I dont need to reinstall - Im not sure about how many data blocks might have been moved to lost+found on root partition. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Returning from suspend doesnt work right in Hardy 64 bit, resulting in file system damage https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 139754] Re: [GUTSY] XMMS is missing the Flac plugin from repositories
I found another solution (the most obvious one lol)...Compile the XMMS plugin from source. You need to first install "xmms-dev" package from Gutsy repos, as well as the basic "flac" package. Then surf on to Flac homepage at http://flac.sourceforge.net/ and grab the source tarball (I suppose its best to have the same version as the installed Flac of Gutsy, I used the 1.2.1 version source). Extract it, open in terminal, run "./configure" and "make" after that. Then go to directory "flac-1.2.1/src/plugin_xmms/.libs" and copy the file "libxmms-flac.so" into XMMS's plugin folder (in your home folder, .xmms/plugins) and now you should have working FLAC in XMMS. -- [GUTSY] XMMS is missing the Flac plugin from repositories https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139754 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is as of today (25.3.) still broken in the way I described above, using two wired interfaces. Im running Feisty Herd 5 updated to all latest packages. Still am unable to configure 2 interfaces using the network manager, can only have one active interface at a time. -- network-manager in feisty is broken https://launchpad.net/bugs/82715 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 93381] Re: [Feisty] "Name" column width in nautilus
Also, Nautilus doesnt remember the widths of the columns if theyre changed. When you close and reopen Nautilus window, the columns revert to their original widths. Happens every time. -- [Feisty] "Name" column width in nautilus https://launchpad.net/bugs/93381 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 75237] Re: fails to connect in feisty, only one interface at a time works, other gets dropped
I also have broken network manager with only wired networks in use. I have two generic Ethernet cards that have always worked before, and which are guaranteed Linux-supported by manufacturers (from Hoary till Dapper have always worked). I installed Herd 5 yesterday and updated to latest packages. At first both network interfaces worked: Other one is assigned static IP for LAN (eth1), other is assigned IP by DHCP (eth0). A little while later I noticed that either one of the interfaces gets dropped, defaults to no IP assigned. If i go to network manager and reconfigure them, other one starts to work. Say I reconfigure eth0 with dhcp, it gets the IP and starts working, but AT THE SAME MOMENT, the other interface loses its IP. Happens every time, I can have only one interface active and with an IP. Repeated this process several times, always just one interface working at a time. I dont think this can be a hardware issue, since both interfaces DO work, just not at the same time. Tried rebooting also, doesnt affect it. Both interfaces work perfectly normally when theyre up, just not at the same time. -- fails to connect in feisty https://launchpad.net/bugs/75237 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 80847] Feisty herd 2 live cd installer crashes
Public bug reported: Trying to install from Live cd, installer starts fine, could select keyoboard and timezone. When installer should start the partitioner, it crashes. Screen is frozen and filled with corrupted graphics. System responds to ctrl-alt-bckspace or virtual terminal. Tried installer 3 times, this crash happened in the same way every time. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Feisty herd 2 live cd installer crashes https://launchpad.net/bugs/80847 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 80845] Feisty herd 2 text mode installer crashes
Public bug reported: When trying to install from text mode cd of Herd 2, installer crashes after "Detecting cdrom" is succesful (after selecting language etc) and installer should next start the partitioner. It also crashes the same way when i try to run "Verify disc": crashes after succesfully finding my cdrom drive. Burned and verified disc again to make sure its not about faulty media. Tried again 3 times, each time the crash occurred similarly. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Feisty herd 2 text mode installer crashes https://launchpad.net/bugs/80845 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 49819] Re: NFS and SMB transfers across LAN work very slowly
Now I also installed SSH server on both boxes, and tried moving files with both scp and the Nautilus interface. SSH transfers on LAN work at the same slow speed as SMB and NFS, so only HTTP protocol seems to utilize full ethernet speed. Im at a loss to explain what might cause it. Ive also disabled IPv6, no effect. Next im thinking of trying some other distribution on the other box to see if the problem persists when the other box runs something else than Dapper. -- NFS and SMB transfers across LAN work very slowly https://launchpad.net/bugs/49819 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 49819] Re: NFS and SMB transfers across LAN work very slowly
Today I reinstalled and reconfigured all Samba components (samba-common, samba, smbfs), and the problem persists still. Sometimes speed goes up to 3-5 megs one way, but still works slowly moving files the other way around (ie. when I move stuff from box 1 to box 2, its slow, but when moving files from box 2 to 1 it works faster. Both boxes are configured identically) -- NFS and SMB transfers across LAN work very slowly https://launchpad.net/bugs/49819 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 49819] NFS and SMB transfers across LAN work very slowly
Public bug reported: In Dapper final release, both SMB and NFS mounts accessed across LAN (100mbit ethernet) transfer data at about 1/10 rate of what it should be. Meaning a transfer rate of 300-700 kilos/sec, when it normally is closer to 10 megabytes. The problem is there with both Samba and NFS, first noticed it with Samba. This problem shows up in 3 different machines, 2 desktops, 1 old Thinkpad. All of these machines worked correctly when running under Hoary, but 2 of them also had this problem with SMB/Breezy packages. Also, the problem persists in file transfers between Win/Apple systems, which also worked fine previously. All 3 boxes are clean Dapper LTS installs. Verified that the hardware works: Transfers across LAN using HTTP protocol work at near the 100 mbps limit, around 9 megs/sec. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- NFS and SMB transfers across LAN work very slowly https://launchpad.net/bugs/49819 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
